Dear all,
I have a HP Proliant ML150 G6 that I use as a CAD workstation and I would like to upgrade the CPUs. The motherboard contains the Intel 5500 chipset that officially supports the Nehalem-EP Xeon CPUs. In the case with Intel Server Boards based on the 5500 chipset, a BIOS upgrade added support for the Westmere-EP Xeon CPUs. The latest BIOS update available from the HP support site (dating back to 2011) mentions the following:
"Added support for latest E5502, E5504, E5506, E5520, E5530 and E5550 Intel Xeon processors."
Which sounds a bit strange to be, because my machine already came equipped with a E5504 from factory. Besides that, according to the Intel website, the Xeon E5550 doesn't even exist. So my question is, has anybody tried Westmere-EP CPUs (Xeon E56xx, L56xx or X56xx) in their Proliant ML150 G6 and got it to work? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Dennis Huiberts
