I have a new Prolaint ML 350 Gen9 with 8 x 300 GB SAS HDD using the onboard Smart Array P440ar controller. It's more storage than we require (nice bonus) so I would like to take advantage of RAID 1+0.
Which would be better? Reliability, Redundancy, & Performance are my priorities.
Windows Server 2012 R2 will be on the system drive, and we'll be using two Hyper-V servers.
Option 1
8 x 300 in RAID 10 = 1200 GB, then use Windows Disk Management to partition into 300 & 900 GB drives.
Option 2
2 x 300 in RAID 1 = 300 GB
6 x 300 in RAID 10 = 900 GB
Any other suggestions?
Is the onboard RAID powerful enough for this? Our vendor said it was.
Thanks,
- Ken
