SAS Raid controller drive channels

Hi!

In regards to servers with the P440ar RAID controller (like DL380 Gen9), this RAID controller says it has dual channels.  It seems to be connected to the SFF 8-bay drive cage with drive slows 0-3 on one cable and 4-7 on another cable. 

Is there any advantage to putting some drives on one channel and some on the other from the same array?  Like if a I have a RAID 1, I could put a drive in bay 0 and bay 4 (versus putting them in bay 0 and bay 1).  Kinda like duplexing, but on a single controller.....
