Failed drive but only the volume shows errors

In my DL380 Gen9 with P440ar raid controller, one of the mirrors has failed.  The volume says it is queued for rebuilding, but the rebuild never starts.  The raid config utility says the drive is fine. There are no error lights on the drive, and activity seems to be occurring.

However, the other drive in the mirror is showing the 'do not remove' light, implying the mirror is broken and only it is operating.

I ran dignostics, and they say

Internal Storage Enclosure Device Failure (Bay 3, Box 3, Port 1I, Slot 0)

Device, Test: Logical Drive 1, Storage Controller in Slot 0 Failed Count: 1 Error Code: F154
Description:
The monitor and performance logs indicate an aborted command failure.
Count: 1
Recommended Repair:
If single drive has ABORTED Command - Re-Seat and monitor. If all drives, then check backplane or cable or Controller.
Device, Test: Logical Drive 1, Storage Controller in Slot 0 Failed Count: 1 Error Code: F297
Description:
Logical Drive status is outside of normal operating parameters.

Recommended Repair:
Refer to the HP Smart Array Controller User Guide for a detailed description of the logical drive state and troubleshooting procedures. The User Guide is available from hp.com.

Last Failure Reason ABORTED COMMAND

Write Errors Retry Recovered 1

Aborted Command Failures 1

So my main question is, how come with all these drive errors, the raid config utility says it's ok, and there are no error lights on the drive?

Secondly, is the best course of action just to replace the drive with a spare and hope it rebuilds ?

Thanks
