Update drive firmware outside Proliant?

I've adopted a retired, HP-branded 3.5" SAS Drive (DF300A4950, Hitachi made) for desktop use. I know this is a long shot, but... is there a way to update the drive's firmware from its present revision (HPD3) to current (HPD7) outside of a ProLiant environment?

I've already tried Micro-Magic's SCSI Mechanic without success. No damage, it just didn't work.
