Came here to ask the experts. I a running an issue setting up nested ESXi inside ESXI server. My Processor does not support Intel VT-x/EPT. Is there anything I can do to tweak this, maybe with new drivers?

My server is running an Intel Xeon Processor E5540. HP Proliant DL380 G6 2x Xeon Quad-Core 2.53GHz
Bios settings

I have following problem: I have installed System Management Homepage and WBEM Providers to monitor my hardware on HP Proliant DL360 G9 (Windows Server 2012 R2) but in "Storage" tab there is no information about physical drives, logical drives and storage box. There are only blue question mark icons. All firmware updates and drivers are up to date. Could you help me with this problem?

Proliant Drive Storage requirements help needed

Hi all,

Can someone advise me on the components required to get 20 drives operational in a DL380G9 server.

Spec I have identified at the moment:

1 x Proliant DL380 G9 Server (752689-B21)

1 x Smart Array controller P440ar/2GB with FBWC (Comes with the base server above)

Additional items to order

20 x 300GB 12G SAS 15K SFF drives (759208-B21)

1 x 12Gb SAS Expander with cables (727250-B21)

2 x DL380 G9 8SFF Bay2 cage/backplane kit (768857-B21)

My Question.

The server comes with both a Media cage and 8SFF Drive cage Kit, I need 3 8SFF cages to house 20 drives.

Can I simply remove the media cage, fit two additional 8SFF drive cages with the SAS Expander to be able to install the  20 x SFF drives? or would I need anything else to make this possible?

HP Proliant DL380 and DL580 G5 RAM Upgrade

Hi

We want to upgrade our HP Proliant DL380 and DL580 G5 server memoy. I found 2 conflicting specs as below,

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01673345

http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c04282492

First one says max. RAM capacity is 32 GB (8 X 4GB) and second spec says 64 GB (8 X 8GB). We wan to be sure as 8 GB DDR2 cards are quite expensive. Can you please let us know which spec to follow. It would be better if you can give details of RAM cards to upgrade to the max. capacity for both HP Proliant DL380 and DL580 G5 servers.

Thanks,

DL380 G7 - Can't add second CPU

I have a DL380 G7 server with 1 E5620 processor.  When I try to add another E5620, when I power up the server, all the fans turns but the server won't boot.

I have tried both CPU in socket 1 and they are both the same and working.

No bend pins in socket 2....

iLO 4 issues

In my Lastest batch of DL360 Gen8 sand DL380 Gen8 servers (order of about 40 systems), A little over 25% of them are having iLO issues.

Wondering is anyone has seen any similar isues or has Ideas on what to try next?

Here is what I see:

* the URL to the ilo (https://...) shows the "ILO 4 HP Prolaiant" but never show the "iLO hostname", eventaully I see "Connection with iLO cannot be established. If you recently made changes to the network configurations, you may need to refresh this page to re-negotiate an SSL connection" right below the login button

* Once a system gets in the mode, it never recovers.
we can DRAIN the power, the ilo works for a few minutes (10 to 30).
we see errors the event log server "iLO watchdog reset" messages
HP tech support had us downgrade the ilo firmware 2.00, also tried version 2.02 amd 2.03 no effect.

* Also after a recent system board resplace a DL360 started doing the same thing.
these systems are on a deldicate LOM network.
on the network I have 562 ILOs, 728 iDracs and 9 Sun iLOMs.
I only see the issue on new HP systems or HP system with recently replaced system boards

Mixing different memory modules in DL 385 G7

Hi,

I'd like to know if I can reuse the spare memory module from HP Proliant Blade (BL 465c G7) server into the HP Proliant DL 385 G7 server (573087 -371) ?

Current Memory Module that is used on DL 385 G7:

DIMM Description: DIMM 2GB PC3-10600R 128Mx8 RoHS

Additional DIMM Description: HP 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600R-9 Kit

Spare Part Number: 595094-001

Spare Memory Module: 4 GB 1 Rx4 PC3 10600R

HP P/N: 591750-171

From this page: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02188036 it is listed there but not sure if I can mix the spare 4 GB module above into the existing running HP Proliant DL 385 G7.

So is that possible to mix the spare 4 GB into the empty RAM slots while the existing one already running with 2 GB RAM module with different product Number ?

Thanks.

Folks,

Can anyone here please suggest me what is happening with the server which sends multiple daily email like below:

Description:

A 'Host Health status change' trap indicates that health status has changed.

Details:

Change in health status 'DEGRADED'

but when I check the hardware status from the SMH, all is good no problem is detected.

The Source from the SMH data provider is using WBEM not SNMP.

Why do i get that email freqently on daily basis ?

SmartArray 410 reporting only 1.5GBPS

I have two DL180's with the exact same hardware specs but only one reports a speed of 3.0GBPS under hpacucli. The other reports 1.5BGBPS and the only discernible difference appears to be the port used on the SmartArray 410 controller. Does plugging the drives into port 1 limit the speed of the SATA2 drives to only 1.5GBPS or is there some sort of configuration setting that I'm missing?

Hello

We replaced a P400 card in a DL 320s G1 with a Smart Array P800 inorder to expand storage with a MSA 70.

When I access the ACU utility  the following error appears :

I've attached the full diag report.

We purchased this controller from ebay so it might be defective, before I purchsae a new one I'd like to know if the cache module is realy defective and can it be replaced ?

I have not removed the card from the server yet and when we installed it I did not recall seeing any removal parts other than the two battery modules.

Thank you for thoughts

How to remove a failed spare from an array?

$
0
0

Proliant ML350 G5, Smart Array E200i.

A spare drive failed, and was replaced with another drive that turned out to be smaller than the original. The status of the physical drive is now as follows:

Status: Failed
Last Failure Reason: Hot plug replacement too small

Since I don't have a big enough drive to replace with, I thought I would just remove the spare from the array all together. This showed to be difficult:

#hpssacli ctrl slot=0 array A remove spares=all

Error: This operation is not supported with the current configuration. Use the
"show" command on devices to show additional details about the
configuration.
Reason: Assignable spares not available

So it boils down to "How to remove a failed spare from an array?".

Create bootable HP USB Key for update RAID Controller Firmware

Hi,

I have many new servers have problem with NMI error on Storage controller and require to install update firmware v1.34 (B)(11 Dec 2014) by offline update because my new servers did not have OS installed yet.

In order to do this, I want to create small bootable (64MB) HP USB Key for bulk scripting virtual media.

I have only 32GB USB flash disk, but it is seems too big for me for create USB image file and mount over WAN link.

Does anyone have solution to quickly create HP USB Key without have a physical USB flash disks?

Many Thanks in Advance,

Jobbo

m400 test system?

$

The m400 catridges contain ARMv8 processors meant for operation within a dense cluster of such in a Moonshot chassis.

My team is porting our data pipeline to run on the ARMv8 ISA and we'd like to get performance and power number on real world hardware before purchassing an entire chassis worth.

The m400's appear to have onboard memory, power, NIC, cooling, and a PCIe interface.  Is it possible to plug these into a generic motherboard PCIe slot for testing purposes? (Like you'd plug in a GPU or Xeon Phi)

 - Do the drivers for such exist?

 - Can you link more than one cartridge via the 10Gbe interconnect?

 - What other interconnects/interfaces do you loose - within the Moonshot what is the back plane supplying via the PCIe?

DL320 G6 enable Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller AFTER the OS is installed?

Hi,

I have a server - DL320 G6 -with 2 hard drives.  Disk 0 is unallocated and Disk 1 has the OS (Windows Server 2008) AND it's been partitioned into two logical drives.  Looking at the server specs, it's 'supposed' to have a Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller.  I have not checked yet, it's the phone server so will schedule an after hours.  my question is can I enable the controller and configure the RAID without hosing the OS?

Thanks much,

D

Should I just give up on these DL165 G7 ilo100's?

$

I've inherited a farm of DL165 G7's, some have been waiting on their "ilo100" board installation since they were installed. As for the ones that have a ilo100 installed, the ilo100 seems totally useless: I can't get the java virtual KVM console to work with modern browsers and JREs, and the SMASH console (via ssh, "/system1/console1 start") isn't working either.

So it makes no sense to schedule downtime for the remaining ilo100 installs if it isn't going to get me a console.

I have just a few questions before I give up: The ilo's have the "LO100 Advanced INDIVIDUAL" license installed. Is there a license I can get that will enable at least the SMASH ssh console?

Is there some OS configuration I need to do, like start a getty on some port that is somehow mapped to the SMASH console?

Thanks -w

  • i did a health and maintenance test , checked the disks from CLI , nothing there is no error whatsoever .
  • the servers has windows server 2008 R2 , they are idle all the time ( they did not join my live environment yet ).
  • everything from driver to firmware has been updated to the max , proliant service pack , everything .
  • i made sure the disks ( sff in an LFF case ) are well seated , my raid card has no issue or problem , both 460 watt PSU is connected to a 40 KVA UPS .
  • if i awake the server , the ticking sometimes stops

is this ticking noise normal ? and if not what should i check ?

Non-stop disk activity and Smart Array P222 controller in HP Proliant Gen 8 DL 320e Gen8 Server

Hi,

We boughta server"HPProLiantDL320e Gen8 V2" with 2hard drives. We also boughta card"DynamicHP Smart ArrayP222Controler(512MB, v6.00) 1logicaldrive"to make thesedrives in RAID-1. We currently have aproblem with theRAIDconfiguration.

- Before installing the card, the disks are working correctly, but after installing this RAID card, hard drives LEDs do not stop rotating (green), indicating a non-stop disk activity (see picture 1).

HP Proliant DL320e Gen8 v2 Server.png

- In BIOS, the card is detected (see figure 2 below)

HP Smart Array in BIOS.png

- But we can not activate it. It offers no submenu to set it to "Enable" (see figure 3 below).

Enable HP Smart Array in BIOS.png

- We thought that perhaps it might be necessary to update the firmware of the server and the controller board. When I put the firmware update using "Intelligent Provisioning", the latter returned directly to its start page without installing the firmware software it has downloaded. It does not propose to click on the "install" button (see figure 4 below)

For information, the software"IntelligentProvisioning" shows that the RAIDis installedand configured (see figure 5 bellow and attached).
