Samsung PM1725 in DL380 G7

Hi Everyone

I was hoping somebody could tell me if a Samsung PM1725 6.4TB SSD TLC PCI-Express Gen 3.0 x8 NVMe PCIe Solid State Drive was a viable option for a DL380 Gen7 Server. We have one working in a Gen10 but thought I should ask before purchasing one for the older server.

Thanks in advance.

DL380 gen 7 memory

While increasing the memory of the DL380 gen7 server, I checked that each server has supported memory.
However, since all the purchased memories are discontinued, the memory not on the list operates, so the same installation operates the same memory, the same installation has the same memory check LED, and a strong beep continues.

What could be the reason??
I will attach pictures of old and new memories.

We have Samasung Evo 970 plus 1 TB NVMe on these servers.

But read/write speed max is 950MB!
If we install windows/vmware/centos on this servers this drive speed is 3500MB.

Can you help us for resolve this problem?

ML30 - ILO on 1GB port

Hi,

Is it ok if I use a 1GB port as an ILO port for ILO Standard?

I know the dedicated ILO port is best practice, but in theory, what would prevent to use one ethernet port?

P440ar Array Controller Gen9 problem with different sets of harddrives

Hello community,

I have a strange problem for which I seek advice. The system is a DL380 Gen9 (SFF version) with a Smart Array P440ar controller (+ battery) which shows an odd error message depending on the set of harddisks configured. All updates to firmware components are installed (e.g., System ROM 2.80, Smart Array Controller 7.0, HP Intelligent Provisioning 2.82).

What happened? Initially, I configured 2x 300GB HPE SAS harddisks in a RAID-1 (Bay 1+2) and another 300GB HPE SAS harddisk as auto-replacing hot spare in HPSSA (Bay 3). After the reboot, I installed Debian which was incredibly slow. After the reboot, I already received a warning message "1716-Slot 0 Drive Array: Unrecoverable media errors detected on drives during previous rebuild or background surface analysis (ARM) scan. Errors will be fixed automatically when the sector(s) are overwritten. Backup and restore are recommended" at boot-up or "966 Logical Drive 1: Unrecoverable media errors detected on drives during previous rebuild or background surface analysis (ARM) scan. Errors will be fixed automatically when the sector(s) are overwritten. Backup and restore are recommended" at HPSSA. The system information for storage in ILO showed "Controller status: failed". I found somewhere the recommendation to erase all disks with zeroes. After about 2 hours with essentially no progress (i.e., 2% completion) in HPSSA, I stopped the process.

I removed the array in HPSSA and also removed the third hard disk. I created a new RAID-1 with just two of the three harddisks (so no hot-spare in HPSSA) and all went fine. The Debian installation was super fast and I repeated the Debian installation successfully (i.e., also super fast) for the other two RAID-1 harddisk combinations of 300GB HPE SAS disks. As soon as any 300GB HPE SAS hot-spare was additionally configured in HPSSA, the problem occurred again.

Finally, I removed all 300GB HPE SAS harddisks and repeated the installation with 2x 900 GB NON-HPE SAS harddisks. All was fine again (almost as expected), but now the third 900 GB NON-HPE SAS harddisks was also successfully configured as hot-spare harddisk and the system remains to be super fast. I repeated the configuration with a different order of 900 GB NON-HPE SAS harddisks to see whether it might simply be a faulty Bay 3 - but no, it works also well. Several removals of 900 GB NON-HPE SAS harddisks in different Bays and subsequent rebuilds (after plugging them in again) work fine and the systems remains fast. No error messages anywhere.

Does anybody have a clue how to identify the root cause of the RAID errors related to the 3x 300 GB HPE SAS harddisks with hot-spare configuration? Why does any combination of just two of the three 300 GB HPE SAS harddisks work just fine but as soon as any hot-spare device is added, the raid-harddisk combination seems to break.

Thanks and best regards,

Max

P408i-a SR Gen10 configure HBA mode?

Hi folks,

i got a DL360 server with HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 installed on it.

my target is to put the server's HDDs and SDDs under HBA mode(not RAID, just present to OS directly) so that the VMware ESXi and VSAN can use it without issues.

note that the server is new and i just installed to the rack and all the settings (including controller)are default.

i did some googling and found this: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00019059en_us

it mentioned that "Any drive that is not a member of a logical drive or assigned as a spare is presented to the operating system. This modeoccurs by default without any user intervention and cannot be disabled. Logical drives are also presented to the operatingsystem."

so, is my question solved if the controller stays in "mix mode" while all the disks are new without any configuration?

i'm not familiar with hpe storage controller,if anyone can help clarify this please.

thanks in advance!!

Can't access PXE settings for Flexfabric 554FLB

I'm trying to turn PXE on for a Flexfabric 554FLB in a blade server.

During POST I can see the option to hit Ctrl-P for the utility. I do this, it accepts the command, and tells me it will load after BIOS initilization. But it never does. Just drops straight into the boot menu, and the only option is to load RBSU or reboot.

Any tips for this?

Thanks

DL 140 G3 Windows 10 install

Hello,

I'm trying to perform a bare metal Windows 10 install on a DL 140 G3, but every time at around 30% it locks up. I even tried installing Windows 7, activating, and then installing all updates and tried an upgrade. Same issue occures at 30%. Must be a driver issue. Has anyone else been able to install Windows 10 on a DL 140 platform, or am I the only one that has even tried.

Thank you
John

HPE DL60 Gen9: is my mainboard faulty? No PCI devices detected.

Hi, I have just bought a HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 530SFP+ for my DL60 G9.

On The ILO > System Information > Device Inventory, the NIC Card is in UNKNOWN status and UNKNOWN location.

The card does not appears in ILO > System Information > NIC Information.

My ESXi 7.0 doesn't list the NIC card on the hardware list.

I plugged the card in the PCIe Gen3 x16 slot (low profile).

On the NIC board, there is 3 orange led light:

  • when I plug a Juniper 10GB SR SFP+ on port 1, the D1401 orange light shut down.
  • when I plug a Juniper 10GB SR SFP+ on port 2, the D1402 orange light shut down.
  • there is still a little orange light on board (D1404). Does it means there is a problem with the card?

Do I need the plug the NIC card on another PCIe (a 8x PCIe instead) ?

Thks for your help.

Proliant Gen10 network loss on SPP update

$

I was attempting to update my Proliant Gen 10 with the latest SPP (09.2020) and during the process lost network connectivity.  The update had not started yet, it was just doing inventory.  I ended up having to reset as even via ILO, though I could get the screen to come up, I couldn't get the keyboard to work.

I've only done 2 prior SPP updates.  It seems like in those cases, there was network loss, but only briefly.  I'm kind of concerned to try this (especially remotely) if it's going to lose network.  Any suggestions?

ProLiant ML350p Gen8 - System Fans constantly stepping up to 100%

This school's ProLiant ML350p Gen8 Server, has been a godsend for some years, and now recently, over the last 6 months has changed to deafening anyone nearby with jet engine sound effects as the fans ramp up to 100%
iLo shows absolutely no issues, and everything A-OK ... including temperatures which for everything are nowhere near 'Caution' temps}
The server lives in a small Air Conditioned room at a sustained low temperature also.
Ive updated everything i could think of and performed a physical examination inside the server case, and can see nothing that may be causing said issue...
If i reset iLo (under diagnostics) the fans return to nearer their normal speed around 10% ... however this progressively steps up 1% at a time to around 30% and from there steps up in 4% speed intervals ... ultimately resulting in a deafening 100% fan speed on all 3 internal fans..
So loud that its disrupting teaching in the IT suite that the server room is within etc.
Any advice or support would be welcomed.

HP Proliant DL380 Gen9 OS (RHEL 7.9) Installation Issue

Hi Everyone,
As stated in the subject I am having issue while installing OS. The issue is. There was already an OS (RHEL 6.8) was running on the server. I wanted to re install the OS. For that, I rebooted the server and entered to Smart Storage Administrator. From there I deleted the existing logical drive and created a new array. After that when I rebooted the Server to install the OS ( via bootable USB having Rhel 7.9 media).
I got the first screen where is says:

Install the Red Hat Entripise Linux 7.9

When I hit enter it then moved to the next screen, then I recived these errors:

  • the BIOS has corrupted hw-pmu resources
  • No caching mode page found
  • Assuming drive cache write through

then a loop of this error:

  • dracut-initqueue{1072}: Warning dracut initqueue timeout - starting timeout scripts

after this error loop it then displayed,

  • Could not boot.
  • /dev/root does not exist
  • Starting Dracut Emergency Shell...

This is the state my server is currenty in. Could anyone of you get me out of this? please I have been stuck here from many hours..!
Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Shozib

DL380 Gen 10 swap LFF Drive cage for SFF

I have a DL380 Gen 10 which was ordered incorrectly (P19717-B21).  It should have one 826690-B21 Gen10 Premium 6 SFF SAS/SATA + 2 NVMe or 8 SFF SAS/SATA Bay Kit but it arrived with the 8 LFF.  Can I order the parts and swap this out?  It looks like I need the part with the Power On/Standby button, Health DED, iLO Front Service Port and the USB 3.0 that goes on the right side.  The 8LFF model has a different type of this module which is on the top.  I also need what ever HPE DL380 Gen 10 6+2 NVME FIO Option provides.  Can this be done and can someone guide me?  Thank you very much!Need to convert the 8LFF to this SFFNeed to convert the 8LFF to this SFF8LFF8LFF
