Monitoring 6i controller in SLES 11

Hi all:  I am looking for a way to monitor the hard drives in al old DL385 G1 server with a Smart Array 6i controller.  I had to upgrade one of our old servers to SLES11 SP2 which broke HD monitoring.  The HP tools look for kernel version 2.6.32 or lower while SLES 11 is using the 3.0 kernel (renamed 2.6.x).

Are there any third-party solutions?  All I need to know is when a HD fails.

Thanks, Chris.

Where do I find the latest Offline Diagnostics ISO?

I have a DL360 G7 running Windows 2008 R2 that starting rebooting randomly on it's own 4-5 times a day about two weeks ago.  No hardware or software errors are recorded, no amber error indicators on the server front panel.  I seem to recall back in the day you could boot a ProLiant server to some sort of utility to run continual tests on RAM, Processors, etc.  All I find now is a  "online Diagnostics tool" that does none of this....I think it scans power supplies and disks.

I found something called Offline Diagnostics, but it is from 2009 - I can't find anything newer.

Since I am guy that spends most of his life with virtual machines now days and has not had to deal with a physical server problem is years, could someone point to what the cool kids use in 2014 to diagnose HP hardware problems?

Thanks.

Install ACU on Hyper-V Server 2012

We have a DL380p Gen8 running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and initially only setup a single logical drive from the ACU in the BIOS.

I'd like to create some more drives now (from a remote location) but can't find any documentation on how to install the CLI version of the ACU on the Hyper-V Server.

We used the Intelligent Provisioning to setup the OS in the first place so it might have installed the aCU CLI already?

Anyone got any thoughts?

Cheers for now

Drive Replacement Procedure

Hello to all,

I'm replacing a drive on a Proliant ML570 with a SMART-431 Controller. There are two drives arrayed as a mirror set. One drive failed. The Net Adman is off site and has instructed me to power the machine down before inserting the replacement drive. I've already pulled the failed drive out to get the replacement part # while the server was still running.

I thought the point of hot plug gable drives was to avoid the need to power down. I'll do as I'm told, but wouldn't I be safe to plug the drive in while the server is running? Then wouldn't the controller rebuild the array, while the server continues to be in production? Please tell if I do not understand the concept. I don't mind working off hours, but would rather do so only when it is truly necessary.

I'm also concerned that replacing the drive while powered down might lead to the server not booting to the so until the array is rebuild (more hours away from home for me). Perhaps there is some cautionary reason of which I am unaware. Backups are up to date and not an issue of concern.

Thanks, Skip

The current server configurating include a P410i/1GB Flash Backed raid controller.

The question is:

Do you know if the new raid controller will improve the performance?

Thanks in advanced.

Can the HP 649281-B21 adapter (InfiniBand/Ethernet) be used as a regular Ethernet card for iSCSI connectivity?

I'd like to use the above HP adapter as a regular Ethernet card to connect to the array over iSCSI.

Good afternoon all,

I have an ML330 G6 which I am adding a second drive bay to. Because the kit is apparently no longer available I have had to buy the individual parts. The only ones I am missing now are the 4 shoulder screws for fixing the cage to the chassis. Is anyone able to supply the part number for these?

Thanks

ML350e G8 v2 vs ML350p G8

Is there anything specific about the ML350e G8 v2 that is not available in the ML350p G8 that would make me want to go with the ML350e G8 v2?

I could go with either chassis but there are some attractive smartbuys with the ML350p G8, but I'm not sure if the fact that it's not a "v2" would be a downside for some reason.

System Managment Homepage 7.3 and Windows Server 2003

Has anyone else noticed that the last version of the System Management Homepage to work on Windows Server 2003 operating systems is 7.2.2.9?  The 7.3 releases say they apply to Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 x64 and the install completes sucessfully but the page does not load (Tested version 7.3.0.9, 7.3.1.4 and 7.3.2.1).  Not a big deal since we only have a few Windows 2003 servers left but I can't add the new versions to our Version Control Repository since the latest version does not work across the board.  Just trying to find out if HP actually tests these before releasing.

Proliant DL360 G5 Power Supply - Home Use

$

Hi,

I purchased a used DL 360 G5 server and I wondered whether I can plug it to my home power supply which is 110Volts.

It says the

INPUT 100-127V~/9.0Amps

             200-240V~/4.5Amps

50-60Hz

I only have used this at Datacenters and I know there it is all 200-240V and I did not have to worry about it. But, kind of worried to connect it at home and not wanting to blow up something. Appreciate your response. Thank you.

Help with Smart Array P410 specs and update?

$

Hi,

I've got a Proliant Dl160 G6 with a Smart Array P410 controller.

I'm wondering, and haven't found clear information online:

1) How do I find the current firmware version of this controller, and how do I update it if needed?

I see these options:

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=4017895&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3DswEnvOID%253D4103%257CswLang%253D%257Caction%253DlistDriver&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken#Firmware - Storage Controller

But am not sure if the only one that applies to me is the 5.14 1/16/2012 update.

2) What's the max capacity of the controller per drive? From an older spec sheet it looks like 3TB, but I'm hoping with new firware or otherwise I could use 4TB drives.

Below is output from 'lspci -vvv' regarding the controller. Thanks for any help!

P410 RAID Controller Installation - Configuration on Proliant DL 160 G6

$

I have just recently installed a P410 Raid Controller in a HP Proliant DL 160 G6 so that I can run it with ESXi.  As I found out the hard way a physical RAID controller is required in order to run ESXi.  I have hot-plug SATA drives and to my knowledge I have installed the card correctly.  Pictures attached.

However, when I boot up the server it is not seeing the P410 controller.  And I can see that it still tries to go the Smart Array B110i controller (which of course does not work).  What do I need to do to make the server use the P410?

I have searched the ROM System Setup Utility and I cannot see anything that does this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
