We would like to use performance counter on our new cluster consisting of SL2x170 nodes with Westmere processors. Patching the official RHEL 5.5 kernel (based on 2.6.18) with the performance counter patch
does not work, since there is not enough Westmere support in this old Linux kernel. I know I can get it working with a new 2.6.35.x kernel, but others here have questions about "HP supported" kernels. As far as I can tell, HP only certifies Linux distributions for their platforms and not specific kernels. Please confirm this. If there is a recommended recent kernel with config file for the SL2x170 servers, please let me know.
Thanks,
JL
