I have two ProLiant DL180 G6 that I am trying to upgrade from Windows 2008 R2 SP1 to Windows 2012 R2. I was successfully able to install it on one server, but on the other server, Windows 2012 did not install. The upgrade fails towards the end of the process. It does the usual prep work, copies files etc. successfully. It gets stuck at the Windows logo and rotating dots appear.
I understand that this server is not supported with Windows 2012 R2 from HP, but I am willing to go unsupported if I can get Windows 2012 on it.
Server Details:
ProLiant DL180 G6
BIOS Version/Date = HP O20, 7/1/2013
The only difference between the two servers are the processor.
Successful upgrade
Processor = Intel Xeon CPU E5606
Failed Upgrade
Processor = Intel Xeon CPU E5504
Any idea why this would occur? I have tried to disable the embedded Nics and install the OS through ILO, but it still fails.
