Hello,
We have the mL350 gen9 wiht P440ar on board controller (instead of the PCI-card version P440, P440ar = standard configuration in order to save an PCI slot). In a lot of documentation we read that it can be expanded with the SAS expander kit for ml350 gen9 769635-b21.
Then it should be possible to connect instead of 1 drivecage with 2 mini-sas cables, 3 drivecages with each 2 mini-sas cables to the SAS expander. The sas expander then should be connected via 2 mini-sas cables with the p440ar. By the way, in the manual for the SAS expander is mentioned that the kit does noet support the P440ar (but why, because of the fact that the right cables are not included or not supported hardware?)
In the kit there are 3 cable sets for the 3 drivecages, but not for the connection between the P440ar controller and the SAS expander. The original mini-sas cables from the P440ar to the original first drive cage are to short.
In some documentation i read that this kit doen not support the P440ar.
The question is: does it not support this because:
- the fitting cables are not included? (but with other cables this should work)
or
- this combination P440ar and SAS Expander is not supported by HP, no matter what cables are used
There is documentation where the SAS expander is shown connected to the P440ar and 3 drive cages in an ML350 gen9, so one would think it must be possible. It is however not supported by the kit, as stated in some documentation?
So is it a cable thing, or a harware incompatibility thing?
Thanks ahead, it is driving me nuts. HP US and NL do not have the answer. Our wholesale channels cannot answer this either. We don't want to assemble a config that is not supported.

added: file for dl380 with the option i want to use for the ml350 gen9
added: THIS SHOWS IT SHOULD WORK FOR DL380G9 ON PAGE 6 (THE ML350 IS NOT MENTIONED)
