Updating Power Managment ROM firmware?

$

Hello,

I am trying to update the Power Management firmware on my HP DL380 G5 Server. I have the IrisDL380G5Rev3.4.hex file but cannot seem to figure out how to update it. I have Ubuntu 12.04 running on the server and there are no HP programs for updating the firmware on Ubuntu like there is for Windows Server. So I did the same as I did for ILo2 update and downloaded the windows tool and extracted the .bin file and updated through the web interface, is there a simliar system in place for updating the Power Managment firmware?

Thanks in advance,

Ewan

Gen9 version control agent

The server is  a DL380 Gen9 with Windows Server 2012 R2 installed. I know we don't have to use the Windows agents but we have. Firstly on the HP support website the version control agent isn't even available to download when you select this hardware and OS. Is it not supported?

I've installed the latest Windows x64 VCA version 7.3.3.0, presumign it is supported. It is not showing the ROM version for the array controller P440ar. Strange it isn't being picked up by the VCA, looks like a bug to me.

Lastly the main system ROM displays differently now. Installed version displays as '2014.07.11' and the latest version displays as '1.21 11-03-2014'. The human eye can see that it is not up to date but appears to confuse the green tick indicator which is telling me otherwise, again looks like a bug in the VCA. Is  a new version about to be released?

Fan or inlet ambient sensor detect failed and prepare to shutdown ml150g6

Hi, well just got back from Xmas holidays to find server in office not running. Server in Question is ML150g6 with 2 CPU and 24GB of ram. Unit was running great up until last Thursday, however when I boot I get msg “Fan or inlet ambient sensor detect failed and prepare to shutdown”. I have checked all fans, they appear to be running, checked all cables, reseated them, have blown out server to remove dust and beastie’s and still I get this error. I have searched web and do not find much about this issue, except advice on ensuring you have correct fans etc, which I do. Could this be somehow a firmware issue? Any help would be most appreciated.

Being a bit of a fiddler I have put a new ML310e gen8 v2 into rbsu ( command line interface to ?BIOS / UFEI?).

i have changed the controller to ACHI interface but want to really use the B120 controller to control the storage.

Also change to the command line for the bios and just can not do aythning from this command line.

I had previously used a hp ml115 G5 which had a bios like a standard  PC like i've used for years (been building and running PC's since DOS 3 / 5   &  windows 3.11.

Bought this between xmas and new year to replace the ML115. Starting to wish I had not.

Any Help please

HP memory “Special Descriptor codes”,...... Is there a code index?

$

G-day HP forum I’m a bit of an amateur doing weekend referb & updating appropriate HP MLxx G6 for Physical to Virtual (P2V) to capture servers running 2003 R2 32-bit. HP have been very helpful with recommended updates and so on but of course this also involves hardware upgrades freeing up processor cores and memory allocation.

Installation of WIN 2012 r2 is not a problem, it’s the increased memory and there configuration that I am finding a steep learning curve.

I’m doing upgrades as a cheap alternative for blue collar area owner operator’s that need a way to maintain their connection to their invoicing and tendering via RDS.

Parts are drying up in Australia, especially with the RAM upgrades.

Question: Special Descriptor codes?

I see memory cards come up for sale from time to time with an un-familiar descriptor code; the one directly following he CAS Latency number.

Is there a HP Rosetta Stone that we use to translate it to what protocol it is applicable to?

I will be thankful for any help.

Kind regards

Docta

DL580 G2 CPU Support

Hi there,

We've come across a DL580 G2 in our stock and it's loaded with 4x 2GHz Xeon Processors. We might want to try and extend the life of this product so is it possible to use Generic Xeon CPU's or do we have to use special HP ones?

Cheers!

Mike.

HP DL380 Gen 9 + P840 Cache disabled

Hi,

I have bought a couple of HP Proliant DL380 Gen9 with P840 Smart Array Controler (SKU 752688-B21). Both are working fine but have a problem with the cache module.

In ILO System information, Status for storage is "Degraded"

Cache Module Status is Failed

HP SSA reports shows : the cache is permanently disabled.

Cache status : ATTR_VALUE_CACHE_STATE_DISABLED_CABLE_ERROR

Active Health log shows :

Drive Array Cache Module Battery Failure (Chassis 2, Bus Unknown, Slot 2)

However battery is fine. It was included in the server

The controller is fine also, it has been already replaced on one of the machines.

It looks like my P840 cannot find the battery. On Dl380 Gen9 the battery is connected to the motherboard, not to the controler

Seagate 600 Pro SSD Gen8 Server DL320e V2

So,

I installed an HP Seagate 600 Pro SSD into a DL320e V2 server, and it is not reporting the temperature from the SSD so the fans run on high speed.

According to Seagate, the SSD DOES produce temp data:-

"2.9.1 Temperature
Temperature is defined as the drive's internal temperature as reported by SMART attribute 194 for operation or the drive
case temperature for non-operating."

Why on earth is it the case than the B120i in RAID mode is not picking up the SSD drive temps?

I just dont understand what the issue could be.

Whats so special about the Gen8's and the way that only some drives seem to report temperatures? A Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 reports the temps just fine, but a Seagate 600 Pro doesnt?!!

Could HP have disabled the temperature data in the firmware?

So confused and frustrated.

Anyone used a Kingston E50 SSD in a Gen8 Server ok and had temperature data reporting correctly?

Thanks.

RAID 5 Logical Drive Failed, ML350 G6

I've got an HP ProLiant ML350 G6 in my office right now with a Failed Logical Drive, RAID 5, 8 10k 146GB SAS Drives. I've booted to the ACU and saw that 2 of the 8 drives are in Predictive Failure mode, so they haven't completed died. All lights on the drives are solid green. This server doesn't have any data backups for whatever reason and is the only domain controller for one of my clients. I don't really care about the domain controller so much as recovering the data.

While booted to the ACU, would I be able to re-enable the failed logical drive to bring it back online, then replace 1 of the drives at a time? If not, I wouldn't be opposed to sending it to a facility to have the data recovered.

If anyone else has any idea on what to do next with this server, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi i am trying to put 2 new sticks of 8Gb 240pin DDR3 PC3-10600 1333Mhz ECC Registered into a Proliant MK350 G6.  When i install a module in Slots A and B it picks up the Ram in Slot A and shows the server has 8Gb of Ram but then throws an error saying 207 error Memory Initialization Error.

I only have one processor in this server and according to the side panel the memory should go in alphabetically ie Slot A & B.

Any ideas?  What am i doing wrong?

Thanks

Hello.

My server is having some diffucultes with the temp sensor, i have disabled the termal shutdown protection due to this, and the fans are running 100% witch is not good.

See this pichure for temp sensor overview:

http://i.imgur.com/pMbykyX.png

As you can see many of the sensors are not working.

Is showing a temp of 127Celcius witch is realy unlikely.

This just happed randomly yesterday, thats when i had the termal shutdown protection go mad and shut down the server. Its now disabled and the fans are running at 100%.

This problem seem to come and go, as its not allways at 127C sometimes its at an normal level.

What i have done:

Checked that all the fans are running propperly,

Cleaned the server with compressed air.

Rebooted it (obviously)

663201-B21 or 663202-B21 rack rails for DL320e G8 v2

$

I have called HP about 12 times to try and figure out what rack rails are for my DL320e G8 V2 server I just purchased.  Their website lists each one on 2 different webpages.  The unit I have is the starter model, it has 2 large format drives.  Maybe these are interchangeable and I am concerned about nothing but would like to not waste time returnign a wrong purchase.

The 663201-B21 is for SFF and 663202-B21 for LFF, though I see no diferenc ein the serevr mouting if this refers to hard drive types.

Frankly, every department at HP has no clue.  Sales, tech support, customer service.  ANd most, can't speak english.  Truly disappointing.  Not sure I would buy another HP.

Also, HP lists 3 kinds of 4G memory.  I purchased a none HP brand and it is not booting so I guess I need to knwo the exact part number.

Thanks for any help.

Hi experts,

I bought 5 *  HP 3TB G2 FH/HL PCIe ioDrive2 IO Accelerator for ProLiant Servers before and it worked fine. We wanted to increase our database capacity. When I check QuickSpecs of HP 6.4TB FH/HL Value Endurance (VE) PCIe Workload Accelerator here ( http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04123190.pdf?ver=4 )

, it does not list DL980G7. Why doesn't it support DL980G7?

DL320 G5P 1TB RAID Not Detected by Windows 2008 R2 installer

Good morning,

I'm having a little bit of a wierd issue.  I'm wanting to replace one of my older Windows 2003 R2 domain controllers with a DL320 G5p that I had on the shelf.  I have installed 2 1 TB drives and created a RAID1 array.  I then went to install Windows Server 2012 R2 but only get the option to install on one of the physical drive instead of my array.  I found this post and realize that the issue is likely driver related.

I then moved onto installing Windows Server 2008 R2, but no matter what driver I use the installer won't detect my array.  I still had the original 250 GB drives that came with the server, so for kicks and giggles I created a new array using these drives, installed the driver and voila I had somewhere to install Windows Server 2008 R2.

Is there something I'm missing or need to do in order for my 1 TB array to work witih Server 2008 R2?  Could someone possibly send me a link to Server 2012 R2 drivers, as this is really the OS I want to install?

Any help would be appreciated

Kingston E50 problem

Hi Guys,

Ive got a Kingston E50 SSD connected into my Gen8 Server via a Gen8 drive carrier and the hotswap bay.

Works ok and detects temperature correctly etc.

However, the big problem is that the drive activity led is CONSTANTLY spinning.

Nothing wrong with the carrier, if the drive is swapped the LED behaves as normal.

Anyone ever had this before? What on earth could cause the activity LED to be constantly spinning when there is no activity?
