HP Proliant Gen 7 Servers - Selling foreign servers within the UK

$

Hello All,

I have recently recieved servers from the US and have been asked to sell them within the UK. They have been purchased outright and are no longer required as they have been upgraded to Gen 8's.

The problem I am having though is that the buyer we have lined up has requested a formal letter from HP stating that these servers are ok to sell in the UK, due to EEA trademark infringement. I have contacted our american contact within HP who has mentioned that we don't need letter confirmation.

I have attempted to call the support number HP have provided but no one seems to know about these laws and I just keep getting messed about, so I thought best to post on here for an answer?

Without this confirmation I am stuck.

Many thanks in advance

Raid 5, one disk replaced and prompted to accept data loss?

Hi,

Do I have any chance to prevent data loss in the following scenario?

1. I've started our old server after it has been switched off for a long time only to discover that it won't start any more.

I get an error regarding "Array Accelerator Battery Charge Low" (see attached image1) and another error regarding failed disk drive in Box 1, Bay 3 (see attached image1).

2. At this point one HD has its green light (bay 2) on and the other HDs have their lights off (bay 1 and 3).

Trying to continue from here results in a disk error (see attached image2).

3. At this point the HD in bay 3 has its amber light on and the HD in bay1 has still its light off (see attached image4).

4. The logical drive is displayed as failed (see image3)

5. When I replace the HD in bay 3 with a new fresh one and restart the server, I'm prompted with the choice to accept data loss and re-enable logical drive(s) (see image4).

6. At this point all three HD's have their green lights on.

Why am I being asked to accept data loss (I have three HD's in Raid 5 with one having been replaced)? Does this mean that a second HD is also failing (probably the HD in bay which had its light off at point 3)? Why are all lights green then?

I'm grateful for any help.

SL230 Gen8: network interfaces lost after BIOS update

Hello,

We are aligning BIOS settings on our SL230 Gen8 servers. The first series has P75 (02/10/2014), the second series has P75 (08/02/2014). We have made a dump of a golden node in the first series using hprcu and uploaded it using the same tool to all nodes. No problems with the first series, but serious problems with the second series. After rebooting the nodes, 2 out of 4 network interfaces have disappeared, so no longer visible in the BIOS. As a result, these nodes can't be reached over their GigE network. The only way we've found so far to restore the interfaces, is to do a "factory reset". As a result, the disk is also wiped, we have to clone again etc. We get the impression we're not able to modify BIOS settings on this set of nodes using hprcu. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Stefan

Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8

This is a Dynamic Smart Array B120i. The SSA (Smart Storage Administrator) is ver 1.50.4.0 The OS was installed into a single hard disc (bay 1), the SSA reports like RAID 0. Then I add a new hard disc into bay 2 (same size disc). I want to use this new hd like mirror of the first. As you know the GUI SSA dont have a option to migrate this scenario into RAID 1, only can build a second RAID0 profile.
Is there a script to do it?

If delete both RAID0, the data is lost. For now its not possible to reinstall the OS.

Running CLI commands, the message returned is: This operation is not supported with the current configuration.. reason: transformation size zero. This may indicate that there is no battery or a failed battery on the controller

ML350G6 CPU upgrades

HI all,

I've got an ML350G6 configured with an E5504 CPU, which was bought a couple years ago, running as a generic Linux server. As the box starts to show its age, I'm thinking about a CPU upgrade. Having read a couple forums (including this one), it seems that some mainboards support 55xx CPUs only, some support 55xx/56xx.

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/ML350-G6-upgrading-CPU-to-5600-series/td-p/5855237#.VK73RiuG9VI

"System board Part# 511775-001 for systems using Intel 5500 series processors
System board Part# 606019-001 for systems using Intel 5500 and 5600 series processors"

Is it possible to tell from the SKU retrieved via dmidecode that which board does it have? The only partnumber I was able to retrieve is 470065-114.

Thanks,

Hello,

I have a HP Proliant DL380 G6 2x Xeon Quad-Core 2.53GHz 24GB RAM 2x 146GB 10K: and looking to buy more drives to build my home lab with ESXi. I don't have a lot of server experience. Is there anything in particular when upgrading to my drives? Can I just get another 146GB 10K that fits. Does the part number need to match my existing drives?

thank you in advance

Problems with DL380 Gen9 Smart Array

I've had a little trouble getting my DL380 Gen9 up and running..I ran the ProLiant SPP ISO to uprade firmwares but felt the system became less stable as a result, at one point the system got stuck on the Windows loading screen, it seemed to cause the fans in the server spin up as fast as possible which as you can image was incredibly loud, after a long time i had no choice but to hard reset it, this is when the bigger problems started.

During post on the HP loading screen it said there was an error with Smart Array P440, it said something about cache being disabled and that it needed configuring, i re-configured the controller i even deleted the raid arrays and started again but now everytime i boot the system it says the same thing during post that the Array controller needs configuring.. i then get a warning in yellow saying there is errors, press F1 to continue or F2 to view them, pressing F2 takes me to 'Device Health Status' which shows:

Embedded : Smart Array P440ar Conteoller - Device configuration required, which then takes me to HP Smart Storage Administrator.

I can continue and everything works as normal... but how do i get rid of the error?

If i run diagnostic report on the controller i find only one CRITICAL error:

Box failure due to primary IO module

How to fix?

Thanks

"New" Proliant Storage Server 600 All-in-One Storage System AiO600 - AG536A: Use or Chuck?

A client of mine discovered one of these things when they were cleaning out their IT inventory. I'm guessing this dates from somewhere between 2004 - 2006 or thereabouts. The OS in the box is MS Storage Server 2003.

The machine clearly has never been deployed. The client offered it to me for practically nothing. I think this is just a rebranded Proliant ML 350 G5 or thereabouts.

Does it make any sense to try and use this? It would make a battleship of a NAS server, that's for sure. But all of the components have been sitting unused for maybe 8 years or so. The specs show it could hold as much as 12Tb in storage drives.

TIA for your collective wisdom!

How to upgrade iLO 3 firmware?

My iLO interface has been attacked and it is being used for malicious purposes. I need to upgrade the firmware.

The iLO web interface allows me to upload a .bin file ("Obtain the firmware image (.bin) file from the Online ROM Flash Component for HP Integrated Lights-Out.")

Where can I find this .bin file? It is impossible for me to find this in the HP website.

What is the latest iLO 3 version? (my server is a ProLiant DL380 G7)

Thanks!

DL380 gen9 with debian wheezy on board hangs while rebooting

$

Hello,

I've just bought a new DL380 gen9 server and installed a fresh Debian Wheezy (kernel 3.2.0-4-amd64) on it. In BIOS I've loaded the optimized default options.

Problems:

1) Everytime when I type reboot in the command line, the server hangs at the very end of the rebooting process (after shutting down all daemons and printing server is shutting down, just showing a black screen). Only hard reset (press and hold the power on/off button) helps. If I type poweroff, server will go off normally. But this leads to problem number 2)

2) Server doesn't wake up when I send magic packet to it from another server in the same subnet and switch. Wake On Lan options is enabled in BIOS.

Questions:

1) What parameter should I pass to grub to get the server reboot normally? I've tried reboot=bios/efi - but it didn't help. Maybe I should try pci or force or something else? Or maybe I have to update the BIOS firmware?

2) What could prevent server from waking on lan?

Thank you in advance.

Can I recreate RAID 5 after deleting it from a RAID controller (ML350G6, P410i)?

$

Hi all,

In short:

1. Server = ML350G6 with P410i and 1GB cache

2. Server had RAID 5 (5 x 300GB SAS).

3. Backed up the server

4. Removed the drives & deleted the RAID from the RAID controller

5. Created a new RAID 1 with 2 x 1.2 TB SAS re-using some of the slots that were in use by the RAID 5.

6. Restored the server ... except that the backup drive is faulty (Aaaargh)

7. Now I need to remove the RAID 1 & recreate the RAID 5.

How can I recreate such a RAID? I still have the 5 x 300GB HDD.

Do I just insert the drives and create the RAID 5 and the RAID controller will just find the drives and check the RAID or is there a trick to this???

Alexandre

I have a DL380G6 server that is sometimes shutting down unexpectedly. I ran the latest HP Proliant Support Pack on the server and see that my installed drivers/firmware appear to be current.

That said, there is an exclamation mark by certain devices.  When I compare the driver versions that is available, it appears I have the latest driver already installed, so Im not sure if the HPSUM tool is suggesting I downgrade drivers, or if I am misinterpretting the results.

I've attached a screen shot to clarify what I'm seeing.

Low disk i/o performance on DL 580 G2

$

Dear All,

I recently bought 2 refurbished DL 580 G2's on ebay (with 4 x 3.0 GHz Xeon CPU's + 8GB RAM + 4 X 146 GB USCSI HDD's which are configured in a RAID 5 array on a smart array 5i controller with ADG).
The OS on it is windows 2003 enterprise with SP2 and latest critical updates and I used Compaq smart start CD v7.2 to load the OS on it).
These 2 are going to be our primary and standby DB server but the disk I/O on them is ridiculously low at less then 5Mbps (I also have a 2 Dell power edge 6950 servers which has 4CPU's + 8GB mem + 5X 300GB USCSI HDD's) and the disk I/O on them is in access of 150Mbps.
Kindly guide me on how to reconfigure the 2 Proliant DL580's so that the disk I/O improves on both.

Thanks in advance,
Nishant
