ILO2 Password Change via powershell Question

Hi All

I have a question i hope somebody will be able to help answer.  I've been tasked to change the ILO Admin password across our server estate.

I'm planning to do this via powershell and thanks to the excellent HP module, its looks possbile. I run this with the Set-HPILOUser command.

I've tested this and it works for all servers that have ILO-3 or above no problem.  However any server which has ILO-2 doesn't work.  It doesn't throw up an error or anything it seems to run the command but won't change the password.

I'm aware that certain  features within powershell won't work with anyhting less than ILO-3.  I searched around the internet but couldn't find a definate answer.

So my i'm just looking for confirmation that i won't be able to change the admin password  by powershell for servers with ILO-2  or if there is a syntax that i'm missing that would make it work.    All our servers are HP Proliant DL of some format.

Thanks for any advice.

Conrep for DL380 Gen9

While trying to replicate DL380 Gen9 bios configs via conrep I ran into some problems.

It seems that the default conrep.xml (as shipped with the HP STK 10.02) doesn't include all Gen9 bios settings.

This makes it impossible to replicate full bios configurations.

Is there an updated conrep.xml available which includes a more extensive list of settings?

The main thing I'm trying to do is disable the onboard network interfaces.

DL380 Gen8 iLo 4 (Advanced) Remote Console doesn't work with GPU installed?

Just wanted to check that if you have a GPU installed in a DL380 Gen8 server (with iLO4 Advanced) that there's no way of using the Remote Console feature?

I am lead to beleive that if the above GPU is installed, the onboard video card is automatically disabled and this in turn disables the Remote Console feature within iLO4?

Cheers for now

Need Intense Memory Test Tool for DL580 G7 with 256GB RAM

Hi, Does HP (or another) have a good tool which can identify which ram module is faulty?

We have experienced system hanging under heavy load with no indication of why. We have a duplicate live system which is working fine at a different site but the Standard built in memory  diagnostics test have not indentified where the problem is.  A few months ago all the ram was swapped with the live system and that hung after 30mins of heavy load.

Greetings,

Just received my brand new ML350.  No documentation in the box.

Trying to understand everything I must do before powering on the unit.

1.  I have a DVD with windows Standard Server 2012 R2 ISO.

2.  I have (1) 600GB SAS drive and (3) 300GB SAS drives.

3.  I must update firmware before I install OS ?

4.  How do I get into the RAID configuration utility?  I need to create RAID 5 array.

I have spent some time on HP's site looking for relevant documentation and have been inundated.

Anybody have some pointers to the Fine Manuals ?

thanks.

DL380 G5 Disk Wipe?

$

Hi,

I'm trying to decommission a DL380 G5 server with a pair of SAS 72GB hard drives, which were originally configured in a RAID 1 array.

I have long used Active KillDisk to wipe my desktops and it works fine, however, when I tried it on this server it said it was going to take 40+ hours.  So I started searching to see if there was a way to do this more efficiently and found most suggest breaking the RAID config and simply wiping the drives individually.

So I deleted the logical array and now Active KillDisk doesn't see the hard drives at all.

I downloaded DBAN and burned it to a CD and it too reports there are no drives in the system.

Anyone know how to perform a DoD level wipe of the hard drives in a server like this?  Step by step instructions would be appreciated.

FYI, I'm planning on donating this server so I need the drives intact, otherwise I'd consider physically destroying them.

Thanks in advance,

Linn

Storage configuration question

Greetings,

Have a brand new ML350 Proliant.  Hard drives are SAS and capacity are (1) 600GB (3) 300GB.

This is going to be a small database server.  Vendor has mandated that the sql server database should be on raid 5 storage.

Can I configure the raid on the ML350 to have 1 drive (600GB) not be in the raid and install the OS, etc on it.  Then create a raid 5 array on the (3) 300 GB drives for the database?  Or should I return the 600GB drive and try and get (2) more 300GB drives ?

I didn't spec the unit so I am working with what I got.

thanks.

RAID 5 problem

I have a DL380G4 server built with 6 drives. I made a RAID 5 using all 6 drives. Things have been running smooth until we had to move the server to another location. My IT guy decided it would be best to take out all the drives from the server before moving it and he did not write which drive went where. The server was off when he removed the drives. How should I go about putting the drives back in w/o losing all the data?

Thanx in advance.

HP smart array raid doesn't boot, after reboot all is ok

Hi!

I have a ML350 G6 server with a problem. The raid doesn't boot properly when started via hardware button. A reboot seems to cure the problem. Did already change the mainboard and raid battery. What else can be the cause?

The raid blinks blue - green - red - green one time while booting in the error cause. Did upgrade to HP Service Pack 2014.09, nothing changed :(

How could I solve this?

Which way is best Array Configuration

$

Hi all,

I heated discussion was had yesterday and we have 2 techie with opposing ideas on the way forward for DL385 G8 Array configurations. Lets have a generic server with 6 physical HDs.

Method 1

Is to create 1 array with 2 physical disk and make a logical drive raid 1 with that.

Then create array2 using the other 4 physical disk and then make a logical drive raid 5 with that.

.

Method 2

To create 1 array wth 6 physical drives. Then make a logical drive raid 1, then a second logical drive raid 5.

.

What is the recommended route these days?

If a physical drive fails with Method 2 wil all logical drives be affected?

TIA

How to enable PXE boot and grap MAC address from external 10Gb NIC card HP DL160 G9

Dear ProLiant Scripting Experts

I received more than 300 hundreds of ProLiant DL160 Gen9 servers with additional  NIC model HP Etherneet 10Gb 2-port 530T Adapter CNA. We working on PXE network boot environment. So, we need to enable PXE and collect MAC for setup DHCP.

I'm now using some python script and PowerShell such as Get-HPiLONICInfo. unfortunately, it return only embed NIC.

If I go to enable PXE boot in BIOS and collect MAC address manully, it would take me serveral months to complete this task.

I need help on how to scripting on:

- Enable PXE boot on external HP Etherneet 10Gb 2-port 530T Adapter - CNA  (IPv4).
- Collecting MAC Addresses of External NIC.

Any help would be very appreciate.

Hello

Is there any way to speed up POST boot time? It takes Minutes till the Server begins booting the OS. This is very very annoying especially when you are testing e.g. Auto Deploy (boot many times).
