We are planning to use some Proliant DL380 Gen9 servers together with VMware VSAN but there aren't any SAS adapters from HP certified for VSAN. Does anybody knows when we can expect a certified SAS adapter from HP for VMware VSAN?

Following a power outage the server will no longer boot up. During bootup I get the following...
HP Dyanamic Smart Array B120i RAID Controller (v3.06.0m 0MB) 0 Logical Volume
1785-Drive Array Not Configured
Run Array Configuration Utility
Press <F5> to run HP Array Configuration Utility (ACU)
Press <ESC> to skip
**** Boot Logical Drive s configured but is Missing or Offline.
In ACU it shows 930GB available on the 1TB drive. There are few article I found that mention going into F8 boot option and nothing fits in with the options available.
for example these
1. start the computer and wait till you see; "Press F8 to run option ROM configuration for Array utility"
2. Press F8, you will see the Main Menu, Select the last option "Select Boot Volume"
3. Select in Direct attached storage,
4. if you see first logicar drive 01 select it .
5. Press F8 To save Logical Drive 01 as Boot Volume.
6. Press F8 to Exit and start with New Boot Volume.
I did find the following advisory but the controller isnt in the ones listed under Scope.
Also as I mentioned, viewing the ACU screens refer to createing array and creating logicl volumes, no mention of setting boot order. And going the the steps of creating the array and logical volumes seem it will wipe the data.
Thank you in advance.

Can anyone confirm some behavior we're seeing with the HP Smart Array P410 controller? Our disk monitoring system uses the SMART attributes provided by disks to provide us with early notification of predicted disk failures. However, we've found that if "smartctl --all" is called more than 256 times, the controller locks up until the server is rebooted.
Some testing has narrowed it to either of the SMART READ ATTRIBUTE THRESHOLDS or SMART STATUS CHECK calls causing these lockups. Testing was done on a variety of ProLiant DL180 G6 servers, with firmware versions ranging from 3.66 to 6.60. We have found that when the firmware version is less than 5.70 (5.14 being common for us), the lockups do not occur. Firmwares 5.70, 6.00-2, 6.40, 6.48, and 6.60 have all been confirmed to lock up after 256 calls.
This is what appears in dmesg when a lockup occurs:
[ 699.483852] hpsa 0000:06:00.0: Abort request on C0:B0:T0:L1
[ 723.171333] hpsa 0000:06:00.0: Controller lockup detected: 0x0015002d
We have crafted a one line command to reproduce these lockups. In this example, smartctl -H is called against a single disk in rapid succession. However, these lockups also occur when smartctl is run against multiple disks over a span of days to weeks. That is to say, it does not appear to be disk-specific or time-dependant; the lockup will simply occur once the 256 counter is reached.
i=1; while true; do echo "SMARTCTL ID $i"; smartctl -r ioctl,3 -d sat+cciss,0 -H /dev/sda; let i=$i+1; done
Please let me know if any other information is needed to help diagnose these lockups.

When interfacing with a FPM185 KMM KVM, I receive 'out of range' messages . How do I or were can I find the steps to modify the resolution settings on DL380/DL560 servers?

Hi all,
On a server already joined in a domain i try to install the latest SPP using hpsum from the cli:
./hpsum /s /veryv /use_wmi /express_install
However when i list all the namespaces i can't see the wmi "root/hpq" one.
On other server where i have baked the same command into the unattended iso everything works fine.
Any idea?

Hi support,
My server HP ML110G7 now has raid 1+0 (1TB x 2).
Now i just want to add (3TB x 2) for storage only..
When i try to use the F8 in bios, it only allows me to create a logical drive of only 800GB..What could be the problem?
The ACU in windows will detect it as 0TB.
Could updating the driver solve it?
Im using windows server 2012 foundation.

the setup:
NetWare 6.5 SP8, HP DL380G5, with smart array e200i.
3 disks are configured in raid5, now trying to add a 4th disk, using cpqonlin.nlm, which is the ACU for NetWare.
When I start the tool, and selecting the raid card, I got the following warning:
"CPQONLIN.NLM has determined that one or more logical drives on this controller has been configured with RAID ADG and the RAID ADG enabler modules is missing or failed.
The accelerator on this controller will be disabled until the TAID ADG enabler module is replaced or until all logival drives using TAID ADG are deleted or miigrated to other RAID levels.
You will not be allowed to create RAID ADG logical drives untile the RAID ADG enabler module is replaced."
I coudl click this warning away, and get to the page where I can see my disks, but I don`t have an option to extend the array.
Could some explain the relation between extending an array with this RAID ADG enabler module? If there is any... Or anything about how to `replace` this enabler module, as I haven`t found any useful information regarding the E200i controller.
Or the issue not being able to extend the array is not related to that warning above? I have found forum topics where they say that:
- you cannot extend an array with cpqonlin.nlm. you have to reboot and boot smartstart
- you cannot extend an array if the cache battery is dead
Would these be better reasons?

Hello,
I have got problems with two drivers for this server:
1. Universal Seriall Bus Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8D31&SUBSYS_8030103C&REV_05
2. Ethernet Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1521&SUBSYS_337F103C&REV_01
I have tried to install all drivers from hp support page for this server (from network controller). I have also installed all drivers for chipset but still not found the solution.
Hi,
I've just setup a new DL380 Gen9 using 7 x 1.2TB, 2.5" SAS 10K drives.
(HDDs Part No: 718162-B21, Manufactured Aug 2014)
All drives have a current temperature above 55 °C, some have 60-61 °C, even they are not that busy yet.
Environmental temp. is around 21 C, system inlet temp. 22 C.
I've checked some of the older DL380 Gen8 and G7 with smaller HDDs (300 oder 600GB). It's between 35 C - 50 C.
Can anyone comment or has experience with the 1.2TB 10k drive type, if 60 °C is a normal operating/surface temperature?
The QuickSpecs only mention the system inlet temperature.

Henry
We have a DL385 G7 Server with p410i Array controller.Have two drives ,during installation ,it took te default option of raid 0 and now we need to convert the array to raid 1.
One disk showing unassigned and second drive in raid 0.Not getting the option to Migrate or convert the Raid in GUI of ACU.can it be done through CLI ....?will the command ctrl slot=x ld 1 modify raid=1 will work?
Is there any way we shall convert the raid to raid 1 without loosing data?Array accelerator battry is disabled.
Thanks in advance for the solution.
Hi,
I just bought HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 571FLR-SFP+ Adapter for my DL 380P G8 servers.
There is no VMware 5.x driver for this card.
Only SLES and Redhat.
normal / not normal ?
Do I have to change this card or do you developp a Vmware driver ?
Kind Regards

One of our client bought DL 560 G8 (part number 686792-B21)
He has one P420I embedded smart array controller, 4 HP Disks ( Two HP 120 GB 2.5" Internal Solid State drive and two HP 300GB 6G SATA Value Endurance SFF 2.5-in SC Enterprise Value 3yr Wty Solid State Drive)
The client did not want any array configuration. So I have 4 arrays (each one with on disk)
SO=Windows server 2012 R2 Std
I have alreadyapplied the SPP 2014.09. Insight Manager does not report any error.
Sometimes, completely random, when I restart/start the server, he make 2 reboots. In the first, when the windows symbol appears, he restarts again. The second one is definitive. Windows system is loaded.
Can I have some help?
Best Regards
Looking for some advice on configuring an ML350 G6 with the 410i on-board controller. The machine is being built with new SAS drives of 600GB capacity. We have 8 drives available (had 8 300GB drives but the dataset to be transferred is really large - 150GB from 75GB within 1-1.25 years.) So we picked up some bigger new drives to hopefully last a couple years longer before we upgrade again. However, after running the ACU with a std. RAID 5 array config (w/512bit) using all 6 drives and saving the other 2 for spares (not sure if we want to use them for hotswap or not yet), we realized that we couldn't use the full space of the 6 drives (>2TBs).
We wanted to use the extra arms to get a little better performance since there's about 30 or so individuals hitting the DB and on the older server with 4 drives, it gets slow. Maybe we should just go back to the 300 GB drives to fit under the 2TB limitation and retain a simpler, easier to manage RAID config?
So any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!
I am having the following issue. I hope someone shed light on how to resolve this.
We got a DL385 G7 box used as VMware ESX host and that was installed in the local LUN was configured with 5xdisk RAID 5 plus one standby spare disk.
A while back, in vCenter, the hardware status on the above host shows a warning on the spare disk with "Patoh Unknown". We immediately orderred a replacement disk and swap it. but however the warning message was persistent. Then, we decided to reboot the host to see if that would clear the fault. After the host restart the message in vcenter change from warning to error and recongrized as "disk error".
We thought the replacement disk might be faulty, so we had to order another disk and just inserted it today. However, the disk still shows "disk error". but on the host, there is no status light on the physical disk (replacement disk"
Anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks in advance.

Ive had the question of 'upgrading/replcement' options of an array, preff without having to fair RAID fallout.
im planning to replace these 800's on SMART error notice with 1tb's from SeaGate.
but can i do this without having to struggle much about errors, no posts ect ect.
AND ive also the weird error in the '3rd' raid array that the 5th disc is dying so thats why im asking this.
the drive gives this error not frequently, and only from time to time when booting the system, that has been running now for 4 years.
the server, and the P400 have the latest firmware installed.
I run the following config:
HP DL185G5, thus 12drive's
if you need more info, plz let me know, and i provide

Hello,
Is there any way to put a p812 controller into JBOD mode? We want to use software RAID with a large number of disks. So far I haven't found a way to allow the OS to see indivudal drives that aren't part of a RAID volume on the p812.
Thanks,
Shane

Here is what I would like to do:
I have a DL380G7 Proliant server and right now it has a single p812 controller with 1GB Flash backed cache & a single p410i controller that has no cache at all. The OS drive is hosted on two 10K SAS drives configured in a mirrored array that is currently on the p410i controller. I have an MDS 600 attached to the p812 controller that is fully maxed out with 64 luns. The MDS600 itself actually holds 70 drives and it does have the full 70 drives installed. That means that I have 6 drives I can't use. I purchased a 2nd p812 controller which is identical to the first.
My questions are pretty simple.
I know that the RAID configuration is on the disks, but am not sure much that will help in this scenario.
Any information greatly appreciated.

Hi folks,
This should be easy for someone. How do we find the disk drive firmware rev we are running on a Proliant DL380 G7? It's an ESXi box and I can't seem to locate it thru the ILO.
Many thanks in advance.
