New Rails won't fit in 3rd Party Rack

I have a ML370T01 server and I just purchased a rail for it. (332558-B21) I have a "round hole" rack that is older. The Rail will not fit properly. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to make this work. Is their some kind of bracket I can use? Modifications?

Those holes on the rail kind of stick out in the picture causing it not to fit in my rack and their is a metal "lip" causing it not to go in. Obvisusly I have a different rack.

As noted in the screen shot attached, I can't seem to get cp023853.exe to install under W2K12R2 on a DL360G5.  What do I need to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

DL380p Gen8 Unexpected Shutdown

Dears,

I am new to HP and i am facing up to 7 unexpected shutdowns a day. I searched the web and found it is something to do with CPLD version earlier than version 32. I downloaded CPLD version 32 for Windows 64-bit and placed it in a USB key along with SPP using USB key creator. But before i boot from the USB key, i want first to check if CPLD version is causing the shutdowns.

Which tool/utility to use to check the system logs? .. I read about iLO and Insight Diag but not sure which one to start with first.

One last question, do i need to install SPP every release to fix issues? .... Sadly, the firmwares haven't been updated for years, may this be what causes the shutdown problem?

Appreciate your help

HP ProLiant ML570 G4 - Adding a new disk to the Array

$

Hi

Wonder if anyone could give me some quick advice with this, we have an old ML570 G4 which has 3 146GB disks configured in a Raid 5 array.

My colleague just added a 300GB disk to the server and I want to expand the array. I loaded smartstart and got this screen attached, what options do I need to click to expand the array so it includes the new disk? I have never done this before and worried about wiping the disks entirely.

Kind regards,
Mark

Where does Raid configuration stored?

Server1:
A smart array 532 with 6 hot swap 36GB is configured with two set of raid 5 (each has 3 disks)
It is installed in a ML350 G3 with windows 2000

Server2:
A smart array 641 with no disk on it
A ML350 G4P with windows 2000

Question:
Can I move the disks from Server1 to the Server2. And expecting SA641 to detect the existing raid configuration on the disks.

Technicality:
Is the raid configuration stored in RAID CONTROLER or is stored on HARD DISKS?

PS: SA641 was used before on a Server3 to hold 3 different raids. Do I need to clear the SA641 in anyway from it’s old configuration?

Hi, I have a HP Proliant DL380 with integrated controller Smart Array 5i. I would like to know how to change the advanced settings for this controller (cache write back / cache write trought / stripe size for logical drive) and how to run check consistency on logical disk that I have created. If I enter in the bios of the controller i can only view/create/delete logical disks but I cannot change advanced configuration settings for the controller.

Firmware upgraded in wrong order

Hi guys,
Can you please help.
We have 3 brand new servers ready to go on-site for a client and have jsut found out that we upgraded the Firmware on the Raid cards in the wrong order, however we have no problems at all.
This is what we done.

ML350g3
Smart array 642

Upgrade the bios on the server and built windows 2000.

We then received the additional part called "Smart array 642 64MB BBWC Enabler) which was installed into all 3 servesr, my guy then read the compaq "updated information card in the box and found that it said

"DO NOT INSTALL THE MODULE UNTIL THE FIRMWARE FOR THE RAID CARD IS UPGRADED FROM 1.14 TO 1.30."

We have simply done it in the wrong order howerver are having no problems, i am worried incase something down the line happens when the servers are fully live and working.

Anuy help please......

P.S, the Compaq note does state that the 642 MUST be upgraded prior to installing the Cache Module...i simply need to know why and how can this effect me....

Intregrated Array Controller Replacement

I have a Proliant ML370 (600 MHz) with an integrated array controller. The system continues to ASR at random intervals, sometimes a few days, sometimes a few months. It has done this with two separate loads of NT 4. We are beginning to suspect the integrated array controller and would like to swap it out with a Smart-221 controller for testing purposes. The system has a raid 1 logical drive. When removing the chip for the integrated controller and replacing it with the 221, will the array configuration be maintained? Does Compaq/HP have documentation for replacing the integrated controllers with a PCI array controller?

Can't read data on Drive Array

I have Proliant ML530 with 2 Smart Array 5312 controllers in. 1 for 2 internal disks (RAID 1) to run the OS (win2k) and 1 for an external drive array with 14 disks split into 2 RAID 5 containers (7 disks each).
I have had to re-install the OS and used the smart start CD and reformatted the controller used to run the OS. The other was untouched. I however now cannot see any of the data on the 2 RAID 5 containers in Windows. Please can someone suggest how I can recover these.

Many thanks..

Hi,
I need to configure a cluster system with SCO Unixware, but on quickspecs there isn't the compatibility for this o.s.
Anyone knows if unixware is working anyway ?
If not, is there another way to clustering SCO Unixware ?

Getting LUN on Solaris 10

I have two pair of HP Proliant ML 350 G5 with HP SC08Ge board and interfacing MSA2012sa ( AJ 752 ) using Solaris 10. Simple systems, they are all built the same; so that is from MSA, one cable to machine A( ML 350), and one cable to machine B( ML350). And have two pair each the same.

Question: why is it that in unix( solaris 10), in the the /dev/rdsk/ directory on one pair I get c3t1dX… and the other pair I get c3t2dx….
I know its is coming from the MSA2012sa as I’ve swap the two MSA round and the t1/t2 stay with the MSA box. Also when boot unix, the print out from the SC08Ge spits out slot/id/lun and you also see the id difference then. That is
In my case slot 5 id 1 lun 0…. And on the other pair slot 5 id 2 lun 0….

What am I missing? I wish for the pair to match, I don’t care if id is 1 or 2 just the same on both pair.

HBA drivers for a DL380 G5

Hello

I had to rebuild my DL380 G5 storage server. I used the restore CD from the HP software Depot site. Now when I create a snap shot from the EVA using RSM the presentation fails. The error is no available HBA ports.

This worked correctly before I had to rebuild the DL380. I have Emulex A8300A HBA’s installed on the server. Every driver I have found to the Emulex card fails to install the error is not supported for this OS.

Any thoughts?

I have proliant DL380G4 & MSA30 with 14 300GB drives. I understand this runs off the 6i controller. Will this controller allow me to create a logical driver larger than 2TB??

Hi,

first of all sorry for my english and for this confused subject.

I have a DL360 G2 Server with 2*147GB in RAID-1 drives miroring mode.

I will have in few days a DL380 G3 proliant and will sell DL360.

My simple question is will I be able to pull the drivers from 360 and then juste put them in DL380, creating an array then all is ok ? Of course I don't want to lost datas.

does this work that way ??

thanks.

Proliant DL 360 G5 Raid1 change from 72GB HD's to 300GB HD's

I have (2) Raid 1+0 setups on G5 system
1st on is bootable on 72GB HD's the second is the new Raid (300GB drives)that I would like to make bootable. I have a image of the 72GB bootable system drive already but don't know how to make my second raid set bootable after I have copied and info over and removed the 1 raid (a) from the system. I only want to keep the new RAid (b) 300GB drives in the system.

DL380 w/Smart Array 5i Plus: Options

First apologies being expert at PCs but novice at servers.

I just bought 2 DL380 310587-001 dual 3.06/512 Xeon 2gb memory servers with the following hard drives: (1) 72gb u320, (3) 36gb u320, (1) 18gb u2, and (1) 18gb u3 and am trying to determine what my options are for getting both servers up and running. (My application is raw number crunching, CPU intensive, and will be using these servers as PCs w/XP PRO installed. Why these servers? Because they offer the biggest bang for the buck - I'm training neural networks and need a room full of PC's for training and backtesting(!) )

My first question is the Duplex/Simplex choice. From what I have read, Duplex results in a Raid 1 mirror of HD slots 0,1 and a Raid 5 of slots 2,3,4,5. I have read this is the ONLY configuration. But I have questions:

1) Is R5 possible for any 3 or the 4 HD slots 2-5?
2) Is R0 (no raid) possible on either or both Channels?

Regarding Simplex:

This means all 6 HD slots are on this single channel. So my questions:

1) Is any RAID possible? 0, 1, 5? on this array?
______________________________________

Since redundancy is not important, RAID 0 would utilize all my HD capacity.

Since I have these slower 18gb drives, DUPLEX would allow me to not mix SCSI types, e.g. I would run a u2/u320 and u3/u320 Ch2/1 on the two DL380's. Have I got that right?
_______________________________

The other thing I was contemplating was getting Xeon cpu's with either the 1 or 2mb L3 cache since it is said they dramatically improve performance. It appears that I should be able to upgrade the cpus in this regard. Should I be concerned about any issues?
_______________________________

Since I will have empty bays with the limited number of hard drives, do I have to run the "blank caddies?" I have 2 of them but am 4 short. Are they necessary for any kind of SCSI termination or are they required to maintain the proper cooling flow through the existing hard drives? (My guess is flow but I could be very wrong.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated and of course,
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Proliant 385 G6 Unable to upgrade firmware on P410

Hi!

A customer of mine has 2 x DL 385 G6 running vsphere 4U1. We have successfully upgraded firmware and bios using Firmware Maintainance CD 8.70,
But when trying to upgrade to firmware 2.74 for the P410 we face problems.

I've tried creating a USB-stick with firmware maintaninance CD 8.70, and adding the CP012212.scexe. This USB-pen works (I've used it to upgrade a couple of 385 G5ps).
But on both of the 385 G6 it times out after about 10 mins with "Discovery Failed"
I've also tried to create a 8.60 USB-pen, then the discovery fails even quicker (less than a minute)

It is the following update:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3821728&swItem=MTX-b61688c9662849dea698152223&prodNameId=3821813&swEnvOID=4040&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

Any tips?
