network bug leading to BSOD
With the team TLB method set to Round-robin, connecting to the target server such as via SMB, BSODs the target server sometimes almost instantly, sometimes after transferring a very small amount of data.
Target system is fine with the source TLB method set to automatic, so no worries there, but a confused NIC shouldn't bring down the OS.

Moving arrays between servers...
Have several servers I need to upgrade.. current config on all of them is DL380 G2 with 2 x 36Gb U3 disks in mirror for OS and 4 x 146Gb 10k U320 disks in Raid 5 for data.
Want to upgrade the servers to DL380 G4 with 2 x 72Gb 15k U320 disks in mirror for OS and (here's the important bit) move the 4 x Raid 5 data disks across from the old G2's into the new G4's.
I'm fairly sure this is okay to do, but I thought I'd check - can I simply power off the G2 server(s), move the 4 x 146Gb disks across to the G4 server(s) into the corresponding slots, power on and the Raid5 set will be recognized and the data will all be there? The OS is Windows 2003 by the way.
I have a recollection that I may need to import a "foreign disk" in disk management possibly? And from memory, the controller asks a question about importing or repairing or something during first boot??
Unfortunately I have no spare hardware to try this out on. Worst case is I'll restore data from tape, but hey I'd rather not... it's a good 300+Gb per server and I have to do three of them in 3 different geographic locations! :)
Another related question - The old G2's just use the inbuilt 5i Controller and the new ones probably will have just the 6i controller... These are file servers but they handle some pretty heavy duty data (large engineering drawings, etc). Should I opt for a better SCSI controller (in which case, what one?) or just stick with the 6i on the new servers? Suggestions welcome!
Thanks very much!
Andrew.
Disk Expansion using 5300 Smart Array
Have ML530 G1, running Windows 2000 SP4, using Installed Agents for Windows 2000/Server 2003 7.10.0.0
Array Configuration Utility 2.90.65.0
HP Array Configuration Utility 7.15.19.0
Have expanded the array, so have 135Gb of unallocated free space. Can I expand the 1st logical disk drive to give it all the free space.
Logical drive 1 configured as 36Mb Utilities, 10Gb C & 135Gb on Drive E. We want to expand drive E so we don't have to rebuild our Doc Stores.
When using the ACU it gives a warning to say you can't or shouldn't if using windows 2000, When using the web based ACU 7.15 it gives no warning.. Its important I get this right or my projects are going down the pan !!!!!!.

P812 Solaris ACU CLI No Controllers Detected
We have a DL180 G6 with a P812 running Nexenta (based on Solaris)
The stock cpqary3 driver which Solaris include detected the P812 fine and it's connected MSA70 storage shelf.
# modinfo | grep cpqary3
76 fffffffff7d70000 a840 219 1 cpqary3 (HP Smart Array Driver)
We are unable to get any version of the Solaris HP ACU CLI to detect the P812 Controller.
We have an identical server setup with a P410 controller and after installing the CPQary3 driver version 2.7 from HP the ACU CLI detects the P410 controller fine.
If we install the same version 2.7 CPQary3 driver on the server with the P812 controller will the driver detect it?
I can't see the P812 in the drivers supported card list but the older Solaris provided driver above detects the P812 fine.
Can we install the 2.7 driver while the server is running and serving iScsi storage to about 80 VMs without rebooting?
Will installing the driver affect IO in a way that would cause the VMs to crash?
The servers OS also runs off the P812 so would the OS crash while the new driver is installed?
Can we bring this new driver online without a reboot?
We want to avoid rebooting this server if at all possible because bringing down 80 VMs is not trivial and requires a lot of planning and contacting customers etc.
Any advise or ideas on another way to get an ACU CLI working with the current running driver wqould be much appreciated.
Thanks
Mirrored Drives Puzzle
I'm currently experiencing an issue with my mirrored drives in a DL360 - I'm trying to recover a server that was once a DL380 but I don't have a spare DL380 so I've placed one of the mirrored disks into a DL360. I only have one of the disks available. The OS boots fine from the disk in the DL360 but when I add a second disk it does not rebuild the mirror. I've looked in the array config and it appears that the existing array is looking for a missing disk on SCIS Channel 2.
I have deducted that the two disks in the DL380 were on SCSI Channel 1 and SCSI Channel 2 but the DL360 only has the single channel. So the raid controller has read the array config from the disk and decided that it is missing a disk from SCSI Channel 2 even though that channel does not physically exist in the server.
Does anybody know how I can fix this and retain the data currently residing on the single disk on the DL360.
Thanks
17xx-Controller in lock up State
One server gives me the 17xx-Controller in lock up State error message.
The other server attempts to initialize the 5i controller but fails. It is unable to spin up any drives and eventually just sits there with a blinking cursor.
Any ideas on how to proceed? Will replacing the onboard 5i controller cards resolve these problems?
Proliant DL580, Smart Array 5300 Controller Failure!
I shut it down, inspected the PCI card and booted again. The system loaded just fine until about 15 minutes later it blue screened again. The blue screen read..
KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
STOP: 0x0000007A (0xE16D3CDC,0xC000000E,0x0026C860)
I overnighted a replacement 5300 controller and installed it this morning only to have the same "1783-Slot x Drive Array Controller Failure! [Command failure (cmd=11h, err=020d, dlu=0f00f:413Fh)]"
I did use the SmartStart cd and made sure the system knew the new card was installed.
A few times a message posts that the controller array accelerator battery charge is low
Could the Drive Array Controller Failure be caused by the controller battery not fully charged? Or is this a bad controller card?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
adding drives to 642 controller
Will I be able to do that, or would I have to reinstall everything?

Migration Raid
I have installed new 72GB drive. I want Drive migrate RAID 0 to RAID 0+1. I did the follw.
Launch array configuration utilities 7.30 and I see the 72GB parallel scsi unassigned drive at port 2
select configuration wizard
select migration a logical drive
select begin
select logical drive 1 (20500 MB, RAID 0)
select next
here I see only RAID 0 selection.
where is the wrong?. kindly help me
Logical Drive Expantion and Linux (DL380)
Now my doubt is, should i expand the drive directly (is it supported on linux?) or should i add a second logical drive and use lvm to make use of that space?

Proliant ML370 Won't Install Windows Server 2003
Using OBDR in ML110G3 with SATA-RAID-1
I got a ML110G3 server which had a SATA RAID-1
as storage-disks...
I knew there is an ODBR by using USB TAPE for this server...
but I saw that OBDR was booted as a SCSI-CD-ROM to do the restore
but is that also worked in SATA-RAID-1 or just the SCSI-model is worked ??
I am planning to but a USB TAPE to do OBDR but need to know if that worked with my current G3 server....
Which SCSI controller for new ML370
Raid 1 on 2 HD for OS
Raid 5 on 4 HD for Data
external SCSI tape backup
I assume I need the "backplane kit" for the dual RAID, but it says onboard controller must have 2 unused channels or add other controller.
So do I need an addition controller?
SA 6400, changing failed disk with correct spare but different GPN causes other disks to fail
we had a failed disk.
Changing the failed disk with the correct spare sent by hp support caused other disks to fail as well.
We removed all the new failed disks and inserted them one by one again. They appeared back working but the new inserted disk appeared failed.
After various tries (firmware upgrade, changing order of insertion of failed disks), we never managed to have the new disk to work together with the old ones.
We asked another new disk to hp support with same result.
It seems that our old disks with GPN 271837-004
cannot stay in the same array with the new ones
with GPN 404670-003. Either the new one or the old ones becomes failed when mixed on the same array.
Anyone had a similar issue?
All our 12 drives are configured whit a big logical drive RAID 1+0.

Diego.
status Ready for rebuild
Iâ m a newbie, I have a Proliant DL380 G4 with Windows 2000 server, using the system management I saw that the Logical drives are in "Ready for rebuild" status, my question is how can I start the rebuilding ? this status has been since 3 days ago!!!
Host with redundant controllers
Hi all.
I'm looking for a HP solution (competition is Dell with PERC active/passive controllers technology) that could address the need of redundant controller paths with automatic failover.
I've listed the following:
#1 SINGLE Hp Proliant server (DL585 or DL385)
#1 HP MSA500 G2 CTO Chassis (includes 2 642 SA controllers)
#1 ProLiant-MSA500G2-Modular Smart Array 500 G2 4-Port Shared I/O Storage Module with Multipath Software
#1 ProLiant-MSA500G2 redundant controller kit-1 x MSA500G2 RAID Controller Ultra320 con 256MB BBWB Cache
#2 ProLiant-256MB Battery Backed Cache Upgrade Kit for Smart Array 53xx
Some Ultra320 disks
Do you think this configuration could work?
Again: Mixing SAS and SATA Devices on E200i (ML350 G5)
as the forums says two different things, let me ask again please.
I want to buy an ML350 G5 with 2 SAS Drives included (SFF). Those will be in a raid1.
I also want a SATA HDD and a SATA-Streamer (AIT2) in this server.
Now my two questions:
1. The HP 120 GB SATA 1.5Gb/s Festplatte Hot Plug - 2,5" (5.400 U/Min.) is suggested with this server - will it work with the E200i?
2. Is there any internal SATA-Port for the streamer?
The forum says it is possible, but will it work with the suggested setup?
