Proliant ML350 G6 - power a graphics card through molex connectors?
Do I have to buy this cable, which seems both expensive and generally unavailable, to power a graphics card in my ML350 G6, or can I just hook it up to a couple of molex? I'm looking at something like a GTX 750 Ti or better. It's going to be used only for BOINC. My PSUs are 1200W.
Also, I would like to update the bios but find nothing available for my OS, Ubuntu 14.04.3, in the list for my server. I bought the server on craigslist and it's out of warranty.
DL360 Gen9 - 'Power and Thermal Calibration' Freeze
Good Morning,
I have an issue with two DL360 G9 Servers - both will occasionally hang at 'Power and Thermal Calibration' on boot. The machine has clearly halted as pressing the power button immediatley turns the machine off.
Both servers are the following spec:
774435-425 HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 E5-2620v3 1P 16GB-R P440ar 500W PS Base SAS Svr/TV
720478-B21 HP 500 W Flex Slot Platinum Hot Plug Power Supply Kit
One has 3x
759208-B21 HP 300GB 12G SAS 15K rpm SFF (2.5-inch) SC Enterprise 3yr Warranty Hard Drive
(2x configured in RAID1 and 1x Hot Spare)
The other has 2 of the above drive and 2x
759212-B21 HP 600GB 12G SAS 15K rpm SFF (2.5-inch) SC Enterprise 3yr Warranty Hard Drive
Which are configured in two seperate RAID1 arrays. It also has additional memory:
726719-B21 HP 16GB (1 x 16GB) Dual Rank x4 PC4-2133P-R (DDR4-2133) Registered
They were purchased approximatley 3 months apart. I have set one to 'Maximum Performance' in the power settings, the other is currently set to the factory power configuration. I have seen both freeze at different times.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Thanks
Craig
DL380 G9 - how to install Windows Server 2012, create partition more that 2TB
Hi
I have DL380 G9 series server with 5 nos 1.2TB SAS drives(Total some 4.2 tB usable with RAID 5), I want to install Windows Server 2012 R2 in it with RAID 5 enabled. The partion size I want to have is C: with 500 GB and rest for D: drive , but after configuring RAID 5 and while trying to install OS , during the partioning stage the Windows OS automatically creates two separate partion of size 2,4 TB and 1.x TB size , what I did is to create only 500 GB HDD , but other two partiions are getting created automatically. After completing the installation i tried to merge those partition but no luck. PLease let me know how I can create partion more that 2 TB in this case.
Proliant DL360p Gen8 becomes unreachable. Getting Event ID 16002 prior to crash.
Hello all!
I have a recurring issue with a Domain Controller that has been a PITA for some time now. The DC is a Server 2012 R2 Standard on an HP ProLiant DL360p Gen 8 hardware platform.
The system will randomly become unreachable by other systems and our Active Directory will begin sending out alarms that Replication has been interrupted and our NOC will get a notification that the system has gone down. When we logon to the DC through the Out-of-bounds network, we can see that the OS is still up, but there is nothing being sent or received through the NIC.
In checking the System Event Logs just prior to rebooting (when the system becomes unreachable), we see about 330 Warning Events with Event ID 16002, Source: AFD
Closing a UDP socket with local port number [55048-54920] in process 1044 is taking longer than expected. The local port number may not be available until the close operation is completed. This happens typically due to misbehaving network drivers. Ensure latest updates are installed for Windows and any third-party networking software including NIC drivers, firewalls, or other security products.
The port range listed in the Event Description isn't even a range that we use. I have a NetStat monitor running and none of those ports show up in the monitor logs before, during or after the event.
Further, I have run DCDIAG and BPA on the system. DCDIAG yielded nothing useful (all Tests passed) nor did BPA (Nothing unusual or that is not on another system that isn't affected by this issue).
The NIC drivers were originally Microsoft and we installed HP drivers on the NIC to see if that would help. It hasn't.
Also, since I don't know the cause of the issue, I cannot manually recreate the error but simply have to wait until it happens again.
Has anyone else seen this issue and if so, how did you remediate it?
Anyone get SPP to work with PXE using HTTP?
I have the latest SPP (2015.10.0) and am currently using PXE to patch servers. I mount the iso using NFS. However, NFS is frowned upon in this organization and I want to move it to load the iso using http.
Looking at the initrd.img file I was able to see the mount_fs.sh command does support http. I just don't know what options to set up in my PXE append line to leverage http. Has anyone figured out how to make http work yet (what does media=cloud do)?
Thanks,
Scott
Post/BMC problem with old school ML115 G5
Hey Proliant People! - Old School ML115 G5 question
This seems the proper forum for this question, especially considering the depth of knowledge here. If this is not the appropriate place for this inquiry, and there actually does exist an alternative, please advise.
I will keep this initial post short and too the point. Please request additional info if I have landed in the right place.
I have dusted off an old ML115 I bought brand new back in 2008 for a since closed business. Been getting into modding and benching and thought it would be interesting to play around with. In general, so far so good, kinda.
I have downloaded and utilized all the resources available for this model from this site: firmware/drivers/software.
https://h20565.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/home/?sp4ts.oid=3580609
And updated/flashed the BMC and Bios to the last released/latest versions.
Two things:
1. Sometimes Post hangs at the HP Proliant startup logo. Never goes any further. I have to cold reset and then wait!!! If I try again right away, it wont work. After waiting a number of minutes, it will post again. I will then flash the bmc and on restart it will hang. I have to wait again, and it eventually posts and updates the BMC. I cant figure out what is buggering it up at the start. I do have a heartbeat before I powerup and while the post is hung. And I do have this error in my BMC event log:
EvM Format Ver=04(IPMI v2) ; Sensor Type =0F (POST ERROR); Dir Type = 71; Data Type 0E00000; Description = CMOS checksum error
2. The original OS was w2k3 SBE x86. I want to get a 64 bit os installed. I have tried XP x86 and it works wonderfully. I'd like w2k3 x64, but not sure how to obtain it just quite yet, But since the POST problem started, when it does get to actually booting up the OS I will get get a flash of the initial welcome screen, then darkness. The monitor indicator light stays on, but I get nada. This also now happens when I tried to reinstall XP, after it loads all the drivers and tries to launch the set-up it does the same. Flash, then nothing. ALSO, I get the same problem when I tried to run the HP Insight Diagnostics Offline Edition!!?? It gets all going and then when it launches into the UI, flash-nothing.
Few notes:
I have changed the battery. I have tested/verified the RAM. I have tried diferent SATA ports. I can run HP Insight Diagnostics from the HP Easy Setup CD and ran a complete diagnostics, with no errors!!?? I really wanted an error. (see attached logs)
Oh yeah, I have disassembled/reassembled this rig. The mb was out of the case. Of course I was careful, but it got knocked around a bit. I thought I may have knocked off one of the numerous jumpers. Upon comparison to spec docs, I can not see anything wrong. If there was physical damage, I would think it would cause more evident symptoms, like not working at all. Instead of this weird intermitent behavior.
So Anyone? Ideas?
I really appreciate it. Thanks!

DL380 G7 Problem
We have a Dl380 G7 in a remote office that's been running ESXi5 for a couple of years. This site recently experienced a power cut, and while this has happened before and the server recovered ok, this time it hasn't.
The symptoms are;
The server will power on, and the fans will go to full speed. No video or POST is observed
After 5 mins of roaring fans, the HP ProLiant logo is displayed on the screen, and POST seems to start
Memory shown is correct. NIC BIOS loads. RAID controller seems to initialize, but then nothing. The server just goes unresponsive.
A message is visible saying that iLO3 is not available or responding. Everying else looks ok.
What I've tried;
Disconnecting RAID controller SAS ports on mobo and pulling the cache card
Pulling the backplane I/O riser completely out of the system
Reseating all memory modules
Setting DIP 6 to on (iLO security), then powering on
Setting DIP 0 to on (clear NVRAM)
Pulling the coin cell battery
None of this seems to help though.
What I've also identified is, with everything disconnected, I can get into the BIOS screen (F9 at boot). When I do this, the fans revert to normal speed, the BIOS screen appears and I can navigate it ok (I restored default settings here to). Once I did this, the server appeared to reboot (fans still at normal speed), but no video and no POST. Left the server overnight - no change. If I pull the power cords completely, then reconnect, server starts, fans go to full speed, and the process starts again.
I have a DVD with the ProLiant Service Pack 2015.10, planning to reflash the iLO. The server doesn't have a DVD drive, so I attached a USB one, and from a cold boot, the server started booting from the DVD. The DVD splash screen appeared, and the message 'copying image to local filesystem' was shown. The progress bar reached about 25% before the screen flashed and the server rebooted again (fans are at normal speed at this stage), then nothing. I left the server for an hour or so, but still nothing. I started to press the power button for 5 seconds to reset, but after around 3-4 seconds, suddenly the monitor showed an image that I can only assume is the Service Pack (it's a blue/black screen with what looks like a wave). Nothing else appeared. I could move the mouse pointer, but nothing further was displayed.
So, I think there must be a way to recover this server. All the hardware looks ok, but I think something has got corrupted following the power cut (iLO probably). I'm way more familiar with Dell servers, so I'm not 100% how best to fix this.
Any advice?
Proliant DL380 G8 with Samsung SM951 SSD
Hello,
We have bought a Samsung SM951 SSD drive PCI-e (photo) to use in our Proliant DL380 G8 server.
We have put a SQL server database on it, after a while the database becomes corrupt.
SQL gave errors like:
Unable to read and latch page (1:7224143) with latch type SH. 1117(The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.) failed.
Before this we had another SSD drive.. we have returned it to the supplier because it was very slow.
But now, we are in doubt if it will ever gonna to work.
What is wrong here? Is it impossible to use a PCIe device in the Proliant G8 server?
Hope you can help us.
HP Windows server 2012 Std Rok
Is it possible to downgrade from HP Windows server 2012 Std Rok to Windows 2008 server Std R2? How isthis procedure?
If a final customer brought a new server with HP Windows server 2012 Std Rok, but he has the windows 2008 server Std R2 installed and did not receive any windows key (nor of the HP Windows server 2012 Std Rok neither of the Windows 2008 Server Std R2), what can be done to know if the Windows 2008 Server Std R2 is legal?
Does the Hp have a relation between the Serial number of a server and the windows Key bought??
I am not asking this to make any illegal thing, mas a new customer has this scenario
Once again, sorry for my bad english
Thanks in advance.

DL585 g5 upgrade to latest firmware
Hi there.
Have been experimenting with re-tasking an old dl585 g5.
Have put some known good drives and some straight out of packet drives into it and tested with linux and freebsd.
I got a few firmware warnings from boot (probably with the unused but old drives), from memory.
I tried the HP SUM 7.4.0 offline iso to start off but after it showed the hp screen it failed to load.
It complained about failing to mount the cdrom. and dumped me to a # prompt.
I ran dmesg and could not find any reference to the cdrom drive at all, even though it booted from it.
What is the best way to get the firmware to it's latest versions or most up to date (for all parts but specifically the drives and p410 controller) There is no warranty so I believe I can't download the latest SPP and I'm not sure it would boot anyway considering the previous error.
I have installed freebsd and slackware linux in turn to test driver compatability and hardware and it all seemed to work fine.
Thanks in advance.
HP Provilian ML150
I have some questions about HP ML150 server that i recently bought.
I want to use a dedicated raid card and have now installed LSI Megaraid card.
Is this card compatible with 725872-B21 HDD Cage?
Can i connect this cage to The LSI Card?
Does it work to just get one SAS - SAS cable more and connect the LSI card to the Cage?
If i want to order one more 725872-B21 HDD Cage what do i need more then the cage?
Is cables and all i need in the package?

Issue with Proliant Insight WBEM Provider and SMH
I want to set the SMH Data Source to WBEM instead of SNMP on my servers (because this allows updating disk firmware through SMH/VCA as well among other things).
It's working on one DL360 G7, but not on 4 of my DL 360 gen8. All servers running Windows Server 2008 R2. The WBEM providers are not recognized by the SMH, I have no option to choose the data source manually in the SMH and actually it should switch the data source to WBEM automatically once the providers are installed.
Here is the one working server and the HP software versions:
wmic product where "name like '%HP%'" get Name, Version
Name Version

I tried various re-installations, service restarts, reboots or using WBEM Provider v10.20 as well, but no luck.
Does anyone have an idea why the SMH does not recognize the WBEM providers?

SE326M1 with Non-HP-SAS-Controller
Hey Folks, maybe this is the better forum...
I've got a older SE326M1 (HP DL180 G6 with 25 SFF HDD Slots) and want to use it as a kind of storage server, esp. for Hyper-V and stuff. Therefor, I've got a Adaptec 5805 SAS/SATA-Controller (with RAID-Options). I want to use it with the internal SAS Backplane and replace the default P410 Controller. The Adaptec controller itself is recognized, but it does not show a single hard drive, allthought there are several through all the available SAS-Inserts. I've connected the SAS Backplane via the original mini-SAS-cables (SFF-8087) that were connected to the P410. The Adaptec Controller should support more than just a few HDDs:
"Supports 8 direct-attached or up to 256 SATA or SAS disk drives using SAS expanders"
Even if it would only support 8 disks - it does not show a single one.
The adaptec controller has 2 SFF-8087 ports.
Does the HP SAS-Backplane work as a regular SAS-Expander (it is only connected by 2 mini-SAS-ports) or is it kind of specials and just works with HP controllers??
Just a few words, why I want to exchange the P410: This controller can not disable RAID. I want to reach all HDDs by OS and use Microsofts Storage Pool technology to mix SSDs, SAS and SATA disks. The P410 can not even mix SATA and SAS in one array.
Thanks in advance!

Intermediate CA certificates
Hi,
In our (very large) organisation we have a private CA setup for all our internal web-interfaces (security policy). Now it seems the ILO4 on our very new DL380 Gen9 is not able to handle the intermediate CA certificates. Which is more or less mandatory for webservers.
I propose a feature, where it is possible to add intermediate CA certificates, or a certificate chain file (all certificates concatenated). So probably more memory is needed in the ILO system., but memory is cheap nowadays.

Alex.
HP ProLiant ML310e with ESXI 6.0 license
Hello, I've just bought a HP proliant ML310e and installed the HP image for ESXI 6.0 (VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update1-3073146-HP-600.9.4.34-Nov2015.iso ). All is working fine, but using vSpehere windows clients when connect with the ESXI tell me "Your evaulation license will expire within 60 days. When the evaluation license expire, the ESXI host might stop managin all virtual machines .... In order to manage these machines you must obtain and assign a license to your ESXI host"
Strange situation with P400 and SATA (slow perfomance)
Hello!
Here is DL 380 G5 serve with :
1. SAS 75gb ( system and some data )
2. SSD sata hdd, 60 gb
3. SATA 320GB Hitachi desk star
All of this running under CentOS
The problem is
1. When I copy files ( > 1GB) from SAS to SSD it works wery fine
2. When I copy files (>1 GB) from SSD to SAS it`s also good
3. If I copy from any devices to SATA 320 firstly good speed ( 150 - 100 mb/sec) and then it degrade to 30 - 35 mb, and after some time can be 10 mb/sec.
If I put this disk to workstation and copy beetwean disks, everythink is OK. Reads from SATA 320 also OK.
I have tuned P400 with cli utility and enable all caches ( 25/75 also), but effect same. And writes to SSD SATA moves everytime with same speed.
Any coments ? )
Thank to all
