I have set an Administrator Password to the UEFI on the server, without install any operating system, but I have lost it, and I don't know how to reset the password.

I have cleared two times the NVRAM with the mainteinance switch in the board, I have remove the cmos battery, but nothing happened, the configuration of the UEFI resets but the password is still there.

¿Anyone know what to do or what can I try?

Thanks in advance

IBM disks on HP ProLiant? (U320)

I ran into eBay sell and the item had comment that [U320] disk has IBM firmware on it, and it might not work on other servers – can it really be like that? Or am I safer buying HP branded disks.

Thank you

Smart Array P410 RAID5 Expansion

Hi,
I would be highly appreciated obtaining any help for the following scenario.

We have HP ProLiant DL180 G6 server + Smart Array P410 (firmware 6.64, 256 MB, battery) + One RAID5 volume (7 SATA drives 1Tb + 1 SATA drive 1Tb as a hot spare).

We would like to expand existing RAID5 volume (and keep all data) by replacing all 8 SATA drives to 3 Tb SAS drives.

Is it possible to do this by replacing each drive one by one, waiting for complete rebuilding and finally expand volume by HP SSA? If so should we start from the hot spare drive, from the first RAID drive or it doesn’t matter?
Thanks!

Hello,
I need to replace a Xeon QC CPU on a ML350G5 server.

I was wondering if I need to use a CPU with the same part number (like for the mother board) or is not necessary.

Thank you.

X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update

Hi

We have recently moved to DL380 Gen9 servers from Gen8's. We use them in a manufaturing enviroment

with our own propriotary PCI-e cards. The cards functioned fine until we installed

BIOS firmware P89 V1.5 (07/20/2015)  in “HP Service Pack for ProLiant 2015.10.0(v10.0_1)”

We are now experiencing the following error during POST.

 -   HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 servers may hang at approx 83% during POST.

-  "X64 Exception Type 02 – NMI Detected" error displayed on (Post)

Note: The above issues may occur in either UEFI or Legacy boot modes.

Does anyone have any input on where I should begin in finding the cause/solution??

Thanks for any help on where to begin ( and no, picking a new card is not a option.)

While trying to install oracle linux 6.4 on HP DL160 GEn9, storage is not detected. This issue seems to be related to missing storage controller driver. Is there any possibility of merging the driver with the oracle linux 6.4 ISO? Please suggest me a solution.

Server 2008 R2 deployment on DL460c Gen9 in UEFI mode

$

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to deploy a standalone MDT build (Server 2008 R2 ENT x64) onto a Proliant DL460c server via iLO Virtual DVD Media (ISO) in the UEFI mode. The ISO boots up into WinPE properly, formats the drive with the GPT architecture and applies the operating system. When the server reboots back onto OS to carry on with the rest of the deployment I’m presented with a message prompt to insert CD/DVD media to continue the deployment. What I found out is that once the server is rebooted into OS, the mounted ISO is not present/visible, hence the deployment cannot reconnect back to the ‘build content’ to carry on with the build.

The ilo page (Virtual Media section) shows that media is connected. I can see the CD/DVD media is 'ticked' in the Virtual Drives within remote console, but it does not appear in the OS.

Also, the CD/DVD drive doesnt appear when I attempt to mount it manually.

The problem doesnt occur when the image is deployed in the BIOS Legacy mode. The above anomalies happen only when the deployment is performed in the UEFI mode.

The server/build details are below:

Build type: Standalone ISO Windows Server 2008 R2 ENT x64

Server model: Proliant DL460c Gen9

System ROM: I36 v1.40 (05/06/2015)

System ROM: Date 05/06/2015

Backup System ROM: I36 v1.32 (03/06/2015)

Integrated Remote Console: .NET Java

License Type: iLO 4 Standard Blade Edition

iLO Firmware Version: 2.20 May 20 2015

The ISO has been successfully deployed on a virtual environment in UEFI mode.

This has been driving me crazy for quite some time, and I think I ran out of ideas.

I would appreciate your ideas/suggestions.

Datastore / Disk latency problems with HP ProLiant G7 - HP Smart Array P410i controller " WARNING: LinScsi: SCSILinuxAbortCommands:1843: " and "Lost access to volume" (Still an issue with hpsa 5.5.0.114-1OEM )

We've been tracking this issue in the VMWare forums which I encountered fairly recently on my G7 series VMWare hosts when updating to Cookbook Release September 2015 for details you can follow that post here: https://communities.vmware.com/message/2562449#2562449

After updating a mixture of G7, G8 and G9 VMHosts to 5.5 update 3a and Cookbook release September 2015 (SPP JUN 15). I started having host errors specifically on my G7 hardware. One host went so far as to disconnect from VCenter.

I went the full boat update on the OS to bring it fully in line with HP's recipe. This was the first time hitting drivers in quite a while. So when the first errors started coming in, I immediately suspected the HPSA v106 ( Version:5.5.0.106-1OEM ) which was updated from v50 ( Version:5.5.0.50-1OEM)

VCenter is reporting errors

I opened tickets with both HP and VMWare

VMWare came back with the first fix which was to upgrade the hpsa driver(hpsa 5.5.0.114-1OEM) which can be downloaded from https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=DT-ESXI55-HP-HPSA-550114-1OEM&productId=353. however overnight , the errors returned. Same occurred with posted version 116

HP support suggested back revving to version 84 then 74 of the driver which failed. In the end we have tried the following versions of the driver which have failed 116, 114,84,74 and the last stable version was 60. This has been a long standing issue.

So in Summary

HPSA driver later than v60 driving a HP Smart Array p410 controller of any firmware vintage with a spare drive configured. The spare drive configuration seems to cause an i/o back-feed into the driver blowing it up at irregular intervals. This issue will not surface unless a spare drive is configured on the array controller.

Existing HP case # from VMWare Engineering is 4651641937   Feel free to jump on the boat this is a long standing issue

 Kindest Regards,

DGN

Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster crash after opening HP Network Configuration Utility

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and just have an urgend question to you.

Yesterday we had big trouble with two HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Servers.
Both server were installed with the SmartStart DVD 8.30. This was done 3 or 4 years ago. The servers have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and configured as a FileServer Cluster. Everything works fine so far.
Yesterday morning I did a short review of the configuration from the network interfaces. To do that I just opened the HP Network Configuration Utility (NCU). Till I click on the Icon in the task bar, the cluster service failed. In the event log I saw many entries about lost network addresses of the cluster.
Could someone tell me why this happens? How could it be that if I just open the NCU the cluster service crashes?
Does anyone have similar issues with MS cluster and the NCU?

Any comment/answer to this topic would be very nice and helpful.

Thanks,
tom

Debian on HP Proliant DL320e Gen8 v2: Hardware RAID not recognized.

Hi all, I have read a lot of documentation from HP (user manuals, specs, array storage manual, etc) so I have some knowledge of my Proliant server. I also have a great experience on debian, but I fail to master RAID issues.

I want to install debian on the aforementioned server, which is configured to use RAID 1 with the ACU utility.

The problem is that debian installer doesn't recognize the RAID configuration, althoug the cciss driver si loaded.

The configuration of the server is as follows:

  • BIOS - P80 - 3/28/2014
  • 1 procesors 4 cores, Intel(r) Xeon E2-1220 v3 @ 3.10GHz
  • HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i Raid controller (v3.54.0) in Embbedded Slot
    • SATA Array A. Logical Drive 1, configured as RAID 1
      • 4 TB SATA HDD 1|:1
      • 4 TB SATA HDD 2|:2

So far, I have the following questions:

* Must I install the propietary HP drivers (hpdsa-ubuntu) for debian to recognize the hardware RAID?

* If I rule out the hardware RAID and go on with sofware RAID, must I disable hardware RAID?

Thanks in advance.

G7 P410i Smart Array Advanced Pack

Hello!

We have server DL380 G7 with P410i controller. Our goal is to create RAID 6 array using this controller. We really need it.

It turned out that SAAP 1.0 license is required for that. But all our suppliers told us that this postion (part number) is no longer available for request so we can not buy this license.

All i can find on HPe site is interesting statement in HP SSA download description. It says "HP Smart Array Advanced Pack 1.0 and 2.0 features are now part of the baseline features of HP SSA, with the appropriate firmware."

Our controller is on current firmware 6.64(b). But it seems that is still have licensing engine and requires SAAP 1.0 license.

So what are HP plans for SAAP 1.0 license? Is it free? Is it going to be free? If yes - when? If nope - how we can buy it / what is replacement?

Thanks!

DL380 gen 4, processor problems

Fished me a Proliant DL380 of the 4th generation.
Brought it home, powered it up. No output on monitor, internal healt LED lights red. Opened it up, saw the CPU was not set as it should. (It was inserted but the lever to fix it was under the plastic tab, not above it. So it could be the pins were partially set in and partially not.) Setted it as it should be.
Restarted, still red light. LED on board indicates a faulty CPU. Resetted memory and VRM module just to eliminate that, result is still the same.

What else could I try?
I'm reluctant to buy a new CPU as I'm not shure if the MB itself is not faulty also. Would like to eliminate that possbility.

Greetings,
Eugen
