How is disk activity time calculated ?

$

Dear community,

When I run HP SMART Insights utility and diagnose my disks, it says that such disk has X months of activity.

Is activity = age ?

Suppose I bought a disk 5 years ago but only used it for 1 week, 2 years after it came out of the factory.

What would the activity time be : 1 week, 3 years or 5 years ?

Sorry if stupid question but we have some disks with 40+ months of activity we would like to know if the counting is simply current date - date of first usage or is the activity time calculated on actual I/O traffic..

Thanks for any answer.

SNMP and temperature data in Windows 2012 R2

Prior to upgrading our Proliant Gen8 server to Windows 2012 R2, I was able to get the temperatures of the system via SNMP by querying the IP address of the server (10.0.0.2).  After the install for Windows 2012 I get an error message "noSuchName at ObjectName(1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.6.8.1.4.0.1)"

So I reinstalled HPE Insight Management Agent, HP Agentless Management Service and HPE WBEM Insight but still can't query temperature via SNMP.  However, if I go query the iLO IP (192.168.0.222) I can get successfully query MIB 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.6.8.1.4.0.1.

Question: what component or setup I missing on Windows Server 2012 so I can query via SNMP the temperature readings from iLO interface using the server ip address (10.0.0.2)? I recall I had to fiddle with some setting when I first got this working prior to upgrading but I can't figure it out.

HP Proliant DL380 G7 faulty hard disk not picked up by any applications..

Hi

I wontder if anyone can help.

I have an HP DL380 G7 server running Vmware ESXi 5.5.0 OEM.  I noticed that one of the HDDs had developed a fault as the red light was on.  I had checked HP SIM (running on multiple servers), Veeam One monitoring, VMware client and web clients which neither had picked up the fault.  Luckily i noticed the light on the HDD myself.

Anyway, i have since spojken to HP chat and they advise i speak with enterprise and log a case: http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc? however it would appear we ned support contract with them,...

So im here now instead.

Anyone got ideas as to why this failed to work?

Thanks

HP H241: HPCISSS3 Event ID 5008 and 129 during backup to MSL2024

Recently I noticed HPCISSS3 events 129 in companion with 5008 in the Windows System Event log during backups,

The events indicate that a SCSI reset is being isued on the  H241 HBA to which a MSL2024 Library is connected.

This reset, offcourse, results in failing backups to the tape devices.

Anyone also noticed this behaviour ?

Server used is a DL360 Gen9 with a P441ar, a P441 with a D3600 and a H241 with a MSL2024

Server is running WIndows 2012 R2 with a recent SPP.

I have bought a HP SE316M1 server.

I cannot find any drivers for it.
I have found links on the Internet which link to the old hp.com site instead of hpe.com
I found that  HP SE316M1 servers are similar to HP DL160 G6 but there are important differences.
Does anybody know where to find drivers, manauls etcetera for SE316M1 servers?

HP SmartArray P420 "Ready for Rebuild" problem

$

Hi everyone.
As i have already searched the "big bad internet", and found that this error is verry bad in deed.
But my issue is a bit diffrent, that i actualy only have one failed drive.

I will try to keep things short:
My controller had a Fatal Error, 851, Controller lockup error: Restart the server and run a diagnostic report.
Install the latest version of the controller firmware. If the condition persists, the controller may need to be replaced or require service.
I got this error 2 times within one hour. Nothing happend after.
As the controller is only a month old, i contached HP support.

They got the ADU report, and agreed to send me a new controller.
So far so good.
The new controller arrived today, i changed it and ended up with a failed drive, "Port 2 Bay4".
Thinking, that the drive is defective, i drove down to our reseller, and got a new drive (The old one was out of warranty). Back home and put it in, but i STILL got a error.

Then i changed cables, power connectors, everything connecting the controller with the drives. Same error. Also i changed between port 1 and 2 on the controller.

Thinking that i only changed the controller to start with, i put in the partialy faulty one.
Now, everything wac back to before, except that tha raid now isent synkronized any more.

Queue the "Ready for Rebuild" message. And this is where i'm stuck now.
Looking at the new, and old ADU reports, i see one read error on Port 2 Bay 3 (Not 4 as before).

So what i have is a RAID that i can read, running degraded on 3 drives. One with a error, and a other that is unsync.

Is there any ninja tricks that might be able to help me?
I'm currently making a SPP bootable media, and i will try accessing the drive from here.

Any ideas at all, are verry welcome!

Thanks in advance.

HP Proliant ML150 Windows drive locked

hy,

I'm configuring a set of 5 servers to replace an industrial SCADA system.

Today we finally received the extra RAM sticks we ordered, to install those I powered down the servers and installed the RAM, no problem until the last server where I think the system wasn’t (completely) powered down. so probably I  just unplugged it while still running (Only realized it afterwards).

Now when I try to boot the system I will get the following screen (see attachment) telling me: "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again".

It seems like the drive is inaccessible, but the smart storage administrator doesn’t seem to give any errors or warnings.

I tried sfc /scannow and it told me it repaired some files but it didn’t solve the problem (did it have access to de drive somehow?)

Also unplugging one of the drives doesn’t seem to help, it recognizes the failed (unplugged) drive but still can't boot.

I guess it has something to do with the raid, but I’m not very experienced with this, so to not unrecoverable break the install I'm here to ask for help.

I really would like to not reinstall because it will involve getting the SCADA license renewed and based upon how long those guys take for basically anything it will cost us even more time we don't have.

I hope I have given enough information and someone has the solution, but feel free to ask for more details!

System information:

Proliant ML150 gen 9 servers
2x 500GB HDD in raid 1 (Sata drives on the SAS bus) (smart array with intelligent provisioning, used suggested settings)
operating system: Windows server 2012 R2 standard

kernel power

The server has rebooted four times twice a year, it's Proliant ML310eGen8v2, i have no smart array.  The server manger software (windows server 2008R2) says:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Do I have to install a patch o a new driver ?.

Moving RAID 10 array from a DL380 G6 to a DL380 G7

$

I have a server that I would like to move the RAID from one server to another so I can retire the G6.

For the most part, the data on the storage part of the array fine (RAID 10, 6 x 1.2TB), if It got lost, there is little on it.  But I would prefer to keep the OS alive drives (2 drives in RAID 1), it was set up as a backup windows 2012 R2 domain controller that is slated to go to a remote site.

If I keep the order of the drives, it is relatively "safe"?  Can I bring up the OS drives in first and then power down and put the rest of the drives in next?

Hello

I'm trying to install 4 - 4GB sticks of ram into a DL360 G7 that already has 4 - 4GB of ram. I tried various slots including

ABC DEG GH and also ABC DEF, but I still get a RAM error during post.

What would be the correct slots for 8 - 4GB sticks of RAM?

Thanks

I have an ProLiant DL360p Gen8 server which I want to control with ipmi.

When I try to run something against it it says:

ipmitool -I lanplus -H $ip -U $user -P $pass

However, the ip I am using is pingable.

It seems I don't have any authentication algorithm enabled.

ProLiant DL380 G6 - won't see drives after failure

$

I am new to HP and have taken over a server recently. It has an 8 drive bays.  They origianlly wanted to add drives to add space because they were out of room.  Then, after adding a spare drive to the array/logical drive, drive 7 of box 1 failed.  When we replaced the drive, it still reports Box1 : Bay 7 is bad or missing.  I tried having them put drives in Bay's 5 or 6 of Box 1 and they aren't recognized.  I don't get any error's from them in SSA.

Array A - Box 1 : Bay 1 and Bay 2 RAID 1

Array B - Box 1, Bays 3, 4, 8 and Box 2, Bays 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 RAID 5

We put a drive in Box 2 Bay 5 and it is currently unassigned.  When I choose Array A, I can assign it.  If I choose Array B, I don't get any choices to do anything.

The first spare drive, Box 2 : Bay 3,  was assigned to Array B and is currently flashing the green icon and listed as the assigned spare for Box 1 : Bay 7.

We tried to replace the failed drive in Box 1 : Bay 7 and it still says it is bad or missing.

I am doing this remotely and I appreciate all help

Storage Controller P420i

Hi

We recently upgraded the firmware on our DL 280p Gen server and now see HpCISSs2 errors on both servers.

I was able to eliminate the errors on one of servers by switching to High Performance but the second server still gets them occasionaly. Using performance monitor I can see these are causing I/O issues to a vm which uses the RAID assy connected to this server. The server that no longer has the errors  hardly uses the attached storage so maybe this is why I am not seeing any issues on this server.

One of the firmware updates was to the Storage controller P420i from 6.68 to 7.02. I've logged this with HP but I was wondering if anyon else is experiencing the same issue or not

Thanks
Laurie

Hyper-V on DL380 Gen 9 E5-2650V3

$

Hi.

I have a D380 G9 server with dual E5-2650 V3 CPUs running Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012R2 Standard. Everything is patched to the latest versions - Windows, BIOS, firmware, drivers etc. (spp2016040).

Without the hypervisor running, everything performs as expected.

When I run with the hypervisor and the default 'dynamic power saving' scheme which uses c-state c6, the cores on CPU0 all run at the correct speeds but the cores on CPU1 are all locked to multiplier x12 so always run at a very slow speed (1.16ghz).

So for example if I give a certain workload to cores on CPU0 it takes 13 seconds but the same workload given to cores on CPU1 takes 32 seconds.

If I disable the c-states by enabling the 'maximum performance' mode in the BIOS, the second CPU starts running at the correct speed although now I think the Turbo Boost doesn't work anymore - the workload takes 16 seconds in this mode (on either CPU) which is more than the 13 seconds it took before.

I tried the other c-states but c3 seems to be like c6 and c1e is a bit different - it slows down the last four cores of CPU0 leaving only 6 cores running at normal speed and 14 cores running slowly.

All this relates to running things on the Hyper-V host, not from within a VM.

I just need to know if this is expected for the E5-2600V3 CPUs and the only way to run Hyper-V with reasonable performance is to always use the power-hungry 'maximum performance' mode.
