Hello !

We have few servers who are showing HP Smart Array Controllers Display a False "Warning" Status Within VMware vSphere Management Console, and every thing is ok from iLO.

Attaching the VIB list from the ESX host ( ESX 5.5 )

Can someone please share the process, on getting the relevant VIB upgraded/downgraded to fix this ? and ofcourse the location to download the file.

Server Details - HP 660c G8

Firmware Version - 3.42

ILO Firmware version - 1.13  ( ILO 4 )

HP Storage Caching Settings (ESXi host)

I have 4 HP servers that run as my ESXi hosts. They are setup for RAID 1 (ADM) as they only run the ESXi hypervisor operating system. All my VMs run on a NETAPP SAN. I have gone into the caching settings on the RAID controller on the ESXi hosts and tweaked some settings. I have no idea if it's doing anything or what they really should be. I have added more read cache as a starter since the hosts aren't writing date very frequently ( I assume ).

What kind of settings would be optimal for the smart array caches on ESXi hosts. There is not really any information that i've found and it's annoying because I know these controllers are set to last or perform best in a wide array of scenarios but... what about MY scenario. What do I want them to set to when they're ESXi hosts. There are quite a few settings for adaptive failure, physical write cache, caching settings 10/90 for read and write. Do i want a 50/50 split on my ESXi host on the cache or do i still want the 10/90 split? Anyone who knows these things, please share the knowledge.

Move RAIDs from B120i to P410

Hi,

i have a easy question. A friend use a ML310e GEN8 v2 Server with build-in B120i Smart Array Controller (ver. 4.50) with four non-HPE SATA Drives (2TB, 6GB/s) within two different RAID 1 Volumes. Because of poor I/O Performance with the installed ESXi 6, we are thinking about a Smart Array P410 Controller with a 512 MB BBWC. I know, that this controller isn't officialy support by HPE for the server, but will work anyway.
My question is: Does the P410 recognize AND use the Meta-Informationen on the disks belong to the RAID Informationen from the B120i Controller?

Best Regards from Germany

Upgrading Firmware on OA & VC

Hello Guys !

Need to clear a confusion !

I am in the process of introducing G8 blades in an enclosure which has G5 blades right now.  In order to do that, I would have to upgrade firmware for OA as well as Virtual Connect.

Upgrade C7000 OA Firmware to version 3.60-4.50

Upgrade C7000 Virtual Connect to version 3.70-4.45

The question is - what is the best recommended order in which these upgrades should be done ? OA first and then VC ? or other way around ?

DL380 Gen9 UEFI Boot order gets reset after BIOS / ILO upgrade

Anyone else have the UEFI boot order get reset after upgrading the BIOS from 1.50 to 2.00 and ILO from 2.30 to 2.40 using the April 2016 HPSPP?  It has happened to me several times now on separate DL380 Gen9 boxes at different client sites.  It isn't an issue with Windows servers, but ESXi fails to boot because it doesn't use Windows Boot Manager, which gets put at the top of the list, then USB, then the NICs, and finally the Embedded RAID controller where the boot LUN is.  So of course, the ESXi hosts attempt to PXE boot.  Pretty annoying.

Hello everybody,

I am using the two NICs on the HP ML10v2 in IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic link aggregation with a Cisco SG300-28 switch, however the iLO shared NIC stops working in this mode and I don't know how to fix this under Debian 8 or Redhad 7 and would like some help.

How to add a physical serial port as COM1 to a HP ProLiant ML10 v2 server?

HP ProLiant ML10 v2 Server SN: CN65250CR1

Hello everybody,

I bought a bunch of HP ProLiant ML10 v2 servers to work as Ceph RBD cluster, to replace my HP ProLiant ML110 G7 cluster as they where making to much noise above 24 degrees Celcius and I could not fix it by replacing the termal paste or disabling iLO.

The older ML110 G7 came with a phisical serial port and a deditcated port for iLO (three NICs) and I was supprised to not find the serial port on the ML10 v2 and I looked at the motherboard and could not find a connector. I have used the HP Serial Port Adapter (PA716A) in the past to add a COM1 to HP system as we need this for our Debian 8 or Redhat 7 OS managment.

How do I add a serial port to the motherboard of the HP ML10 v2 server?

As a workaround I configured the iLO virutal serial port as COM1, but iLO is not reachable when the iLO shared NIC is in IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic link aggregation mode, I posted about this here:: http://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/How-to-get-HP-ProLiant-ML10-v2-ILOv4-shared-NIC-working-with/td-p/6861241

Also how to choose from which of the four installed harddrives to boot from?

ML10v2 Unrecognised HP Smart Memory

$

Hi,

I recently purchased a ML10v2 basic server (G3240 processor) which came with one 4G ECC unbuffered UDIMM (669238-071).

Reading throught the quick specs (http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04567802.pdf) I found on page 18 a list of memory upgrade options.

I've purchased two 8GB ECC unbuffered UDIMM's (815371-B21) listed in the quick specs.

However upon installing them (slot 2 & 4, 4G UDIMM now in slot 1) I see in the iLO that they are not being detected as HP Smart Memory.   Using the web-brower iLo I see "status" is "Good, In use" but "HP Smart Memory" says No and "Part Number" says N/A.  See attached.

Both modules were purchased from a local reputable HP dealer, part numbers and details matched stickers etc.   Security seals were intact.

The bios version on the motherboard is J10, which I believe is that current latest that supports VMWare ESXI.

This is something of a surprise, since having purchased what I believed to be Geninue HP Smart Memory, I wasn't expecting any issues or error reports etc.

Have I missed something?

/M.

ProLiant DL160 G6 CPU upgrade

want to upgrade the CPU's in my HP ProLiant DL160 G6 from the Intel Xeons L5630's to more capable ones, but I'm worried about the TDP, as the heatsinks are sort of small, it being a U1 rack server. I was looking at 6 cored ones with TDP's of 130 watts, and I was somewhat skeptical of 130 watts on the tiny heatsinks. Is there a larger heatsink option available or a rated TDP for the stock heatsinks?

I have 2 HDD 1 TERA each. I created Raid1 and used encryption manager then installed win server 2012 r2. the mirror worked fine but the encryption didn't work . i move the one of the 2 HDD to another pc and i can still open the files and read the data

the encryption details:

Encryption                                            Enabled                                                 in express local encryption, you cannot make any changes to the configuration settings

key managment mode                         local key managment mode

controller locked                                   unlocked

encryption physical drive count          0

is the encryption manager should encrypt the data on the 2 HDD and what can i do to encrypt the data so that i couldn't read it if i moved the hard to another server or pc?

How can I resolve this?

We have an old HP ProLiant DL350 G5 server. We bought it brand new in 2009 or so.

We've always renewed the maintenance support agreement because we've have had problems with it since day 1.

The system board was replaced at least 2 times and the power supply and backplane have been replaced probably around 5 times at this point.  The issue still hasn't been resolved.  I've reached out to everyone at HP and no one has an actual solution.

There suggestion is to buy a new server.  I found an HP Hardware Support Onsite Service PDF online and found the following information:

1.JPG

I've been trying to get HP to acknowledge that this server is faulty and for them to offer us a comparable server in exchange for this one.  HP doesn't want to budge.

The server reboots at random since we've had it.  It's not a software issue or a power issue.  I'm not sure what the issue is to be honest.  But the fact that we've been paying ~$500 every year to renew the support agreement on this server to protect ourselves, I feel we were sold a lemon of sorts.

I'm just so fed up and don't know who to turn to.  Obviously we can go out and replace the server but it's the principal of the matter.  HPE as a company should stand behind their product and do the right thing.  We've only bought HPE products and have been a loyal customer for many years.  Something like this clearly turns me off from HP as a whole and I'm reaching out one last time in hopes of the right person seeing this and offering a solution.

I don't want to name drop but the list of HPE employees I've been in contact with is vast and no one has helped.  It seems they simply do not care about our situation.

SNMP info from DL20 Gen9 server seems to be incomplete.

In particuar a Walk on the profile don't shows any info on:

Hard Drive status (on ML350 G6 was .1.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.2.5.1.1.6.2 )

Power supply status (on ML350 G6 was .1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.9.3.1.4.0)

It seems to be a partial management of MIBS (in particular branch 1.3.6.1.4.1.232 is not present).

The standard MIBS reated to LAN status are instead correct (.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.8)

ProLiant DL380 G7 HDD SNMP Temp values stuck

Hello,

I'm charting HDD temps from SNMP values. I'm using .1.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.2.5.1.1.70 to grab HDD temps.

However, after a very short period of time (if not instantly) the SNMP values get "stuck" and do not move whatsoever. A SNMP service restart solves this for a short period of time before getting stuck again.

I got the latest MIBs from HP and using iReasoning MIB browser to manually check the values. My charting software isn't lying. Any ideas?
