Wondering if 85C would be considered a normal operating temperature for P440 controller?
Thanks

ML350p Gen8 Noise

My ML350p Gen8 has been making disturbing noise in a strange pattern. Two of the three fans installed are spinning in a pattern like this
6% for a few secs→goes up to more than 20%→goes down to 6%→goes up and repeat.
The other one sticks to 6%.
I am really annoyed by the noise, and I have to put the device in my own bedroom.
Actually I don't mind if all the fans are spinning at a constant 20%, which has a bearable loudness, but the process of fans spinning up makes a disturbing siren-like noise.
I just disabled PCIe 3.0 support for the integrated P420i controller, the pattern continues, but the fans goes up to about 15%, much better.
Here's my system configuration.
1*E5-2670 stepping C1
4*DDR3 ECC Reg 4GB 1333MHz RAM by Kingston
1*500GB Seagate Pipeline (controller Channel A Port 1)
1*2TB Seagate Desktop (controller Channel B Port 1)
No PCI express devices attached
OS is Server 2012 R2
All firmwares are up to date with Intelligent Provisioning the exception, which is version 1.62 instead of 1.62b.
Any ideas on how to completely solve this problem?
BTW the fans spinning up are fan 3 and fan 4, which are at the lower half of the device, where the P420i controller is located. I guess this strange pattern has something to do with P420i, wonder if I can put an LSI HBA on the device and disable P420i.

HP Proliant DL180 G6 LO-100 PW Reset/Enable Usernames through IPMIUTIL

Hey guys,

I bought a used server and it looks like all but one of the user accounts are disabled according to IPMIUTIL. I was wondering if anyone would know a way to enable the other users through this tool or if someone had a good explanation of how to do it through IPMITool. Although I would prefer IPMIUTIL.

DL380 G5 CPU upgrade from dual core to quad core not working

I currently have a single Xeon dual core 5130 in my system (DL380 G5).  I also have the board supporting up to the quad core 5430's (436526-001).  I have attempted multiple 5430's and VRM's out of working systems, but none will boot.  The fans run at high RPM, and no video is present.  iLO still functions.  Replacing with the 5130 again, it boots fine.

Steps taken:

I have completed a full ROM upgrade using the HPE SPP from 2016.

I have attempted one 5430 and VRM at a time, or both.  I have attempted 4x VRM's (known working) and 3x 5430's.

I have reset NVRAM and iLO.

Any ideas?  I would be able to bump up this system from a single dual core 2.0ghz proc to 2x quad core 2.6ghz procs, which would be a HUGE performance jump.

Changing the existing Logical Drive Stripe Size and RAID type one by one ?

$

Hi All,

My predecessor has made some mistake in the planning and the deployment of the large backup server which has caused the backup process to runs very slow.

So now my goal here is to reconfigure everything to the Veeam Backup Best practice. But I can only allowed to do it manually partition by partitionnot destroying the whole production backup.

  1. How can I change the existing Logical Drives RAID type from RAID50 and RAID6 into just RAID 5 ?
  2. Regarding the Stripe / Full Strip Size, how can I change it to use the largest value possible ?

Note: I'm running on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Any help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ML350 G5 mix and match options

Greetings all,

Hope this finds you well.

So, we were recently 'gifted' some ML350 servers from an offsite location.  I currently have all Dell gear in my shop and have no hands-on with HPE gear so, here I am looking to you.  :)

I have 4 ML350 servers, 1 G4 and 3 G5.  What I want to do is make one decent machine out of it..

I'm focusing on the 3 G5 boxes at this point as they are all identicle: 2GB RAM, Xeon 5130 (single proc), and 8 bay, 2.5" HDD cage.

I want to pull all the RAM into one box, double up on the CPU, and double up on hte HDD cage.

My questions: what do I need hardware/software wise in order to do this?  I know I need a PMM to load up the 2nd processor but can I actually use a second HDD cage and 8 more drives natively?  Can I pull the RAID expansion card from the G4 (HP SMART ARRAY 642 CONTROLLER (012591-000) in the G5 to accomodate the second cage?

A lot of questions, but I'm trying to work with what I have as money is non-existent. (At least according to the folks that make way more that me...)

Thanks everyone.

Cheers,
MC

esata card for HP ML350P Gen8

$

I need a hot pluggable esata interface on a HP ML350P server running Windows 2008 R2 server. I have tried using the Startech PEXESATA2, which I have used succesfully on a HP DL380P Gen8, but this is not detected on the ML350P (does not appear in device manager). On Startech advice have tried the PEXESAT32, but the server crashes to a blue screen with the message NMI:Channel Check/IOCHECK. Has anyone succesfully got an eSATA card working on this server, and if so what type?
