Boot Configuration Data file is missing... Help! - HP Proliant ML30 Gen9

Hi,

couple weeks ago I bought a new server to my company, and installed Server 2012 Foundation to it. Also, using Intelligent Provisioning, I enabled RAID 10. When OS was installed, I changed DVD-drives letter from D to E, and then in disk management I created new volume, D (labeled Data). Through Windows Update service I think almost every available update was installed.

This server is going to replace our old ML310, which is still doing its task. Today I booted our new server, but as you can see in attachment, it didn't boot. I can't understand what happened. It says BCD file is missing... No changes has been made in a week. Last time I just shutted the server down.

I tried to use "bootrec" commands in recovery environment's command prompt screen, but it didnt help (commands I found from another forums, I dont know do they only work in consumer pc's). Also, using automatic repair with installation DVD didnt help (through recovery environment). I then decided just to install all again, and just an hour ago I finished with fresh OS.

The problem is: How can I now for sure, that this doesnt happen again? When this server is in full usage and all the data and software are in, it really it a major disaster when the server doesnt boot and I cant get it to work. Please, do you guys know, how can I prevent this from happening? If its not possible to surely prevent it from happening, what can I do that for sure will help should this happen again? This really bothers me, I even cant imagine the frustration if this happened after the software and data are installed and we rely to this server. (+ the installation process also means our partners involvement, we pay them to install their software to our server. Its really expensive... So I must be sure, that my servers boots when necessary!)

I have to be 100% sure, that if this happens when the server is in use, I can get past this problem!

Please, if you have any info.. Im so grateful! Thanks!

Disk array raid 5 rebuilding failed

Hi,

I have a raid5 disk array problem on ProLiant DL160 G5. Few days ago, one of the disk in the array went down, so I replace it with a new one, and the controller start to rebuild it. But everytime when the process in about 67% it will stop. The ACU(Array Configuration Utility) will show the array is Ready to Recovery. After I reboot the system, it will show the rebuild is aborted when the initialize and ask me enable the auto recovery. After enter ACU, it starts rebuilding once again from 0%

I have 4 hard disk in the array. Each one of them is 250 GB. The one I replace is bay4, but I replace it with a 1TB hard disk. I run ACU with CD-ROM.

Did anyone know what's wrong when recovery? Thanks for your help.

HP DL80 Gen9 and HP Smart Array P410 Controller

Hello,

- I have just bought HP DL80 Gen 9 (Dynamic Smart Array B140i), HP Smart Array P410 Controller ( no battery) and 4 SATA HDD. For testing, I configure RAID 1 on built-in Dynamic Smart Array B140i then install W2k12 and it's worked.

- To configure RAID on P410, I disable B140i and on HP Proliant Boot screen, Smart Array is not checked as Pic 1 and RAID CONTROLLER P410 is not showing in System Configuration as Pic 2. To create RAID on P410 then I use Intelligent Provisioning and Smart Storage Administrator as Pic 3. I had created RAID 1 on P410 and install Win2k12 on it, windows installation process is completed but after restarting it could not boot. I think it have problem boot in windows, I use Windows Repair but it not found any OS. I also create RAID 0 on P410 but could not boot.

On UEFI:
+ P410 could not access Array Utility as Pic 5

On Legacy Bios:
+ P410 could access Array Utility as Pic 5

I don't know whether P410 is compatible with DL80 or not ? or is P410 only support Legacy boot ?

Anyone can help me fix problem ?

Thank you. I appreciate your help

How to find SPP Version on ESX Server

Hello !

I know that finding SPP version is kind of tricky - I am not even sure if we would be able to find it - but have any of you folks been able to find out how to find the installed version ? (so that upgrade can be planned ? )

Something similar to looking at

Run->C:\CPQSYSTEM\log->In file cpqsetup.log->Search for HP Insight and in the

Last search you will get name "HP Insight Diagnostics Online Edition for Windows"

The above stands true with systems with MS OS installed - but what if ESX is installed ??

I have been so far relying on the following >

HP system management Homepage -> Click on Software version /Version control -> Check HP Insight Management Agents version

Is the above the only method to find the SPP version ? Or any file within the ESX OS which holds the information ?

HP Proliant ML370 G6 RAID battery pack Problems

Hello HPE members,

My HP Proliant ML370 G6 server went down and could not boot again, when i try starting it, all the DIMM LEDs stay ON - soild green, the System Health LED solid red and there was a long beep. I later was able to single out the BBWC Battery pack. I got a spare pack and replaced it and booted the server successfully, but the system Health light stayed ON solid red, with DIMM bank A1 staying ON solid Green. I let the server run for just below an hour as i checked if all my files were intact. Later i decided to shutdown the server so that i can check and re-seat the memory. After doing this i restarted the server but now again the initial problem started again - server cannot boot all the DIMM LEDs stay ON soild green, the System Health LED solid red with a long beep.

Kindly assist as i am now back again to square 1 and stranded. Is there any other cause other than the battery pack that i am not picking, or is there special notes that i should have considered before replacing the battery pack

Your asistance is highly appreciated .

Many thanks

I have a brand new HP Proliant DL380 Gen9 server that I am getting an error message in the Device Manager that I can't get resolved.  HP Baseboard Management Controller IPMI Device error states "The device cannot start Code 10"  "The I/O device is configured incorrectly or the configuration parameters to the driver are incorrect".  This server has a fresh build of Server 2012R2 and have ran the Proliant Service Pack 2016.10.0_1 which should have installed the latest drivers.  If anyone can help me resolve this error, I would greatly appreciate it.

Proliant 1600 server hangs when saving system configuration

I have not found anything searching for this issue. My proliant 1600 server was downed in anticipation of a power outage.

When I brought it back up,  got the error: 172-system configuration nonvolatile memory invalid. According to everything I find, this due to a failed Cmos battery.

Installed external replacement battery, went through system configuration. When I hit save, it goes to "please wait", and then hangs there, no matter how long I wait. I Reset VRAM through system configuration utility. Also tried reseting VRAM though #6 Jumper. No change, still hangs on "please wait" after pressing save at the end of system configuration. Also tried resetting cmos battery which cleared all settings but still hangs. Every things runs fine untill save option is hit.

The new SPP 2016.10.0 firmware update seems to cause the diagnistics test for Total Memory to fail repeatedly for Proliant DL380 G7 and G9 models. However, running the automatic firmware update a second time seems to resolve the issue.

ML350 G6 fan replacement

Hi! I have a ML350 G6, and I'm working on replacing the stock fans with something more silent, and so far I have bought Noctua PWM, and modifeid the 4-pin connector to fit the 5-pin HP connector. This is working, as far as system reading fan speed and status. ILO reports all OK, and runs fine if I replace only the 3rd system fan, and leaves fan 1 and 2 with stock. When I replace the fan near the cpu heatsink, ILO still reports all OK, and all temperatures are fine, even maybe lower than before. The weird thing is that the fans starts running at 10% at boot, and slowly increases, 1% at a time. It has been running for 50 minutes now, and has reached 70%. Does anyone know why it increases the speed, even if temperatures are OK? The noctua fan has lower rpm than stock, so rpm is lower than what the system expects, but does this affect the fan speed output from system? I would think that temperatures would be the input to the fan controller, but obviously also the rpm feedback is used as well. Will the system shut down when it reaches 100%? Can the feedback be manipulated someway, so the system thinks the fan is running as expected? If it will reach 100%, and not shut down, I will try to swap the last fan as well, and maybe the new fans at 100% won't be as noisy as the stock fans at 30%.
I have latest ILO version, 2.29, and bios version D22 3.1.2010.

Hi all,

I am newbie in HP Proliant Troubleshooting and I am facing an issue with my windows server 2003 that I have to sort out by repairing the system with CD of windows server 2003. I can boot on the CD but it shows me blue screen BSOD error with error 0X000000007B when after it finishes to load file for installation. I read on differents forum that I have to disable IDE from BIOS but I can't even access in BIOS. I just have two options while starting the server F10 (ROM Based) and F12(PXE Boot). Can someone help me to sort out how I can get inside BIOS setup and disable that option IDE.

Best Regards,

Elbap
