HP Proliant DL580 G5: Uncorrectable Memory Error (System Memory, Memory Module 8)

Server shut down "unexpectedly" at 3:15 AM Tuesday Feb 28th.  No smoking gun in Windows Event Log or System Management Console, but titile error was found via HP tools in Integrated Management Log (IML).

So I ran Insight "online" diagnostics, and it turns out there is no DIMM in Module 0 Slot 8, and all the other DIMMs (10 of them) check out fine.  System has 20 GB of total RAM, BTW.  Only thing Diagnostics showed was a bad 73.4 GB HDD in Physical Hard Drive 3 (I believe this is RAID 1?, which means it'll run as long as two HDDs are OK?)

This server was commissioned in 2008.  Running Windows Server 2003 SP 2 Build 3790.

Is Memory Module 8 actually the 8th DIMM, because if I count off the DIMMs, which are not in consecutive slots, the 8th DIMM is in slot 10, and when I run a compare between configurations, it highlights DIMM 10

I noted the below when I reboot the PL 380 G8 server. What should I do? Our service provider doesn't find any disc error.

I treid different PCIe slotst without success, i have also installed the latest bios (Version:2.30_09-12-2016 (A) (25 Oct 2016) ). Had anyone similar issues?

Bl460c G9, B140i RAID controller not recognising 400G, NVMe drives, only 64Gig.

Hi,

In the end we want to load RHEL6.6 x64 onto a BL460cG9 server, onto these 2x 400gig disks in it's entirity. (RAID 1).

When configuring the RAID array via the HP Dynamic Smart array controller (B140i) to be RAID 1, it only seems to recognise 2x 64Gig drives before the logical drive creation. But they are actually 2x 400G NVMe drives. Why is this so ?

I have actually installed RHEL 6.6 x64 onto these 2x 64gig drives via a HPDSA 1.2.x driver on bootsucessfully but wondering why we cant see the entire disk (400G) via the internal RAID controller GUI. Any ideas ?
FYI - We are loading the OS onto these via a net boot UEFI sucessfully at present, but only needed for the install. Also have applied the latest SPP (late 2016) previously, F/W olny.
Thanks
Adrian

I have 24GB RAM in server.  Does anybody know, which maximum value is acceptable for this server ?

Problem with HP MicroSvr Gen8

Hello.

I have problem with HP MicroSvr Gen8. I can't perform OS installation. When I try to perform Intelligent Provisioning ("Configure and Install"), I have error message "There are no physical disks attached - you will need to attach a supported drive to continue'. When I try to perform "Perform Maintance" - "HP smart storage administrator (SSA)" I have warning 'There are no configurable physical drives attached to the current array controller". I try to attach USB-flash with OS Linux and load using this USB-flash and in this case I have error message "Firmware bug: the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources (MSR 38d is 330)". How to solve this problem? Latest Service Pack present.

Настройка сервера HP MicroSvr Gen8

Добрый день.

У меня такая проблема с установкой операционной системы на сервер HP MicroSvr Gen8. Сервер новый и "чистый", т.е. никаких дополнительных дисков нет. Все попытки установить на него хоть какую-то OS с помощью Intelligent Provisioning оказываются безуспешными, поскольку при входе в режим "Configure and Install" появляется сообщение, что нет подключенных дисков: "There are no physical disks attached - you will need to attach supported drive to continue". При входе в SSA появляется такое же сообщение и  Dinamic Smart Array B120i не позволяет сконфигурировать диски. Я записал на USB-флешку Linux и попытался загрузить его. Появилось сообщение Firmware bug: the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources (MSR 38d is 330). Как можно решить эту проблему?

HP Proliant DL 165 won't boot after CPU upgrade

I have a DL 165 I purchased off of Ebay, I decided to upgrade the CPUs in the machine to the 6276's which show compatible on the spec sheet from HP's website but the machine will not POST. The monitor doens't even turn on. I'm told this may be due to needed a new BIOS/Firmware upgrade but these are behind a paywall. Since I'm just a home user, I don't believe I should need a contract or warranty for a 3.8MB file.

Is there another way to get this file? SP59838.exe

Perhaps Im going about this all wrong and there's something else I need to do to get these processors to boot the machine?

Thanks,

Jeff

HP ML110 G9 (838503-001) Stopped Powering On 24 hours Out Of The Box

Had something frustrating happen to me today. I just purchased an HP ML110 G9. I was able to power it on out of the box. Got as far as installing ESXi 6.5 and booting from internal USB stick. Worked like a charm for hours as I configured ESXI. Shut the server back down and unplugged to install a second USB drive stick. Splugged server back up. Pushed the power button. Power button stays green for 3 seconds then goes back to standby mode.

Not flashing amber or red lights. Not red lights flashing on the motherboard. Power supply light is green. There's a green light flashing on the motherboard by the CR8 indicator. But that's it. I have taken out both USB sticks and tried to power it up. Same thing.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

HP Proliant DL380G7 crashed with error message: "uncorrectable pci express error"

Good day!

Our server HP Proliant DL380G7 crashed with error message:

"uncorrectable pci express error (embedded device, bus 0, device 0, function 0, error status 0x00000000)"

Server worked for ~300 days before that. Server was restarted and problem still not happened.

I inversigated:

1) https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/Proliant-DL380-G7-Fatal-PCI-Express-Device-Error-PCI-B00-D00-F00/td-p/5313433

In that post problem happened only at boot.

2) https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/DL380p-Gen8-with-uncorrectabl-PCI-express-error/td-p/5995669 - 380p G8

In that post different Device and Function. Also server's model is different so recommendation to update system ROM does not fit.

3) https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/PCI-Bus-Error-Slot-0-Bus-0-Device-0-Function-0/td-p/4736039

It’s also different model of server.

Please help what to do? How to prevent server from crashing?

Attached iLO log with error.

System firmware version is 22/06/2010.

nVidia K2200 interface for Proliant part number

$

 Hello,

I would like to know if the nVidia K2200 interfaces for proliant and workstation are really different.

We have an interface (see photo below) with several stickers and both spare part numbers of the J3G88AA (workstation) and J0G89A(proliant) figure on the back of the interface.

J0G89A has spare part number 783874-001

J3G88AA has spare part number 765148-001

The latest nVidia Quadro K2200 Firmware Flash Utility refers to version 82.07.79.00.1A (may 2016) for WS 2012 R2. The save version figures on one of the sticker at the back side of the interface.

Referring to the photo, do we have an interface for workstation or for proliant or can we use it for both worksation and proliant ?

Thanks in advance for any help

[DL380p G8] Best practice for swapping hard drive

$

Hello,

I'm basically the accidental sysadmin for our small organization and am, therefore, basically a novice when it comes to matters of server/hardware configuration.  In other words, I'm learning as I go.

We are currently running a DL380p G8 server (the first one we've run with hot-swappable drives).  It has 5 drives configured in RAID 5 with one hot spare on standby.  Currently, one of the active drives has a drive status light flashing amber/green indicating it is predicted to fail.

Here's my question:  What is the best practice for addressing this failing drive?  Should I hot swap it out with a new drive?  Wait for it to fail and allow the hot spare to take over?  Some other option?

Also are there any other concerns to consider prior to taking action?

Secondary question: The System Health LED is flashing amber.  Could this be because of the drive or is it likely to be something else?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions and advice you can give.  Please let me know if there is any additional information that would be helpful.

Thanks!

-Adam

DL380 Gen 9 rack rail kit holes too small for threaded rack

$

I have two DL380 Gen 9 2U servers and their included rack mounting kits, part number 729870-002. Our server rack is a classic threaded round hole type.

After removing the inserts as instructed in the guide, I discovered the hole on the front of the rail kit are just barely too small to hold the screws we use in our rack. The rear mount on the rail kit fits OK.

I was going to attempt to drill out the holes on the rail kit, but before going to such dramatic lengths thought I'd better check to see if maybe I have the wrong part somehow.

Here is the front bracket with the holes which are too small, as if there's some sort of insert in them:

20170306_223049558_iOS.jpg

And the rear bracket is fine:

20170306_223156366_iOS.jpg

It appears that with significant force I could split the two laminated halves of the front bracket apart and hopefully clear the holes, but I'm not sure that's going to resolve it.

Should I break out the drill, or is there some other solution I'm missing here?
