Hello everyone.

I want to install Windows Server 2016 on my HP Proliant DL160 GEN9 server.

Before installation I had upgraded the ROM to U20 2.30 (09/12/2016). Downloaded the ISO image from microsoft site (6.52 GB 14393.0.161119-1705.RS1_REFRESH_SERVER_EVAL_X64FRE_EN-US).

During the installation it indicates the following error:

Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.

Help, please.

Hello, I found a deal on some ram but my current server has M393B5673EH1-CH9Q1 ram and the online one is M393B5673EH1-CH9. Is there any differences here? Because I can't find any. Thanks!

ProLiant G8 ML350P video / graphics card power.

Dear all,

I have installed an AMD RX480 in my ML350p gen8 server. The problem is with power supply to the card. It works fine when connected to one of the white slot / plug on the motherboard, but not when connected to one of the specific video cards slot. This is quite anoying as it uses a normal slot that I would otherwise use for another purpose.

Any idea ?

PS: I have two 1200W Platinium Plus power supplies, which are way enough.

Many thanks,

Thomas

HP Proliant ML350 G6 Dispaly resolution problem in RHEL 7.2

Dear all,

I ahve been using the HP Proliant ML350 G6 server for some time with RHEL 6.5 . It has got ATI ES 1000 onboard graphics controller. With RHEL 6.5, I was able to get better resolution (around 2K may be). Recently I have installed RHEL 7.2 in this server. But now the display resoultion has come down to 1024x768 (best case) and one more option(800x600) only available to select from. I have tried to add the resolultion manually by the command

> xrandr --addmode default "1680x1050_60.00" but it has come out with message

> xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default.

Can any body suggest me the soultion for the above error or can guide to buy a new graphcics card whcih is compatible to this server.

HPE Smart Array Firmware Version 5.04: a clarification about Offline versus Online update.

Hello all,

on the recent HPE Customer Notice a00007847en_us about "Update to Smart Array Firmware Version 5.04 to Correct Intermittent Controller Lockup Issues", there is an important statement about HPE Smart Array Firmware update's procedure to follow to ensure that new Firmware is activated with all controller cache's data already properly flushed:

"HPE strongly recommends that this firmware update be performed in an offline environment.

If this firmware update is performed online, ensure a graceful shutdown or restart is performed in order to flush all data from the controller cache before the new firmware is activated.

Abruptly rebooting the system while there is data in cache might result in data loss."

Since I know abrupt power off events but I'm not aware of any abrupt reboot events (if a system goes down due to an abrupt power outage it should then stay down)...does the recommendation above mean that if I'm going to do the online Firmware update procedure instead of the suggested offline one (which I presume should be performed using the latest HPE SPP 2017.04.0) it will be sufficient to ensure that the physical Server is gracefully rebooted (through the OS reboot, as example) immediately after the Firmware update patch executable (which ran at OS level) exits?

In other terms, while offline Firmware update procedure is recommended, if the online one if performed with a consequent proper graceful (planned) OS reboot, that will be good and safe enough?

ProLiant Ml350 G5 48/64GB RAM

Hello,

i have bought 4x 8GB Sticks of RAM for my Proliant ML350 G5.

I know quickspecks says that it will support max of 32GB RAM.

But on this site it says it will support 64GB because of the new 4 and 8GB DDR2 Modules.

http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00726306&sp4ts.oid=1121586

"Maximum memory capacities for all AMP modes will increase with the availability of 4 GB and 8 GB FBDIMMs, including a maximum of 64 GB in Advanced ECC mode."

On eBay they sell ML350 Servers with 64GB RAM.

So my problem is the following:

I put the 32GB RAM sticks in and added 4x 4GB sticks, now it will show 49XXXMB RAM in BIOS but at startup it only shows 32GB.

So how can i fix this? I already installed newest BIOS.

Hi People,

I've been trying to provision a new Proliant DL20 Gen9 using the intelligent provisioning 2.50. When I try to select the operating system files (Windows Server 2016 Essentials on a USB drive) I get the error "Windows Server 2016 Essentials not supported", despite it being a supported OS for that system?

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Matt.

I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to hot plug and hot unplug PCI-X devices in HP DL380 Gen9 Servers.

I've seen mention of an option riser, but only for like Gen4 servers.

Does anybody know what options we have?

HPE Microserver gen8 SEAGATE 2Tb green HDD incompatibility

Hi guys,

Just wonder if someone encounter and was able to resolve Seagate HDD incompatibility with HPE Microserver gen8.  Server updated to the last BIOS / ILO. HDD mode is AHCI. Disk firmaware is not need updates according to Seagate firmware utility. Server have two installed WD greens that working as they should for two years already.

When I add Seagate Green disk, it is not working as expected. It either start to power on and off with "parking" loud sound, losing access eventually and hanging system. Or it work for a while, and then starting act as previsosly described. I have two such disks I planned to use, both does not work reliable.

Disks are complete fine, they work flawless on any onther system, including Gen9 HPE servers. Sadly I can't install RAID card, as PCI-e slot already occupied by network controller.

If this is a dead end, hope this post help someone else with such problem.

DL 380G8 - NIC card at 1GB/10GB ?

Hello Guys,

I have a DL 380G8 server running with RHEL 6.2.

Controller is "Hewlett-Packard Company NC552SFP 2-port 10Gb Server Adapter"

I got the following from our Linux OS team, stating that they are not able to change the speed to Auto Negotiate or to 1GB ( RHEL support team said that the speed cant be changed – its hard coded) , and are getting the error “Not Permitted”  -

Does the below look  OK ?  Can we change the speed to 1GB ? (as the switch only supports 1GB link)
