esxi 6 problem on G7

$

We have some DL380 G7's I'm trying to install ESXi 6.0 U3 on. The servers are working fine and fully up to date with all firmware. The RAID controller is a standard P410i.

All the drive bays are full as follows

Bay 1/2 : 2 x HP 72GB SAS (RAID1)

Bay 3/4/5/6/7/8 : 6 x HP 300GB SAS (RAID5)

I'm using the HP custom image of ESXi 6 U3 from Feb 2017, but have also tried the standard VMware one.

When installing ESXi, the process will hang at the message 'vmkibft loaded successfully' and not get any further. After much testing, I found if I remove the RAID5 array from the system, so I just have the RAID1 disks, everything works perfectly and the install completes ok. Re-enable the RAID5 array, and the boot process hangs again at the same place. Research has shown this is a common problem, and affects ESXi 5.5 as well on the same hardware. There was no single fix though from what I could find.

Is there *any* solution to this? It's massively frustrating when I just need to install ESXi which is normally a very quick process.

Thanks

Second Processor in ML330 G6 not working

Hi there!

I recently mounted the 2nd CPU board to my ML330 G6 in my homelab.

However, it seems the board is defective because it detects the CPU but always tells me CPU error and the second CPU is not enabled (also red LED at the front panel starts flashing during late POST).

I already pulled my hair trying to get it to work and tried everything (BIOS update, BIOS reset, Firmware updates, re-seating, various memory configurations, swap CPUs, ...). The CPUs are both pulled from another server so they worked together in one system already, are the same type and stepping and I also swapped them and always the CPU in the 2nd socket is not working (212 POST Error, CPU 2 failed).

If I populate the memory the wrong way, the LEDs on the mezzanine board light up so it definitely has some good connection to the motherboard - also the 2nd CPU is detected but disabled due to some error.

If I don't connect the power cable of the mezzanine board, the server doesn't even turn on (turns off again within 1 second) so the mezzanine board isn't entirely dead...

The CPUs are both Xeon X5650.

Any idea if I might be missing somethiing or do you think that the CPU board is defective?

Thanks!

Do you know/remember if this mezzanine board has been pulled from a working server? Do you have any idea what I might try?

Cannot install windows svr 2012 R2 on HP DL380 G9

I'm trying to install windows server 2012 R2 on a physical svr HP DL380 G9 using Hp inteligent provisioning ver 2.50.164 but when windows installing I got this error "Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation"

If I install svr 2012 R2 directly from the CD not using Inteligent provisioning it's success  or if I install windows 2k8 R2 using inteligent provisioning, it's also success.

How can I fix this error?

i have been reading threads about the fans going crazy because the temperature sensor #29 is high, but the disk i installed are non-hp so they may be a little more temperature intensive.

is there any way to raise the limits or disable the sensor?

ProLiant DL320 G6 ilo2 ver 2.29 looses connection

Sitting and trying to install a ProLiant DL320 G6, but the iLO looses connection all the time. (while I am still able to ping other nodes on the same subnet as the Proliant.

My idea is that the server loops on a reboot causing the iLO to loose link (it is a shared NIC). Does this make sence? Can I avoid it in any way? The server is in another country than me, so I can't get a physical hold on it.

ProLiant DL320 G6 Windows 2016 support

Is it possible to install Windows 2016 on a ProLiant DL320 G6? On the download support for the server there are no drivers for Windows 2016, and when I try just to boot on the Windows 2016 installation USB, it tells me that there are no drives to install it on (but there are two sata driver in a RAID on an HP Smart Array B110i SATA controller.

When I download a Windows 2012 driver for the controller, I am then able to find and partition the disk, but when I select it for installation, it tells me that I cannot use the disk, maybe because it is not included in the boot order (or something similar) I am not able to enter the the BIOS (as indicated in my prior post) via iLO.

Regards, Lars.

Microserver Gen 8

Hello!

I have 2 Microservers Gen 8. Both are the same Product ID and updatet with SPP 2016.10. In Ilo System Information - Device Inventory the integrated Networkadapter 332i is shown as HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332i Adapter #2. Both are running Server 2012R2. All other Microservers Gen 8 we have have the same patchlevel but they are showing the 332i correct HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332i Adapter.

What could be wrong?

Restore ML10 on AC Power loss and graceful shutdown

I have three new HPE ML10 gen9 servers and one older HP ML10 V2 connected to a APC Smart-UPS 750 with a AP 9631 Network Management Card and PowerChute Network Shutdown. Working on battery works fine and will in the end perform a graceful shutdown. The problem comes when power returns as the system seems configured to "Last state" when it ought to be "Power on".

I have entered the Intel® Aptio Setup Utility and the Intel® MEBX during boot and searched for a Restore AC Power loss configuration menu on the ML10 gen9, but can't find any. Have not yet tried on ML10 V2. I really hope there is such a setting on the gen9 server and would be very suprised if not!

Any help in this matter will be appreciated!

HP Proliant Microserver boot, but no display or network

$

Hi all,

I've had an HP Proliant Gen8 Microserver running a headless Ubuntu Server for the last couple of years without issue.
Recently however the server stopped responding and stopped showing up on the connected devices list of our router.
As I was unable to remote into the machine, I tried the steps below:

  • Restarting both the server and the router to no effect
  • Connecting directly to the server's iLO and LAN ports directly with a laptop over link-local, but the server does not appear to be assigning itself an address to connect to when sending a link-local broadcast ping from the laptop
  • Connecting the server's iLO port to the router instead, this didn't show up in the connected devices list on the router either
  • Removed all HDDs, attached a monitor and keyboard and attempted to boot to BIOS. Even with frantic mashing of all F* keys the server beeped twice to indicate a "successful boot" but no display is output even while booting

At this point I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. I want to try resetting the BIOS via the CMOS jumper, but I can't find a correct schematic or relevant notation on the system board and obviously don't want to go poking around blindly.

I also can't find the official product ID for contacting HP support? The only two IDs I have are G1610T from the supplier and 712317-421 from the rear of the machine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,

Martin

Verifying ASR status is disbaled

The purpose of ASR is to restart the HP ProLiant server once it is determined that the system is not responding.  I want to write a bash script to verify if ASR status is disabled.

I think we can do it using hpasmcli

However, I have found that hpasmcli is not available on my RHEL linux VM.

Please suggest how to write a bash script to verify if ASR status is disabled.

Bonjour,
