Hello All,

I am new to this community. I have a Proliant DL380 9th Gen server with 1 existing drive cage. I would like to add another cage and 8 more HDDs. The server has a HP Smart Array P440ar/2GB FBWC 12 Gb 2-ports int FIO SAS Controller. I am of the opinion I will need to add another Controller and drive cage. However I am not certain what else I will need to add as far as cabling or other hardware. I am hoping to get some pointers and some info to help with further planning here. Thank you

Please check front panel, System ID Jumper or Riser

I did the following changes to server:

Added more memory

Change Thermopaste on both processors

Replaced P410 controller with LSI 9260

Added dedicated iLO port

I have another 160 G6 server which i upgrade in a same way, but there was no errors.

Thank you.

Bonjour,

Upgrade ML350 G6 from P410i to P812 w/o data loss/array loss?

Hello,

I intend to upgrade my hardware from the p410i to the P812. From what I understand, it's simply just moving the SAS cable over to the card, but I want to confirm. Is there a guide that someone has to walk through this? I want to take the least amount of time possible doing this (meaning, I don't want to restore from a backup, if I don't have to).

Thanks!

Hello, we have a DL180 Gen9 server with P840 array controller supporting RAID 6, which we're using.

We'd like to have a physical alarm (like a flashing light mounted on the rack) due to a RAID hard drive failure.

Is it possible? and how?

Thank you

Hi,

I'm buying new server for my small business, I'm looking at DL360 867446-S01 but I have couple of questions if any would help me with.

1- I'm confused regarding the HDDs, when it's regarding SAS and SATA! Does DL360 867446-S01 controller can fit both? How can the controller accept 3.5, 2.5, SATA and SAS same time!! Someone explain please.

2- Is it the HDDs are the normal 2.5" and 3.5" can I go and buy WD HDD or is there special HDDs to buy?

3- If I can buy normal HDDs from where I can buy the Smart Carrier for the drives? Are they coming with the server?

4- Regarding Raid, If I have 4 drives, I need to do every 2 in one volume or not sure what you call it, will the Raid controller let me do that?

THanks,

DL580 with 2 UPS's of differing voltages

I have a 2 Proliant DL580 G7's with 4 power supplies each along with an attached HP StorageWorks P2000 with dual power supplies on one of the servers.  These were connected to two HP R/T 3000 UPS's which are daisy-chained (not sure who set that up, but there is no other outlet for the 2nd UPS) and appear to have bad batteries. These UPS's output 210V.

I have an APC UPS (120V output) in the rack, and I could connect some equipment to it.

Is it safe to have power supplies connected to different voltage sources simultaneously?

The power supply specs <http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02284143&sp4ts.oid=4142916> indicate they can handle varying voltages, but not sure about using more than one voltage at same time.

Thank you for any assistance.

VFIO error in HP ML30 GEN 9

Hello,

I am using SLES 12 OS and I am trying to bind a PCIe device using PCIe Passthrough solution. When I complete the binding operation, after one minute, the machine's fans start to work very fast, the healt led turns red and blinks and after some minutes, it turns again green.

On the other hand, the GUI of the OS became very unresponsive, I could not even complete simple commands like "ls" or "lspci", so I had to restar the machine manually.

Do you know if I need to update or do something with the machine in order to achieve this PCIe Passthrough goal?

I am attaching some logs from "/var/log/messages"

Techincal data of the machine:

HP Proliant ML30 Gen9

BIOS Version: V23 v2.00 (01/17/2017)

System Memory: 16GB

ML110 G6 doesn't power on after a thermal paste change

Hi Guys,

I have an ML110 G6 working hard since 5 years. During on-dutty maintenance, this time, I decided to change the thermal paste of CPU and bridge chipset.

But when I put back everything on its place, my surprise: the server doesn't start even to spin fans.

I'm sure I did not damage any phisical component and I tested the power supply unit, it's ok.

When I plug in the power cord, standby led brights and BMC led starts to blink however, when I press the power on button (on the front, beside the usual orange light) it does nothing!!!

There's no movement of fans, no beeps no anything, I'm now desesperated.

I removed all excep cpu & tried -> nothing. Reset CMOS via motherboard switch didn't work either.

Could be any other operatin that I need to perform to power it up?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Issues with DL380 G6

Hello,
Recently I bought a second hand server from a company in the UK, and just recieved it, the only issue is that when I go to boot I get "805-Unsupported Processor Detected",  the error suggests that I look on hp (here) for a new ROM version. Well that's where the issue comes in, I believe I've found what I need but then when I put it on a USB and plug it into the server, after changing the boot options, it comes up with the same error and nothing else.

I've managed to update ILO 2 to v2.29, but that doesn't help me in the situtation.

Thank you in advance.

HP ML150 G6 System Health Blinking Red Only in Dual CPU Configuration; Single CPU Config is OK

Problem:

I have an HP ML150 G6 with a single E5504 and 24GB (6x 4GB) modules that works just fine.
After installing an E5540 matched-pair CPU kit and balancing the DIMMs across both CPU DIMM banks (in slots 2A, 4B, 6C), the system powers on but doesn't POST.
The System Health light blinks red indicating a critical system failure was detected, which according to the documentation could be: Processor, Memory, Regulator, Thermal Event, Fan or NMI.

Troubleshooting:

  • Reset the BIOS to failsafe settings
  • Ran the SmartUpdate Firmware (9.30) ISO which confirmed no updates were required
  • I removed all other components (CD/DVD ROM, Hard Drives etc.) to eliminate those possibilities
  • Reverting to the original configuration = OK
  • CPU A in Processor 1 socket with 3x4GB (modules 1, 2 & 3) in CPU1_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C = OK
  • CPU B in Processor 1 socket with the same 3x4GB modules in CPU1_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C = OK
  • CPU A in Processor 1 socket with the other 3x4GB modules (4, 5 & 6) in CPU1_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C = OK
  • CPU B in Processor 1 socket with the same 3x4GB modules CPin U1_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C = OK
  • CPU A in Processor 1 socket with 3x4GB in CPU1_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C and 3x4GB in CPU2_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C = OK (although the system only registers 12GB and complains about the memory configuration)
  • CPU B in Processor 1 socket with 3x4GB in CPU1_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C and 3x4GB in CPU2_DIMM slots 2A, 4B, 6C = OK (although the system only registers 12GB and complains about the memory configuration)
  • CPU A in Processor 1 socket with 6x4GB in CPU1_DIMM slots = OK
  • CPU B in Processor 1 socket with 6x4GB in CPU1_DIMM slots = OK
  • Swapped heat sinks between both CPU's
  • I also tested several memory configuration variation, swapping memory modules around into different slots (example: 2A moved to 6C, 6C to 4B, 4B to 2A etc) = All the combinations were OK with 1 CPU; Adding the second CPU resulted in a failure.
  •  Basically, when a CPU is in the second processor socket, the system exhibits the issue.  No matter what CPU is in the second processor socket, the system fails to boot.  (i.e.: CPU A in Processor 1 socket & CPU B in Processor 2 socket; CPU B in Processor 1 socket & CPU A in Processor 2 socket)

Based on the above, the CPU's and memory modules are sound, suggesting it's something else.

At this point, I'm essentially out of ideas. so any advice/guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
