Installing SSD in HPE ML310e Gen8 v2 Server

Hi,

I have 3 HPE ML310e Gen8 v2 Servers which use WD 3.5" HDDs at the moment. I use these servers as ESXi hosts and due to this reason the performance of the HDDs is not good.

I am planning to purchase 6 Crucial MX300 SSDs to run in a RAID1 array on these servers, which would mean 2 SSDs per server. However as the server accepts 3.5" form factor HDDs, I am planning to buy a HP Part 654540-001, which is a 2.5" SSD to 3.5" SATA Adapter to install the SSDs in to the servers.

Do you guys think these will work? That seems to be a genuine HP adapter, so I think they should work without any problems? The adapter seems to have been even made by Foxconn. And the reason I am planning to use Crucial MX300 SSDs is because they have some built in power protection and are not very expensive.

Hi.

What type, size and level of SSD drives should be used to just run the Windows 2012 R2 OS?  SSD drives are very confusing to me.

Hallo,

(CAUTION) Internal Storage Enclosure Overheating (Temperature Sensor 1, Location Storage, Box 6, Port 2I, Slot 0) auftreten.

Hello,

I got a ProLiant ML350 Gen9 (Windows Server 2012) here and just stumbled across compatible/supported Harddisks :

The server has the following setup :

1x Smart Array P440ar Controller mit
2x HP MM1000GBKAL 1TB (931GB), Raid 1 / Raid 1+0
2x EG0300FCSPH 300GB (279GB) + 2x EG0300FCVBF 300GB (279GB) - Raid 5

Now, this site says, EG0300FCSPH is only compatible until Gen7 but not with Gen9.
The site recommends EG0300FCSPH-SC with Smart Drive Carrier, since Gen8)

Would this just be a cosmetic difference (legacy frame/smart drive carrier) or this the harddrive itself not compatible ?

As the server got set up by an external company, I wonder how HP support might be able to help out, as the followign message shows up every 2 weeks, getting instnaly shown as repaired :
(CAUTION) Internal Storage Enclosure Overheating (Temperature Sensor 1, Location Storage, Box 6, Port 2I, Slot 0)

I read a lot about this matter already. Could be defective harddrives, a driver or firmware problem or a faulty mainboard. All values, temperature and health state are just fine.

Also the Management Homepage shows some "SCIS Bus Faults" (since 2015)

3x MM1000GBKAL

15x EG0300FCVBF

12 x EG0300FCSPH

Things to check :

Id appreciate any kind of additional informations.

Hey all

My vCenter and ESXI is reporting most components incorrectly via Health Status.

Prior to 6.0U3 all components were displaying correctly.

Will this affect my alerting for hardware failure? Is there a fix to get all the components displaying correctly?

I have installed the custom image and latest version as described above.

Thanks

I posted last night asking for help with connecting a newly registered carepack with either a server or my hpe account. This AM I find it missing from the forum and buried without explanation here:

https://community.hpe.com/t5/premod/moderationitemspage/tab/rejected

Why? Couldn't whoever did it at least say why, or route it to a more appropriate section of the forum? I posted it in proliant because I couldn't see a better section for it.

Can I remove a PCI card from boot sequence, or skip it's OP-rom during boot?

----

I have bought this server for testing, CI, NAS. It placed in my office.

so I do not need fast and expensive SAS disk, or any hardware raid.

I installed a fedora system on a SAS disk, attach to the internal P410i.

Then bought some Marvell & LSI low-end HBA cards, many large SATA disks.

I have already select P410i as primary boot device.

If there is no any disk, both P410i and external HBA, I can got a "press F9/10/11 to xxxx" screen.

if I attached any single disk to HBA, nothing is shown, only a black screen, no matter the boot disk exists or not.

If only boot disk mounted, HBA cards installed but no disk on them. I can get a message like "botting from C:", then grub will run, eveything OK again. And I can hot-plug disks to HBA, read & write data.

now when I want restart my server, I must shutdown server,. power off disks, press power button, wait for grub screen, power on disks, press Enter....

HP Proliant DL380 G6 "Failed Drives"

$

Hello all,

I have an HP Proliant DL380 G6 with the following SAS drives:

  • 12x 140GB 10K RPM SAS Drives
  • 3x 900GB 10K RPM SAS Drives

Recently, I went to reboot the server, and the box said that two of my drives have failed and that I needed to replace them if I wanted to continue running the system. I wanted to make sure the two drives were definitelly dead, so I ran the drives in an external drive enclosure. And, the drive spun up and mounted on my system. I then went back to the server and moved the drives to another port, and guess what? The drives spun up and were fully detected and working the box. I cleaned off the ports with compressed air, with no luck.

There is something strange that I'd like to point out. When the server posts with the working drives, you can hear them spin up. However, the "broken" drives aren't audible when the box posts. Also, the drives can't be that messed up because the server lights up the LEDs orange when the box finished posting.

What should I do? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

HP Proliant DL580 G5 - drivers issue

$

Guys,

We loaded a Proliant DL580 G5 with Server2012 R2 and it is having some issues locating USB drivers.  We are having to use a ps2 mouse/keyboard.  I tried googling the hardware ID's of the unknown USB devices but results showed some sketchy results that I wouldn't download anything from.  These are the hardware ID's:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_268A&SUBSYS_31FE103C&REV_09
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_268A&SUBSYS_31FE103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_268A&CC_0C0300
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_268A&CC_0C03

When I let Windows try to update the driver, I get the "intel 631xesb/6321esb/3100 chipset usb universal host controller 2688" error occurred during the installation of the device.

Could you all please advise which driver I need?

Thanks!

Migrating raid5 from one ML350g9 host to DL360g9

$

hello,

i have to move an RAID5 Array from a ML350g9 to DL360g9

The Array is formed by 3x1.2Tb 2.5" disks. On that arrray i have a 2.1 esxi datastore.

I have to move the datastore becouse i have on it a VM that is 2Tb and i have no space to put it when i move the disks.

The ML350g9 have a Smart Array P440ar Controller version 4.52 and the DL360g9 have the same controller with the same firmware version.

So the question is: is safe to move a raid5 array containing an esxi datastore between two machine that have the same raid controller, raid firmware version?

The only thing is (and i know this is not a vmware forum) on the ML350 i have esxi 6.0U2 and on the DL360g9 i have esxi 6.0U3. The datastore should be compatible, right?

thank you

HP ProLiant turns off after attempting to resolve NMI Channel Check / IOCHK Hardware Malfunction

Hello!

I was having an issue that was described perfectly in quite a few threads. HP actually posted an advisory and fix on this issue.

https://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=7796454&docId=emr_na-c04872177&docLocale=en_US

But now after using their fix, the machine just randomly shuts down. No Errors, no warning, and no more blue screen.

Does anyone know where i can start at trying to figure out the real issue? The machine boots fine and turns off after about an hour.

Thanks a ton!
