GB1000EAMYC hard drive running f/w:HPG3 blinking blue and locking up

Hello,

We have a Proliant ML330 G6 with dual GB1000EAMYC (1TB HD) running in RAID+1 configuration.  The lights have been blinking blue for a bit, but I have been unconcerned as the server was running fine.  Friday, the server locked up with an IML message "Internal SAS Enclosure Device Failure (Bay 1, Box 1, Port 1I, Slot 0)".  Other than that error, the managment page and array utility don't show a problem other than the rebuild caused by the server locking up on the above failure.  It locked again on Saturday w/o the device error listed in the IML, but with an array rebuild being required.  I figured that updating the firmware for the drives was a good idea, but they will not update.  I tried the following:

  1. Downloaded cp020448.exe and tried to run it, but it reported that the required hardware isn't installed.
  2. Downloaded cp016173.exe and tried to run it, but it reported that the required hardware isn't installed
  3. My Array diagnostics clearly reports that I have "model: ATA GB1000EAMYC" and "f/w ver: HPG3" for both drives.

Since neither of these firmware updates work, I'm unsure how to proceed.  Is there an offline bootable version I can build a CD to run from?  Do I have to find HPG4 and HPG5 and apply those before appying HPG6?

Driver Error Message: CPQCIDRV driver is not loaded.

I have also tried installing the "hponcfg" tool on Ubuntu and Redhat 7, and in both cases I get the following error. And there is no solid solution to resolving this error with the "CPQCIDRV driver is not loaded".  Can someone please help? 

Note that, I am able to use python-hpilo module to at least communicate with the HP iLO software. However, both Python and Ansible require the "hponcfg" tool to work in order to configure the HP iLO. So I am stuck at the moment.

DL380e Gen8 + B320i Controller, No Hard Drives Found

Hello All,

     I have a DL380e Gen 8 with a B320i Controller that has mysteriously stopped recognizing that hard drives are plugged into it.  I have taken the mini-SAS cables and plugged them into a HP P410 RAID Controller Card that I had laying around and it sees all the hard drives just fine.  So that means that the hard drives, backplane, and the cables are fine.  In looking at the ACU, I noticed that there was no license key present at all, I've been reading that apparently a B320i needs a License Key in order to recognize SAS hard drives.  So, I have a spare 832510-001 hard drive (which is a 1TB 7.2k SATA 2.5" drive) and plugged it into the server, and it still says that it doesn't detect any hard drives.

     So, I ordered two new HP 684896-001 riser Controller Cards to swap with the existing one.  I've now tried both of them in the machine and yet it still doesn't recognize that any hard drives are connected to it.  There are very few actual pictures of the B320i controller on the internet but I did find one on HPE's website:

which is what I purchased.  I find it statistically in the realm of winning the PowerBall that BOTH of these riser cards are bad, so I am reaching out to the community to find out, are all the electronics of the B320i on these riser cards, or is there something on the motherboard that may be damaged?

For the record, I plugged the HP P410 RAID Controller Card into the top slot of the riser board each time, and each time it recognizes all hard drives without issue.  This deepens the mystery for me because it seems impossible that the PCI-E slots would work on each board, but the B320i controller would be damaged in the same way.

 

Any and all help woulid be appreciated on figuring out what actually needs to be replaced here to make the B320i recognize the hard drives again.  Thank you for your time.

Send several SSH 'set' command to ILO without rebooting

Hello,

We are currently planning migration of several console VLANs in our Datacenter. As a result ILO network settings will change.

We would like to automate as much as possible, we would like to update ILO IP address, subnet mask and gateway using SSH commands (we would like to avoid going through server OS).

The solution would then be to execute those 2 commands:

set /map1/enetport1/lanendpt1/ipendpt1 IPv4Address=%newIP% SubnetMask=%newMask%

set /map1/gateway1 AccesInfo=%newGtw%

 The problem is that ILO will reset automatically after executing each command, applying directly the new settings. This will cause it to be unreachable after executing the first command.

Is there any way to execute those 2 commands in one row, or to avoid automatic ILO reboot after first 'set' command?

I got a hp dl360e g8 server(with xenserver on midle )and i try ti install windows server 2016 Essential in a virtual machine .
On windows startup load screen i get this error "Failed BIOS Lock This instalation media may used only on hardware manufactured by : Hewlett packard  Please contact your hardware manufacturer for support "
Were is the problem...?

DL180 G6 - SE326M1 - I can't install linux OS from USB

Hi,

I bought 1 server (12x3.5 version) with a P410 raid controller. I want to install Arch Linux but it can not be simple there are boot options in the BIOS (USB, P410), I have set it up, but the BIOS prints only Checking NVRAM and then just a cursor flashing continuously.

I have made several USB versions:  E2B on ntfs (multiple iso files) and the simplest: iso file on fat32 with rufus. I tried using a USB CDROM (maybe this is the oldest) but it does not work.

Is the server capable of installing from USB? Need a specially prepared pendrive?

DL380G7 failed hard drive issue

Hi all, I am looking for advice on where to look next into this issue. I have a DL380G7 that is running a 3 disk raid 5 array with a hot spare. I have a failed drive. I have replaced the failed drive but after the data rebuilt the drive now shows failed again. Has anyone had this happen to them? and what did you to fix this?

Storage for DL560 Gen9

Hi,

I need to buy a server with 4 processors in rack format by external requirments.

One possibility is a DL560 server Gen 9. I need 10 TB of storage with high performance (for example, a mix of SSD and 15K HDD) for this server.

The question is:

What could be options for this storage with high performance ? Only internal disk ?, internal disk with expansions ? disk arrays attached ?

I prefer direct connections, that means without SAN switches.

Please, providee me any clues according your experience.

How to Extend a RAID-1 logical volume on HP Proliant ML350p Gen8 server ?

Hi Experts,

Would anyone please give some guideline or doc link on how to expand a RAID-1 logical volume on HP Proliant ML350p Gen8 server ?

Presently we have 3 disks configured RAID-1 with two logical drive. C drive for OS(Windows server 2008R2) and D drive for database. Since we are using Oracle Bigfile tablespace feature, I can't keep data on multiple logical drive. I need to extend D drive while we add new harddisk.

Please suggest me with some solution.

DL380 G9 Bay 1 - 8 drive expansion cage cable issue

I have an HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 (803860-B21) which has HP 12Gb SAS Expander Card (727250-B21) and 16 drives installed in bay 2 and 3.

I am trying to add a 3rd cage to take it to 24 drives and have installed the cage and power cables from the recommended kit 719067-B21.  My problem is that the only SAS cable in that kit is for connecting to PCI SAS and not suitable for the Mini SAS connections on the sas expansion card.

Can anyone advise what cable part number I need to connect the new cage to the SAS controller ?

I have attached a diagram of the cable in question from a HP document (http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c04436999) it is the red cable on the left of the picture that runs around a different direction to the other 2.

Cannot logon to P4500 one Node

Hi All,

  I got two nodes and FOM now i cannot login to one node.  CMC is  version 12.6  but Nodes are 9.5. V

VM's are running Ok but noticed that Host got some performance issues.

 noticed that need to start the "hydra" service?

But is this ok to upgrade to 10.5 with these condition? or reboot this node?

This got network raid 10 so  can i reboot this node without any VM migration?

Repurposing of DL185 G5 server

As I am rather a newbie to HP Proliant Servers, I would like to receive your recommendation on the physical upgrade of an old DL185 G5 storage server that I have been commissioned to repurpose into a cloud storage server.

Current Hardware

DL185 G5 with 2GB of ram, HP Smart Array P800 with 512mb, no drives and no caddies with one HP AMD Quad Core Opteron CPU 2354 2.2GHz cpu and dual power supply. All firmware was updated till the latest releases.

Final objective

Server running Ubuntu 16.04.02 LTS with Nextcloud 12, 64gb of physical ram, dual processors 4 gb nics bonded and with 60TB storage at raid level 1+0

Hardware Upgrade where the guidance is needed:

  • QTY 1 - 64GB RAM KIT (PC2-5300 DIMMs (DDR2-667) with Advanced ECC)
  • QTY 1 - HP Part No. 448034-001 HP AMD Quad Core Opteron CPU 2354 2.2GHz 2MB
  • QTY 1 - HP Part No. 457264-001 – HP Proliant DL185 G5 – Heat sink
  • QTY 12 - HP Part No. 373211-001 - HP Proliant 3.5" SATA / SAS drive Tray / Caddy for 3.5"
  • QTY 12 – Seagate IronWolf NAS ST10000VN0004 10TB 3.5" 6Gbps 7.2K RPM (512e) SATA HDD
  • QTY 1 - HP Part No. 436431-001 - HP NC364T PCI Express Quad Port Gigabit Server Adapter

What I am doubting is if I am missing something or if the P800 is capable to run 12 x 10TB SATA drives in the front bays. As to the later, as the manual is rather old, it does not list the 10TB per drive compatibility.

MS Win2016x64 - HPML150G3 - BLACK SCREEN

Hello Everyone,

I am confused on why my Microsoft Windows Server 2016 64-Bit Standard Edition doesn't get installed on my HP ProLiant ML150 G3.

I've tried it via a USB Key and 8GB DVD but both do the same exact thing. It loads at the beginning and I start seeing the blue windows logo but just a few moments later... black screen, pitch black screen. I've waited several minutes without seeing anything and I fail to understand what is happening.

My Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-Bit Standard installs without any problem but this 2016... I have no clue because there is no errors and nothing showing on the screen.

The HDD setup are done via the HP Smart Array E200 RAID 1+0 with 6x300GB SAS 15K. They are all working perfectly and my firmware on my controller is now 1.82 as I had issues with 1.86 so I am not touching it.

Can anyone explain to me what is happening or what am I doing wrong?

P420 supported on ML150 Gen9?

Hi,
Does anyone know if the P420 controller is supported on a ML150 Gen9 server?
I am already running ESXi 6.5 on the server and the drives connected to it are running fine.
However, I would like to update the firmware as well, but that seems impossible. Bios is not detecting the controller and attempting to update through ESXi does not work either.

Any suggestion?

How can the iLO Remote Console be used with ILO Federation?

One of the privileges within an iLO Federation group is "Remote Console Access" -- defined as:

Remote Console Access—Group members can remotely access the managed server Remote Console, including video, keyboard, and mouse control.

BUT for the life of me, I cannot see how to actually a launch a remote console session on another server.

Any ideas, please?

Remote Smart Array configuration using CLI/API through iLO (without OS)

I'm working on automated bare-metal provisioning - precisely HP ProLiant Gen9 series. So far I was able to configure boot order and some bios settings using Redfish API. However disk array is tricky part. It is not possible to do configurion using redfish/RESTful approach. These settings are read-only (supporting only GET/HEAD requests).

I was considering so called "Default Settings" accessible in Inteligent Provisioning where you can configure profile (zipped XML files) which can be deployed via python-hpilo. However disk array options are very limited - only RAID level and stripsize can be configured. You cannot create and customize array. More on this topic: Working with Intelligent Provisioning Deployment Settings and python-hpilo

Only scenario I can think of is booting pre-configured live ISO image with HP SSA/hpacucli  and automatic script upon boot which will do this task and optionally reboot to target ISO image that installs final OS (this image shouldn't be modified, therefore it cannot contain 3rd party software like HP SSA).

Is there is better way to do this using low level ROM/iLO CLI utility (like ORCA) which could be automated? (SSH to iLO => TEXTCONS/VSP approaches the goal but I think it won't be possible to automate.)

Hi - I'm looking for supported 10GbE network cards for a ProLiant DL360p Gen8. I've found some FC HBA's, but am looking Base-T, RJ45 options. A dual-port NIC is adequate.
