Amber Light on Motherboard

Hi there,

 

I have recently acquired a Proliant ML350 G6,

I have a flashing amber light on the front panel, and a steady amber light on the motherboard.

 

ive tried to find out what this amber light is, but the manual for the board doesnt seem to show the LED that is lit.

 

the LED is next to the end dimm slot towards the IO panel end of the board.

the system recognises all the ram and seems to run fine (well not quite, but i'll come to that in a minute), ive tried swapping dimms around or removing the offending one but i still get the same amber light. can anyone please tell me what this LED is??

 

the other problem i have is that I occasionally get a BSOD with the error DPC Watchdog Violation. FYI im running  win10 pro.

I had hoped to update the bios. but it seems i cant have the most recent rom as i dont have a support package ot something.

for the record, im just a gamer who's built a system on the cheap. is there now way we can have the roms? obviously i accept full responsibility if the worst happens.

I have an old HP ProLiant DL185 G5 Storage Server with twelve large form factor (LFF) 3.5" drive bays and HP Smart Array P800/512MB Controller with dual battery-backed write cache (BBWC), which I like to reconfigure into a Linux cloud storage.

I would like to ask if the P800 controller can handle drives in exess of 2TB per bay on the LFF of the server. The drives I am after are the Seagate Iron Wolf Pro.

Help Increasing Storage Space for ProLiant DL360e Gen8

I have a ProLiantDL360e Gen 8 server with a Smart Array P420.  My array is is Raid 5 with 5 300 GB SAS HDD and there is 1 drive bay open as well but would like to increase the amount of space I have by more than just 300 GB's.  Looking for suggestions on the best way to do that? Is it as easy as just buying another drive and putting it in the empty drive bay?  Can I buy a larger drive say 500GB and just put it in the empty drive bay or will that still only give me an additional 300?

HP Proliant DL360 G7 CPU Compability

Hello All,

I am an IT Student and just recently bought an HP Proliant DL360 G7 for my Homelab.
Now I wanted to upgrade the CPU Power a bit and was a surprised to find that my CPU, an Intel Xeon X5679 which was built into my Server, is not on the compatibility list...

My question to you more experienced guys would be, is it smart to buy a second one (same CPU) although it is not really on the compatibility list but works so far without any issues. Or do you See some complications heading my way if I do decide to do so? As for the power consumption, which I see as a possible concern, this CPU is in the same range as the Intel Xeon X5690 which is listed.

DL120 G9 Noise due fans stuck at 40%

Hello,

we have two DL120 G9 with same configuration. After the OS boot, all the three fans remain at 40% of speed, generating an unbearable noise.

There is a similar advisory (c04841782) for DL180 but none of solutions provided have worked.

We done all kind of test: with or without drives, with or without RAM, with or without PCI card, updated with last SPP 2017.04, tried with Windows, ESX, Linux... nothing to do.

The server is inside a room with controlled temperature, working at 21 C

Compared to other HP servers in the same room, the others has fan at 10-15% of speed, these at 40%.

I would exclude hardware issue because the behaviour is the same for the two servers.

I think something regarding wrong temperature reading by some sensor... do you have any suggestion?

ilo4 RIBCL scripting question, please? How can I test the ILO AlertMail feature from a script?

Hi

Our ILOs are set up to send alerts via email in the usual way and testing the feature from the ILO web GUI works as expected. What I would like to do is be able to test the feature from a script (eg to have a periodic check that can be run across the entire estate to verify that the alerting mechanism is in good shape).

Although HP's perl scripting toolkit shows examples of configuring these settings via script, I cannot find any way of initiating a test of AlertMail.

Any ideas, please?

ML350 g5 & WD Gold Data Center 1TB hdd's compatibility

Hope this is in the correct place - forgive me if it's not.  

I'm trying to re-purpose an old ML350 g5 that I've had sitting around as a backup server and was wondering if it can handle the new WD Gold Data Center 1tb hdd's?  

Does anyone have any "real-life" experience with this?

ML350 G9 Fans Too Low

I recently got an ML350 G9 and the fans are very low (6-7%). This is usually desirable as it's really quiet, however my SSDs are running very warm and it's causing them to run very slow due to overheating. I have the power settings in the BIOS set to max performance but the fans still run on low and the SSDs run far too hot to function. Is there anything I can do to speed up the fans and get some more airflow? I already covered half of the HDD module blanks with paper to redirect airflow over the SSDs but it's still not enough.

SPP 2017.04.0 for DL185 G5 type error

I am trying to upgrade the firmware on an old DL185 G5 Storage Server with Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2017.04.0 both in automatic and interactive but I keep getting a type error: ipscript is undefined past the mounting of the filesystem and the update hangs, i.e. firfox does not startup to display hpsum, sas and insight agent.

I have checked similar posts on the community forum and took the advice to remove the management lan from shared to dedicated, to no avail.

What can I do to correct this.

Our company has 4 HP Proliant DL380 gen9 servers.

Once per week every server randomly reboots, after receiving an Uncorrectable machine check exception error.

Integrated management log:

Tried a lot of recomendations, but nothing helped to resolve this problem.

 

Configuration:

CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon E5 v3

RAM : 64Gb

BIOS version 2.40.

(legacy mode, Max performance profile, C, P states disabled).

Instalation Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on ML150 Gen9

Hi,

 

I have been trying to instal ubuntu on a ML150 Gen9. As Intelligent Provisioning does not have an option for ubuntu, I did so manually. I booted into a live-usb and installed ubuntu. After reboot, ubuntu is visable in the boot menu, but when selected, the screen goes black and I get kicked back to the configeration nenu. I tried this in both legacy and UEFI mode.

 

Does anyone have an idea on what to do?

smart Array P410i in Embedded Slot error

Hi,

I have a DL380 G6 with 5 drives in a Raid5 configuration.

I have added one more hard disk to my server and i want to expant the smart array logical drive, when i am searching for the expand option its not visible, then i  noticed in the ACU, the error message "Smart array p400i in embedded slot has one or more array accelerator batteries/capacitors that are failed" see attached jpg for the rest of the message.

i have replaced the controller battery twice, but still I am getting the same alert message. Is the error related to controller battery or anything else.


please help me on resolving this error.

HP DL380 for Intense Database Processing

I'd like to build out an HP DL380 G9 server for intense database processing. I'd like to use a mix of SSDs and HDDs and here is my design. Can someone please comment on the validity? My entire database is less than 3TB but I want to allow for future growth.

HP DL380 G9

2* Xeon E5-2698 v4 CPU

32GB * 24 = 768 GB DDR4 RAM

P840 Array controller

2* 1 TB HDD (for the OS)

4* 1.2 TB SATA SSD (for the database) (Should this be SATA, SAS, or PCIe?)

6* 4 TB 7200 HDD (for the software and database backup)

ADUReport - Should I be worried?

HW: 2x HP DL380 G9
. P440ar + SAS Expander
. 2x 1.6TB SSD + 11x 1.8TB SAS 10K HDD
OS is VMware ESXi 6.0 with HPE StoreVirtual VSA.

So I finally got around to install HPSSADU and VMware vSphere CLI so I could run an online ADUReport.

Most of it looks fine, but two things worries me:

1. I am seeing "bus faults" on all SSD's:

iLO upgrade to Advanced license on Proliant DL360P

Hi,

I've got 2 HP Proliant DL360P Gen8 servers with a trial Advanced license of iLO. I would like to upgrade them and buy 2 iLO Advanced licenses. According to the HPE iLO licensing guide (provided on HP website : http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c04951959), the iLO advanced license product number is 512485-B21.

Could you confirm me that this is the reference of the product I have to buy to upgrade my 2 iLO licenses to Advanced on the HP Proliant DL360P Gen8 servers ?

Control fan speed on HP ProLiant ML10 Gen9

Hello,

My HP ProLiant ML10 Gen9 is working just fine but the noisy fan is a bit annoying. I installed SpeedFan like I did on my previous server but running SpeedFan causes my server to crash. Fan speed changes to low, then to high, followed by a reboot.

Any ideas how to get SpeedFan to work or to lower fan speed? I have a PWM controller but I wonder whether there's any better way?

SATA HDD Driver Issue when trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi there, I'm running into an issue trying to install Window 2008 R2 Server on my Server

 I can't find the correct driver to allow the O/S to be installed on any my 6 HDD's  I (keep getting a partition error when I select any of the HDD's that are empty)

 I can upload my LOG file if required

 I've tried several drivers to no avail along with using the PARTDISK cmd to prep the drives

 I just want to run the disks in a non-raid configuration

 Any ideas where I can find the correct driver?
