DL380 Gen10 displays is blank on a APC 19" RACK LCD Console
Our new DL380 Gen10 shows a blank screen on a APC 19" RACK LCD Console monitor (AP5719). Keyboard works just fine but no screen display. Firmware is all up to date. KVM-USB has been swapped out along with the lan cable - no good. The AP5719 works fine with Gen9 on down, even thought we need to set the "embedded video connection" to "Always enable". This is our standard on all servers and still no display. Can only get a screen when connected to the the front display port on another monitor.
This is just a VGA port what could HPE have changed to mess this up ? Why can't they just use a basic/standard graphics gpu.
Configuration Task in HP Smart Array Gen 9 Controllers
Please I have a doubt and I was reading in HP Smart Storage Administrator User Guide,Edition:4,Year:2015,page 6 it is said that the procedure:Configure RAID 1 Advanced Data Mirroring (ADM) and RAID 10 Advanced Data Mirroring(ADM) in HP Smart Array Gen9 Controllers(RAID Mode) is made by P-Series only. The first question is:
What does mean P-series only ?
and others question are:
Is possible that I could create a RAID 1 in HP Proliant DL380 Gen9 and
HP Proliant DL360 Gen 9?
How can i identify that my server fulfil with P-series only?
because I do not understand about this procedure,I am worried with that, thanks in advance.I am sending a photo about this doubt
RAID 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 - Double HDD failure
Hi all,
Could someone help me please, this situation is quite critical for me:
I'm an IT enthusiast however all my knowledge comes from self-learning since 1999, and not exactly from formal training. The company I work for is a subsidiary of another global company based in Belgium. Our ICT department is based there, however, due to my relevant knowledge I provide local IT support together with my manager who is also an IT advanced user, we both have admin rights, but not the authority to manage our local server and Meraki switches for example.
Long story short: I've been accused of causing data loss (only local fortunately, since our local machine synchronises with a datacentre based in Belgium, Thank God!). This has reduced our workload in about 50% for 3 days as most of our files are located on the server HDDs.
This is the sequence of events:
- 8 am as I arrive at work the office is still empty, one member of our workshop team reports he cannot access any files. I go to check the server, and he follows me.
- I see that out of 8 drives, one (I may refer it as drive A) had a static amber light and the other one (B), was completely off, so no LEDs lit. (at this point I should have taken a photograph and stupidly I haven't). The remaining 6 drives had displayed static green light only.
- I hot swap the drive with the static amber light (A) and plug it into an empty slot. Nothing happens, LEDs do not light up. Actually our ICT had sent replacement drives earlier, so I've replaced the failed drive with a new one (and this was the last spare we’ve had). Nothing happens, no LEDs light up.
- I hot swap the offline drive (B) and swapped with a healthy drive (C) on slot 3, just to rule out any problems with the connector.
- Drives A, B, and C are now offline. All others display static green.
- I call our ICT department to report the problem, and they've asked me to plug a keyboard and a monitor to the sever so I could restart it.
- The O/S would not respond, it could not restart by pressing F12.
- ICT asks me to do a hard restart (i.e. press the power button for a few seconds).
- Now everything looks ok, all drives are flashing green simultaneously, but we can’t access any data.
- My manager decides to call our managed services supplier and ask them to send one of their technicians, they see that RAID 5 configuration was a complete mess because I’ve hot swapped the drives earlier.
- At this point I realize I’ve made a big mistake as I’ve wrongly assumed that the drives would synchronize regardless of the position, I also was unaware of the RAID 5 configuration. It was stupid, I know.
- I get blamed for the local data loss because I have hot-swapped more than one drive, I’m immediately told that because of this, they cannot rebuild the array and recover data.
- ICT creates a virtual server so we can stream data from the datacentre, but this takes 3 days causing some delays to our work.
- I start my own investigation, and I send a formal email to ICT explaining that I’ve made a mistake whilst trying to help, it is a fact. However my actions have not caused any data loss because 2 drives had failed overnight at the same time on a RAID 5 configuration. Despite my actions, it was already too late.
- ICT tells me that it is not true, and that hot-swapping more than 1 drive has caused array misconfiguration and consequent data loss. But they cannot technically prove it, they’ve only got my statement and our managed services supplier’s technician opinion.
A few notes:
- On the day before the failure, I’ve noticed degraded performance shortly before we had finished for the day, but I haven’t checked the server as we were too busy, and it is not really my job to monitor the server, I just try to help as required.
- The machine is quite old, it was handed to us 5 years ago, and it was already second hand.
- We’ve been sent 3 spare drives since 2016, the machine has experienced 2 drive failures (separate events). The 3rd failure refers to this event.
- My manager has previously alerted the ICT about the reliability of the server, performance degradation, and frequent failure of HDDs.
- I’m in a forum, I don’t need to lie here, there’s no way I would waste my time creating this massive text if I know I was at fault. Nevertheless, I’m conscious about my mistake, lesson learned, it’s not my job, I love I.T., but I won’t touch any other machines they put here.
- My manager fortunately believes me, he’s actually fed up with the ICT team because they’ve ignored his warnings about the machine’s reliability.
In summary, I would like to know whether there is a way to see a log with the date and time of both HDD failures. The machine has been replaced and it will soon return to Belgium, but I would like to prove my point before it goes.
This is because despite my email, they keep insisting it is my fault. As far as I’m aware there is no consequence for my actions because these cannot be proved, it is basically my word against theirs. Hence a log would definitely help.
Thanks in advance.
Gen 7 DL385 - Fan Error/Failure
Hi
We have a series of Gen 7 servers in our rack. One particular one is giving me grief. The error/failure is related to fan 2. One minute it seems to think it isn't in the system and then suddenly it is inserted again. I have attached a screenshot of the problem. What this means is that the other fans are running at a higher rate than normal, with the sound equivalent to that of small jet engine.
I am thinking it is most likely hardware related. Possibly firmware related although I believe most of the firmware is up to date.
Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated as I am stuck for ideas.
Regards,
Gareth
installing windows server 2016
Hey guys so i just got a fresh hp proliant dl370 g6 with four SFF 160gb harddrives. I've tried installing vmware and that worked but im now looking to install windows server 2016 but everytime i get to select a boot disk it says that my system can not boot off of this device and to enable the disk controller in bios. I believe it is because of the different disk format and was wondering if anyone could lend a hand. Thank you
Did ML150 G6 receive a microcode update?
Hello,
i want ask, to HP Plans to release a microcode update about spectre for the oldish server?

Sir I have installed Ubantu server 16.04 on DL 180 G9 and doing USB Tethering for Internet on it but I cannot connect to Internet
About RAID 1 in hard disk drives
Some days ago I sent a photo about two disks but in this case they are not mirror because it was explained that for a mirror ,both physical drives would need to be a part of the same array, and the array would have to be setup as RAID 1 or RAID 1+0
In this case Do I need to create again the array to configure Raid 1??
If I do not make a backup about this logical drives, can I lost the saved information on this three logical drives of the first disk?
What do you advice to me?
I send the photo again, excuse me for the differents questions in a moment, thanks in advance
iLO2 is set up but I'm unable to log in.
Hello,
I'm somewhat of a rookie at this. I purchased a used Proliant ml350 G6 to help me learn so I have something here at home to work with.
I followed the instructions I found for setting up iLO3 on a G7 server. Disabling splash screen, going into F8 and set up (even though I have iLO2 on a G6)
DNS/DHCP disabled, ip/dns/gateway all set correctly
I set a password and then saved info and power cycled the server.
I'm able to access the iLO2 ip address from any device on my network but all I get is an error screen
Establishing a secure Integrated Lights Out session with host is unnamed at 192.168.0.113
Note: When the 'Security Alert' panel is displayed, you must select 'Yes' to accept the certificate to access Integrated Lights-Out.
Does this refer to the messages doing boot up?
I'll attach a couple of screenshots and will reply with info as requested.

vSphere/vSAN 6.7 and Proliant Gen8 Support
Hello,
I know that vSphere support is dependent upon our partners deciding to maintain certification of hardware. With milestone releases like 6.7 that released this week, it seems as though HPE is ready to cut The Proliant Gen8 series from future supportability with vSphere. I was looking for some sort of confirmation. I am looking at the vSphere HCL, vSAN VCG as well as the HPE operating system compatibility matrix and it does seem they are ommtted. With the loss of G7 at 6.5 and now the Gen8 line a year later, it seems HPE is really cutting the support cord quite quickly and that is upsetting. The Gen8 like was still being sold in 2015 so companies that have purchased server less than 5 years ago would be unable to get new features in a supported way.
DL380e Gen8 ILO and health problems
Hello everyone.
I have recently purchased a used HP Proliant DL380e Gen8 server, but I'm unable to start it. It powers on, all FANs are running, but nothing more. The health LED blinks red, indicating a critical error. I tried to identify the problem with embedded iLO module, but unable to connect to it, because it doesn't acquires an IP from DHCP. Can anyone help with resolving this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Migrating the stripe size on a HPT GEN9 Smart Array Controller
Can I migrate the stripe size on a HPE DL380 GEN9 Smart Array Controller with no loss of data?
I know there is an option in SSA to perform this. But my question is is this non-destructive ? Does this require downtime ?

Can't access into Intelligent provisioning
When I’m trying to access intelligent provisioning (HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 2 ) using F10 it didn’t appears. Instead accessing to intelligent provisioning, after one beep it boot the operating system.
I tried to reinstall the intelligent provisioning using burned disk. After boot server using intelligent provisioning disk it trying to reinstall but after few seconds it shows “Error flashing the NVRAM”
Massage and restart the server.
Resetting NVRAM using ROM-Based Setup Utility and System Maintenance Switch didn’t worked.
Still appears the same error.
