NVMe on a DL380p G8

Hello,

I've recently installed an NVMe drive onto a PCI-e adaptor, and installed it into a Dell R610, which is older than a Gen8 DL380p. This worked, using a USB to boot from and the NVMe drive for the OS.

I've attempted to do the same on the HP server, but I've hit a snag. The PCI-e device is not being detected... at all. Is it possible that I need to appy a BIOS update, or some firmware in order for the server to detect the drive. I've attached an Image of the SSD in the x16 PCI-e slot.

Any help with getting the drive the be detected by the server, would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Rohan

P420i - Parity initialization failed

Hey there,

we got a DL380 Gen8, P420i Controller, 19 SSDs - 3 Arrays, 3 logical Volumes, 2 OK, 1 with Error "Parity initialization failed" ... already searched for this Failure - but haven't found anything helpful on that! :-/
Is there any way to check "why" the initialization failed? And how do I force the Controller to redo the init?

Proliant DL380 Gen9

Hello was hoping for some assistance with upgrading the Firmware and Bios for a Proliant DL380 Gen9 and take it to a later version of esxi. I intend to use a USB to perform the update.

iLo is not available.

I have firmware version 2.5 as an .rpm file, and two zipped folders for esxi; One is a "util-bundle" and the other is a "mgmt-bundle".

I'm asking assistance with the steps to perform the upgrade. If you have any documentation that would be helpful.

What is the difference between the utl-bundle and mgmt-bundle? Do both need to be put on one USB? Zipped folders, or extracted? Step upgrade the esxi?

Is only the firmware.rpm file used to create a bootable usb?

Thank you

FAN & ILO4 issue: DL380p Gen8 with Dual Xeon 2660 v2

$

I'm having a problem with one of my Proliant DL380p's

The ILO4 sometimes reports an ip address but all the time it says its not available and F8 gives up and moves on to the boot order. No response when trying to SSH on the ILO port.

I downloaded the HPE Smart update manager 7.6.2 and it updated all the other components but gave an error on ILO:

Online ROM Flash Engine: FLASH_ILO 4 1.17 (Sep 30 2015)

Error: Make sure hp Lights-Out driver is installed and loaded, also execute the utility as root
return code 7.

Am I right in thinking faulty ILO4 chip or does that particular smart update have a configuration / driver issue.

I don't actually need ILO to work I just want to fix an issue I'm having with the fans, They ramp up to full speed at random intervals. My other proliants are all fine, I even have a DL360p with a broken ILO and those fans are steady.

I've tried restoring BIOS from backup, removing all components, it only has HP branded peripherals, removing all of those still does not fix the fan issue. I've also replaced all the fans.

Ambient temperature is 20c

Has anybody seen this behaviour out in the field? I'm sure the recommended fix for an enterprise environment would be a new system board however this is a home server so I'm wondering if there's any hack I could do to control the fan issue.

I'm running Ubuntu Server 16.04

How to Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 Cluster with 4 nodes (four HPE ProLiant DL300er and one LUN / SAS)

$

My Boss got 4 HPE ProLiant DL300er Series (Generation 8) and one HPE Storage Enclosure 3000er Serie yet. Is it possible to connect all 4 Servers with additional HPE SmartArray 421 (or better HPE SmartArray 431) to this HPE 3700er to build a cluster with 4 nodes (all four ProLiants), or do we need to build it with the two HPE ProLiant 380p only and use the HPE ProLiant DL360e and HPE ProLiant 360p for something else (for the Active Directory for example)? I yet recommeded him to buy two SmartArray 421 (cheaper) for the both HPE ProLiant DL380p to use / to connect the HPE 3700 Enclosure for the needed LUN for the Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition for building a Failover-Cluster for Microsoft Hyper-V where further (virtual) Servers can run on and use the two other HPE ProLiant DL360p and 360e with Windows 2012 R2 Essentials for a PDC and BDC. for a Active Directory Domain,

Are there other recommondations, examples, best practices examples or official HPE advisory how to build the 4 node cluster my boss is preffering (instead this) ?!?

I am wondering if some HPE geeks oder HPE experts can reply because all the hardware has run out of official HPE support contract.

With best regards,

Dirk

Cloning a server using a drive from a broken mirror

I'm trying to clone a working DL360 G9 with a single RAID 1 array on a SmartArray P440ar controller.  I have broken the mirror and used one disk to rebuild the array on the original machine.  All is working as expected on the original server using the rebuild mirror.

However, I'm not sure how to use the "spare" disc from the original server to create the clone. The latest instructions I can find are from 2011 in "RAID 1(+0): breaking mirrors and rebuilding drives  How to, 5th edition" and they don't seem to apply to my G9.  I've copied and pasted the instructions from the old How to below, for reference.

I start with one drive (containing the data I want) from the broken mirror on the original server, an identical drive with no data and a server with no installed discs and nothing configured on the array controller.  Do I need to create an array with just one drive before I start?  If so, which one, the drive with the data I want, or the empty drive?  On my G9, once I have installed the second drive in the server (seen as unallocated), the only option I have is under "Manage Data Drives", "Mirror Array - Double the number of drives in the array and convert all logical drives to RAID 1", where I can choose the unallocated drive to join the mirror.  Again, it's not clear to me whether the data I want to keep should be on the unallocated drive or the one I've already allocated to the single logical drive.

Please will someone give me step-by-step instructions (or point me to the relevant document for a G9) to clone a copy of my original server using the drive I have from the broken mirror?

Thanks!

From 2011 document:

Recombining a split mirrored array using ACU

Complete the following steps to re-mirror an array using ACU:

1. Take the server offline and insert the CD or bootable USB drive that contains the ACU (typically SmartStart) into an appropriate media drive.

2. Restart the system, booting to the CD or bootable USB drive.

3. Select the HP ACU from the Maintenance Operation menu.

4. Select the controller that contains the array you want to re-mirror.

5. In the Configuration View panel, select the array to use as the source in the re-mirrored array.

6. In the Available Tasks panel, click Re-Mirror Array.

7. Select the array to be mirrored to the source. This is usually the array previously split out of the original mirrored array, but it can be another array of the correct size. CAUTION This process destroys all data on the second array.

8. Click OK.

DL360 G5 Change from RAID1+0 to RAID5

I have a DL360 G5 Server with a Smart Array P400i Controller (Cache Module and working battery is present). All 6 SFF Slots are equipped with 300GB SAS disks which are currently configured as a RAID1+0.

Performance is not important on this machine, but disk space is running out.

Could I migrate online from RAID1+0 to RAID5 with this setup?

Hi

What is the latest option for Proliant integration with SCCM?  The Proliant Integration Kit for System Center seems to have been deprecated.  There seems to be a sugestion of using "Oneview", but I cannot find any decent info on it.  Is it a paid product? Any ideas?

Thanks

Here is my situation, i have 2 old DL380 G6 which i use to run some of my VM Admin stuff like Log Insight etc.
I upgraded the Ilo 2 to version 2.33 03/20/2018

So far so good, i used the ILO to reboot my system and now its stuck in the Standby mode. If i SSH to Ilo and do

but if i now go and do

</>hpiLO-> power on

Server power already On

tried rebooting Ilo and all but no luck. Short of driving to datacenter how can i get server out of standby ?

Hp Proliant ML150 G5 Windows Server 2003 Setup "no disks found"

$

Hi all,

I've bought a used ML150 G5 that I want to install Windows 2003 on.

The server already has a Win Server 2003 installation but the previous owner has forgotten the admin password so I can't login.

I've obtained a Windows Server 2003 installation disk and I've created a floppy with the cp010754 driver (Smart Array SAS/SATA Windows Driver).

In the BIOS I changed the hard disk controller to "RAID" before booting from the disk.

When I proceed with the installation after I succesfully(?) load the SAS driver from the floppy the installation stops stating that it can't find any disks.

I tried with the controller set to "IDE" too with the same result.

Anybody knows what I'm doing wrong?

There aren't any easy setup disks from this particular server.

I just want a clean installation to start with..

Thanks:)
