Requirements for using NVMe SSD disks on DL360 G9 Server

Hi,

I need to install 2 normal SAS disk and also two NVMe SSD disks (960GB each or more) on my DL360 G9 server with exact specs as follows:

HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 E5-2630v4 1P 16GB-R P440ar 8SFF 500W PS Base SAS Server (818208-B21)

And I have some questions:

1- Do we need to purchase and install a separate cage for NVMe disks or the can be fit into the existing one. I can see this config and I don't know whether it needs another cage or not:

4 SAS/SATA (Drive 1-4) + 6 NVMe (Drive 5-10)

The current front panel is like the following photo. (the default shipped)

DL360G9

2- I think I need an enablement kit. Appearently NVMe 2.5" SSDs require a PCIe Express Bay Enablement Kit,

Is this one OK?

HP DL360 Gen9 NVMe 2 Solid State Drive Express Bay Enablement Kit 764628-B21
NOTE: This option provides support for up to 2 NVMe SFF drives.
This option cannot be used with the Universal Media Bay Kit.
NOTE: The HPE DL360 Gen9 High Performance Fan Kit (766201-B21) will be required
with this option.

3- Does this enablement kit include all kits, cables, PCI card and cage necessary for these hards?

4- Where this kit fits? Is the DVD-ROM replaced by the cage needed for these 2 NVMe disks?

5- I read that these disks are not supported by hardware RAID controller on the server (P440). Am I right? These disks can only be RAIDed in the operating system?

6- What is this Fan kit ?766201-B21 ? (which as read above is required for using these NVMe disks) Is this a single fan or the whole 6 fans in the back of front panel of server? Or it's just a single fan which should be installed instead of one of the fans or I donno maybe beside them?

Sorry for long post and too many questions and thanks in advance.

DL360P G8 Can't upgrade iLO or BIOS firmware (Stuck at 1%)

I've just picked up a used DL360P G8 server to compliment my DL20 G9s.

The firmware was all only 1 version higher than the shipping firmware, so it was approx 5 years old and I started to upgrade it all.

I've managed to update all other components except for the BIOS and the iLO firmware.

I seem to be getting the issue where it gets stuck at "Firmware Flash Progress 1%".

I have searched on here and tried the common fixes, such as wiping the iLO config, removing power, using the DIP switches to reset config, flashing via USB key, Windows O/S, through iLO itself, through intelligent provisioning, through the latest SUP, trying incremental BIOS/iLO upgrade paths, and using hponcfg to reset the config.

None of these have worked and I'm still stuck not being able to update these 2 components.

My board is a V2 one, and the current versions are:

iLO = 1.4.0

BIOS = P71 12/20/2013

Anyone have any other sugestions to try and get these 2 items upgraded?

Cheers!

HP DL360 G6 -boot from External DVD drive

Hi,

I'm using HP DL 360 G6 server with RAID 1 (with 2HDDs). As i need to reinstall existing Windows server 2008 R2 , i'm trying to boot from OS DVD using a external LG DVD drive. but, it's not booting from DVD. I tried by connecting the DVD drive to different USB ports, but, no luck. Internal DVD slim drive is not working.

There is no issue either with the DVD disk or LG DVD drive. It's found working with different desktop and server.

External DVD drive is not detected in BIOS (RBSU). I tried to enable 'Legacy USB support' in BIOS (RBSU), but, there was no option to enable. It was looking like as it is in read-only mode.

Anyone please guide me to resolve this issue. Are there any setting i need to enable in BIOS (RBSU) to detect external DVD drive? how to enable Legacy USB support? .

Host reboot and IP addresses are lost

New HPE DL380 Gen10 servers running the HPE customized ESXi 6.7 software. This is the customized version downloaded in May, I did notice there was a new one posted at th end of June

Management is setup on standard switch, DVswitch used for VM, iSCSI, and vMotion traffic

VMkernel ports are all setup for iSCSI and vMotion with iSCSI binding showing all storage volumes

Reboot a host and the IP address information for the iSCSI and vMotion is gone! The IP address for the management network stays just fine

Not sure if the problem lies with the setup of these new servers (BIOS or NIC settings) or with the HPE customized version of ESXi

Any ideas?

Proliant ML350p Gen 8 Drive Type

I have a Proliant ML350p Gen 8 with the small 146gb drives, 6G 15K.   I need to increase my drive size, but the largest 6G drives are 300gb.   If I move to a 12G 15K drive, I can get up to 600 gb.

My question is... am I stuck with 6G, or can I swap up to the 12G drives?

thanks!

Inventory Error when upgrading firmware

Hi all, need some help here. been stuck for the past few days.

I have a few gen9 proliant servers that needed to be updated to v2.60. None of them have any os installed, they are all fresh servers

- Downloaded the SPP 2018.06 and key utility

- Converted a thumbdrive into a bootable iso.

Was able to update all but one of the servers. During step 1 of the update, it will perform a baseline and inventory check. The baseline check was successful, however when checking the inventory of the localhost, it failed and showed an inventory error. I could'nt find any more information regarding what caused the error.

Hi all,

I have on server DL360 G6 in ADU report this situation:

Smart Array P410i in Embedded Slot : Internal Drive Cage at Port 1I : Box 1 : Drive Cage on Port 1I : Physical Drive (300 GB SAS) 1I:1:4 : Monitor and Performance Statistics (Since Factory)

Read Errors Hard                     0x00000006

And below that it stands:

Smart Array P410i in Embedded Slot : Internal Drive Cage at Port 1I : Box 1 : Drive Cage on Port 1I : Physical Drive (300 GB SAS) 1I:1:4 : Monitor and Performance Statistics (Since Reset)

   Read Errors Hard                     0x00000000

Can anyone explain to me what "(Since Factory) and (Since Reset)" means?

There is scheduled software upgrade of this server, so can we proceed with upgrade, or do we need to replace disk?

Thanks in advance,

LDAP Authentication not applying on all machines

I set a number of DL380 G9's iLO for LDAP auth by means of a script. I can see the settings applied as in the Administration>User Administration I see my AD groups and in Security>Directory I have Local and Kerberos authentication marked and groups and LDAP server details filled in. iLO 2.55 on all machines. Now on some of the machines when I access the iLO page I can see "irectory or local usrname" for logon but on some I see only Local. What may be the cause for that?

Disk failure at shutdown

$

I have a situation with a Proliant Server which has had a disk failure and now will not boot to the Windows OS we had installed.  The background is as follows:  The server was temporarily removed from its rack while we did some organization and installation of new equipment.  We had it online from a temporary location and running normally.  About 3 weeks ago, we noticed a prefailure light on one of the disks.  There are 4 disks total, two pairs set up in RAID, and each containing one volume visible to the Windows server running on the hardware.  The failed disk was the disk in slot two, and one of the ones with the volume housing the OS.  We ordered a replacement and hot-swapped the disk.  Fast forward to yesterday.  Everything has been running normally since the disk replacement.  I powered down the Windows OS on the server and the hardware automatically powered down to stand by and all disk activity was off.  I racked the server and attempted to power it on.  The new replacement disk came up with warning of full failure.  iLo indicates a fault with the disk.  The hardware powers on and attempts to find an OS to, run but does not.

My thought is that the hot-swapped disk would be seen by the RAID controller and everything would move forward automatically.   Even if something happened to that replaced, second disk, shouldn't normal operations have occurred, albeit with a warning that the RAID controller didn't have a second disk to mirror to?

Any thoughts on what might have happened?  Is there anything at this point to attempt to recover?

Thanks

Trouble Removing a d2600 disk enclosure

$

I have a Proliant dl180 G6 with a P812 Smart Controller showing 4 devices, running Windows 2008 R2. I have three HP Storagework D2600 disk Enclosures attached to it.

Enclosure A) 12 x 2TB SATA Drives

Enclosure B) 12 x 2TB SATA Drives

Enclosure C) 12 x 2TB SAS Drives

I would decommission enclosure B. You'd think it would be a simple matter. I've decommisioned enclosures on other servers without a problem. On this server I'm getting a strange result. When I remove enclosure B from service and bring up the server, the controller, it shows 0 logical drives instead of 3 logical drives. If I go back to the original setup, I get 4 logical drives. When I leave the enclosure B connected and disconnected another enclosure (as a test), the controller shows 0 logical drives. Why is this happening? How can I fix this? I don't want to screw up the other two enclosures. Thanks, in advance.

I have a server which has been running slowly and sometime even crawling. Below is a s-trace of a command which i ran and i notices that a system call took about 24s to complete. ML 110 Gen 10 and ESXi

$

Hello all.  I recently bought a new ML110 Gen 10 server and am trying to install ESXi 6.7 on it.  I have loaded the newest BIOS and IP 3.20 on the server.  When I use the intelligent provisioning, it shows it is going to install fine, but it alwasy errors out after it reboots and goes to do the actual install.  I found a workaround to bypass a USB driver that is new that seems to cause issues, but even after that, it tells me that it can't find any storage, even though I have 4 drives installed and have them set as 2 RAID 1 sets.  I have even tried to go as far and setting the BIOS to ACHI instead (which the server is really not happy with) and it still says it fails.  I am using the newest HP ESXi installer iso that says Gen 9 and forward, so I can't figure out why this is happening.  I have  read a few things that say the SW RAID will only work with Windows, but why would there be a driver for ESXi that you can download if it won't work?  Thanks.
