Migrate band size RAID 5

$

Hello, good afternoon.

I wanted to ask you what could be the best optimization and efficiency for an 8×6 TB RAID5 array.

Currently I have this band size, and now I'm going to dedicate this RAID to download through P2P, so it will have an intense work of reading, but less than 80/20 writing.

I've been looking, and there are people who say to lower the band size to KiB, but I would like to know your opinion in order to optimize the RAID as much as possible.

Thank you!

HP DL360 Receiving SNMP events from slave servers

I have a group of servers and I am trying to forward SNMP events from these "slave" servers to my HPE DL360. This is my first time doing this and I have done some research but need a few leads. I imagine there is a way I can login to the iLO and view SNMP events when they occur from the group of slave servers. How do I configure my HP DL360 via iLO to accept these SNMP events?

Thank you!

Hi,

i have a HP DL380 GEN10 Server and installed amsd-1.3.2-3016.4.rhel7.x86_64.rpm to montiore the RAID Status of the server.

I used following documentation: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00026111en_us&docLocale=en_US

The problem ist the System Management Assistant daemon comes up normally but with some errors:

DL360Gen9 Network Alarms are never generated

Dears,

I am working on a DL360Gen9 Server having RHEL 7 as OS. Each NIC has 2 network cables plugged. Cables are redundant between the 2 NICs. The four cables are plugged in 2 diffrent charging switches. I have everything configured correctly with the OSS to display the Hw Alarms. Whenever for example I remove one of the Power Cables, I received an alarm.

The problem I am facing that whenever I try to unplug one or all the 4 cables, I never receive any HW Alarm from the alarms defined in the hp_alarm_definitions file.

Here are the expected error codes: (9618002 - 9618006 - 9618008 - 9618012 - 9618014).

As a conclusion, here are the questions:

1- Why whenever I unplug or make ifdown to one of the ports. I never receive a HW Alarm?

2- Is there any specific configuration to make these alarms generate?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Karim Momtaz

1611 Fan Failure for HP ProLiant DL320eGen8

$

Over the weekend my colleague and I returned to the office to find our HP ProLiant server stuck in a boot sequence and failing to initialize because of a 1611-Fan 2 Failure. We undid the chasis and inspected each fan and see no notable problems. If you let the server sit for a while it will boot without issue to Windows Server 2012 R2. After about 60 seconds though you'll hear the fans rev up to max speed and become loud in volume. Windows will report that a Shutdown is requested by the ILO. Startup will continue to cycle with message about a 1611- Fan 2 failure.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with this equipment as the previous admin left. BIOS shows no areas for me to conduct hardware diagnostics. Windows Event Logs show no helpful error messages. The server warranty expired in 2017 giving me no option to consider firmware or alternative BIOS updates. What's the best way for me to confirm the 2nd fan is the issue and how can I best conduct further diagnostics?

Thank you for any assistance.

ML350 P410i replacement drive instantly fails

Four new hot-swappable SAS 300GB (assembly # 652564-B21) drives (drive p/n HGST HUC101830CSS200) were installed and configured as SAS Array B and built as RAID 5 .

After 5 days, one of the drives, bay 6, failed.  Two replacement assemblies (one for a spare), same part number, were ordered  (it was a refurb), but both failed after a couple of seconds.  Rebooting the server did not help.

Tried original failed hard drive and began to rebuild, this process ran for 3 days and failed.  Figured that since it started to rebuild, the bay was good, but not completely sure, could be bas refurbs.

Ordered two new drive assemblies, same part number, and received SAS 300GB (drive p/n HP EG0300FCVBF), the first one also failed after a couple of seconds.

Both drives, the HGST and HP,  appear as data type, 300.0 GB, SAS, PHY count 2, 10.5k speed, transfer speed shown as PHY 1: 6 Gbps, PHY 2: Unknown.

What can be done?

HPE g6 ML370: 2018 BIOS upgrade silently fails

I'm trying to get the new microcode that fixes Meltdown and Spectre.

I've been unable to update from 2013 version of BIOS to 2018.

I've updated from 2013 version of BIOS to 2015.

Still, I've been unable to update from 2015 version of BIOS to 2018.

Any recommendations.

P.S. I've checked the SHA-256 of the 2018 BIOS, it matches what's listed on the HPE Support Site.

Connecting drives to a Smart Array Controller P840

Hello!
I need some help.
I have a DL180 Gen 9 server. There are B140i (embedded storage controller) and P840 (external Smart array controller) in this server. There are three hot-plug drive boxes in this server. One box connected to the P840 controller with a SAS cable (connector from controller's side is wider than connector from drive cage's side).
Two other boxes connected to ports on the mainboard with two cables (connectors on this cables have same width on both sides).
I see through SSA that drives from the first box are connected to the P840 controller, and drives from other boxes are connected to the B140i controller.
How can I connect all my drives to the P840 controller? Should I have to buy a specific cable? Maybe I have to change something in settings and let the P840 controller "see" other drives.
I read a manual and can't find the answer to my question.

How to upgrade iLO- and Server-Firmware for HP ML350 Gen9?

$

Hi there!

I need to upgrade the iLO- and Server-Firmware on my ML350 Gen9 Server. Now i saw that there is an option in the iLO GUI (Web app on another client in the network):

...the current version of the iLO firmware is v2.30, Aug 19 2015.

1. Where can i get the firmware files? (-> There is no warranty anymore!!)

2. Is there another way to upgrade the firmware? (Boot CD/DVD or application for Linux/Windows or something like that?)

Thank you for your feedbacks! :-)

With best regards,

There is the Error: Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 Embedded media initialization failed due to media write-verify test failure

Is the only way to get out of this by replaceing the system board or are there other solutions?

Dual Rank and Single Rank memory on Proliant ML30 Gen9 server.

Hi everyone, I have a Proliant ML30 Gen server whit a Intel Xeon CPU E3-1220 v5, 4GB RAM DDR4 1rx8 2113MHz UNBUFFERED ECC CL15 memory, and the server it's been running out of RAM because I'm virtualizating two machines whit Windows Server 2012 so I need more RAM and I can't find anywhere the especific 8GB RAM for this model, searching only I've found a Kingston 8GB memory KTH-PL421E/8G 8GB DDR4 2113 MHz UNBUFFERED ECC CL15, but i have a single rank memory and this i think it's dual rank; a partner recommended me to buy and install the model KTH-PL424E/8G 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz UNBUFFERED ECC CL17 but the processor doesn't support 2400MHz memory.

The question is, This server model and processor it's compatible whit dual and single rank memory?, Is it possible to work with Dual Rank and Single Rank memory simultaneously?, Can i install a 2400MHz frecuency memory and a 2133MHz whit different CAS latency? (obviously in the configuration mencionated above), Which of the two memories (KTH-PL421E/8G or KTH-PL424E/8G) recommend for this model?

Thanks for your answers and your help.

Replacement Power Supply Proliant DL360 Gen5

This question is about the server I have in my home, so that is why I am still running a G5.  Over Christmas I noticed a fault light and checked it out.  My #2 power supply was showing faulted.  I pulled the supply and reinserted it, but still have the light, and the P/S does not seem to be working.

So Amazon is your friend, I found a part # that matched the faulty P/S and found a great price.  $20 US, refurbed out of NY.  So I ordered 2, and sent them to my sister.  She works in upstate NY and I live near Ottawa Canada.  She dropped them off last night, but when i opened the package, the labeling was slightly different, and the edge connector was quite different.  Now Plugging things in that aren't supposed to go there, is just a recipe for disaster, so I wanted to check and see if anyone knew if the new P/S will work in my Server.

Original P/S:

Model:                                    ATSN-7000956-Y000                          Rev H

REGULATORY MODEL #:    HSTNS-PR02             BUILD OA

GENERIC P/N:                        411076-001

SPARES P/N:                          412211-001

DATE:                                     10/18/2007

Replacement P/S:

Model:                                    DPS-700GB A            REV 01(01M)

REGULATORY MODEL #:    HSTNS-PD06

GENERIC P/N:                       411076-001

HP P/N:                                  393527-001

SPARES P/N:                          412211-001

DATE:

So the question is ... will the new P/S work in my trusty old HP Proliant DL360 Gen 5?

Thanks for the help.

Updating Gen10 running ESXi, struggling with iSUT installation

$

Hi everyone,

I just installed my first Gen10 server, ProLiant ML350 with HPE Cutom Image ESXi 6.7, current version.

Then I tried to update the Firmware and Drivers by using the current version of HP SPP but some components like drivers failed because ISUT is not running on the ESXi.

Unfortunaltey I dont understand how to install the ISUT component on the ESXi. I have read several manuals about that but I just dont get it.

We are using the free ESXi version and therefore dont have vSphere etc. But maybe thats necessary to install ISUT? I am not sure though.

I am stuck at the point where drivers and software are successfully loaded to the iLO interface but then the components are pending and waiting for SUT or ISUT to finally trigger the installation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards

Background parity initialization

Hello eveybody

It's my first time with Raid 50

I've created a Raid 50 using 10 X 300G SAS HDD on DL 380 G10 with p408 controller. I found there is a message which says:

Background parity initialization is in progress : 10% and ... .

- Can I turn server off during this procedure and start it in another time? Or it should be complete before eveyting?

- Is it a ONE TIME process or it will repeat with any drive replacement ?

- If the answer of second question is YES, does it take a long while or cause any performance issue? I read that DELL servers don't show us new drive space before background parity initialization done . What about HPE servers?

I thought a parity initialization with new arraived disks without any data will be complete in a few seconds! How long does it take ?

Hello.

I'm going to buy a ml30 gen10 server and I want to put 2 ssd (raid 1) for the OS and 3 LFF disks for data. Is this possible to do? You have to buy something independent of the server to be able to connect them?
