ML110 Gen 10 server with S100i raid controller not recognising drives

I'm trying to set up a brand new Ml110 Gen 10. Out the box it comes with  S100i controller. I bought 4x HPE 900gb SAS SFF 512e drives (part 870765-b21) which should be compatible, but the controller cannot recognise any drives.

Unplanned server stop

Hello HP Company
I have a prolific ML310 gen8 v2 hp server that suddenly shuts down.
after observation and different tests I realize that the stop is not related to a concern for food.
when booting the computer does not notify any hardware problems.
more when I'm on windows server I have no critical event in the event observers.
Could you give me some pointers to determine the cause of this unplanned stop.

DL380 G10 / RHEL Device Order

Hi, we just purchased a few DL380 G10 SFF 24 servers.  It has the following controllers:

  • E208i-a SR on the system board (RAID 1 for OS in the rear cage)
  • E208i-p SR - Slot 1 driving front cage 1 (mixed mode JBOD)
  • E208i-p SR - Slot 3 driving front cage 2 (mixed mode JBOD)
  • E208i-p SR - Slot 4 driving front cage 3 (mixed mode JBOD)

All disks except the RAID 1 will be JBOD hence the mixed mode.  The issue is; when we boot the system to RHEL (or to install RHEL), the devices (/dev/sdX) are all out of order.  The rear cage OS drives show up as /dev/sdr instead of /dev/sda.  Is there a way to for the BIOS to present these in some sort of logical order?

Initially I disabled all controllers except for the system board controller, so RHEL would install on the correct device, but when I enabled them again, it reverted back.  This never seemed to be an issue with the G9's.  Any suggestions or advice?

Thank you kindly.

The RIBCL subscription has failed.

We had a mainbord replaced in a server this week due to an issue with the embedded flash. Now I cannot get it to register properly with Insight Remote Support. It discovers the server, but I see the following error:

  • Protocol: iLO Remote Insight Board Command Language Protocol (RIBCL)
  • Service: SUBSCRIPTION
  • Type: SUBSCRIPTION
  • Status: FAILURE
  • Description: The RIBCL subscription to servername has failed.
  • Detailed: 1. Check that the connectivity check has passed. Without connectivity, subscriptions will not succeed.
    2. Check that the credentials are still valid.
  • Created: 3/19/2019, 10:33:54 AM
  • Last Updated: 3/21/2019, 1:25:27 AM

The iLO on the server itself says Remote Support Error, when clicking on that I see the following error:

Data Package validation failed: Please retry your last step. If error persists and device is currently registered, unregister and re-register device.

I've deleted the device from IRS and discovered multiple times. I've also manually unregistered and re-regsitered from iLO and keep running into this same issue.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

DL380 Gen9 Problem with PLX PEX8112 chip

Hello,

Our company is currently using the PLX PEX8112 based board in DL380 Gen8 workstations and planning to upgrade to DL380 Gen9 servers.. However, we noticed that the above card does not work with Gen9 Servers (we are using firmware version 2.64).

I noticed that there is an archived thread which points to a similar problem:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktops-Archive-Read-Only/Z440-BIOS-problem-with-PLX-PEX8311-PCI-Express-to-Local-Bus/td-p/5057570

We went ahead and tested on DL380 Gen10 Servers and it seems to work there. So the issue is seen only on Gen9 machines (we use RHEL 7)

Can the BIOS/firmware engineers from HPE look into this issue. I had previously opened a support ticket, but it was closed saying that HPE does not support any third party card in their machine.

The issue is critical for us to be able to ship HPE servers with our product.

Thanks,

- M

SmartArray options

Hi,

We have DL185 G5 12 disk and DL180 G6 12 disk servers which are currently used for backup/archival purposes (hence the 100 series).

Without going to too much expense (i.e. total server replacement) we would like RAID 6 + SSD (read/write) caching options on both. DL185 G5 has a P400 controller and backplane with SFF-8484 connectors and DL180 G6 has a P212 controller and backplane with SFF-8087 connectors.

What controller would have 12 disk, RAID 6 and SSD caching support out-of-the-box?

Thanks

Hello people,

I have a Proliant DL380 G6 and I want to build a GPU into it. To be specific, it is a GTX 960 from ASUS. I am not shure if my 2x460 W power supplys can handle that much. Do you think this is ok or do I need more power ? If yes, how should I do that ?

Regards,
Lukas

Hello people,

I have a Proliant DL380 G6 and I want to build a Graphics card into it. To be specific, it is a GTX 960 from Asus. The card When I now want to build it in, I am pretty shure I need a pcie slot riser, which one would you recommend? And also, can I just plug the card in on the SAS Connector A or B on the motherboard? If no, how would I get power to the card? I post a picture of my server below.

ESXi in ProLiant DL120 G7

On an HPE page, it says that the ProLiant DL120 G7 server is not compatible with the most current versions of vSphere.

I would like to know which are the most advantageous versions, because the HPE website says they are compatible with ProLiant G9 or later.
I would also like to know where to find drivers for each version as they are also not available on the manufacturer's website.

Thanks

I have a ML350p Gen8 which I'm trying to monitor with SNMP but I can't do an SNMP walk against the Windows OS.

In SMH, I can see the status of the hardware, all good:

In services, I have 'Accept SNMP packets from any host':

But if I do a SNMP walk, I don't get anything back:

retro fitting E5-2470V2 to a Proliant DL360e

Hi,

I've tried fitting two E5-2470V2 to a Proliant DL360e that came with two E5-2450Ls fitted. With the new processors the server fails to reach the POST screen, its OK with the original CPUs back.

As the 2470V2 were an original CPU option for this model, Is there a firmware update I can apply or something else I could try to use these faster CPU's?

Thanks in advance,

Robert.

ML150 G5 - Connecting SATA drives to system SATA ports via HDD cage backplane?

$

I received an old ML150 G5 server and am using to learn about HP servers and evolution of the range.

The server has a HDD cage with backplane (part 459191-001). In the cage are SATA drives only <2TB (no SAS). I have connected the backplane directly to the System I/O SATA ports 1-4 with a SFF-8484 32 Pin to 4x SATA 7 Pin cable (I believe is equivalent to part 459190-001).

I was not sure if the backplane can only be used with a controller in PCI Express slot, but am trying this way because there is a diagram, page 60 of the HP ProLiant ML310 G5 Maintenance and Service Guide under heading "SATA hard drive cabling" clearly showing connection from backplane direct to the mainboard SATA ports. I know the ML310 is not exactly the same as the ML150 but its using the same cage and backplane and cable...

However no drives are found, via IDE, AHCI or RAID. The CD drive is found, and SATA drives are found when I completely bypass the backplane and connect individually to the SATA ports on the mainboard, so I know the SATA ports are working.

So, is it possible to connect SATA drives to system SATA ports via the HDD backplane with ML150 G5?

Forgive for asking about such an old server, but I hope there is someone here who remembers... Though I do not expect to use the hot-swap feature of the cage it would be nice to use for SATA drives connected to the motherboard ports.

For bonus question: Can anyone say what the 2 jumper pins and 2 connectors on the top-right of the backplane are, or point me to documentation? A good image is here

New Failover/DR Setup

Hi Guys, I have a client that has bought 4 DL380 servers (2PR and 2DR) as well as 2 MSA 2050 (1PR and 1DR).

The environment is purely Windows, hence Hyper-V will be in use for virtualization. Any advice on how to achieve HA/Failover across the two sites?

Is MSA replication and clustering able to achieve this?

HPE Dual 8GB MicroSD Enterprise Midline USB install

Hello,

I would like to know if anyone has tried migrating the 8GB card from the internal SD slot on a Gen 9 server to the HPE Dual 8GB MicroSD Enterprise Midline USB?

I'm trying to figure out if it's necessary to do a fresh install to the dual SD USB adapter or just replace one of the cards with the current VMWare install on another HP 8GB card.
