Old Server Help

I have an old HP ML350 G% that I use in a lab environment. Last week the system just cut off out of the blue. I have dual Xeon processors, dual HP power supplies, and 32 GB ram. I am seeing a red internal health light blinking. When I turn the system on it powers up but only runs. No boot or power to the hard disk. I have an amber light on led for processor 1 and processor 2. I have pulled out the power supplies one at a time and still no change. I suspect the power distribution unit. Any suggestion or help would be appreciated.

RAM configuration/detection error DL380 G7

Hi. After a Maintenance job (Dry air cleaning and visual check) , a DL380 Gen7 server can't boot. In the insight panel appears a Ram error (All leds in ambar). After so many test, the error seems be a no detectable RAM. The server only has 1 CPU in the #1 Slot and 2x2gb RAM in A-B slots. Until yesterday works fine. After the shutdown and maintenance, the error appears.

This's already done:

* Deep cleaning of DIMM slots and memory's pin (Dry pressed air, electronic contact cleaner, etc)

* Deep cleaning of whole motherboard, including full disassembling.

* Change ram for new modules in same configuration.

* Reset of NVRAM (in dipswitch 6 on maintenance switch)

* Check in ILO (Error: Memory configuration error)

* Only for test purposes, change to #2 Slot Proc and RAM. In this point, the server boot, display video and obviously, appears the PROC1 error and the system is halted (In insight panel and display).

My questions:

It's possible a damage ini the DIMM slots that make this fail?

May be due a missuse in the manteinance job?

It's possible change the configuration for use only a #2 Proc?

Please, I' really need repair this server and i' don't know what else to do

Moving Gen9 image to Gen10

I have a new DL380 and it's the first Gen10 machine I've worked with.   I have an image of a Gen9 380 and assumed I could use it on this unit.   During the imaging process I discovered I needed to add a RAID driver to my imaging drive as the Gen10 driver is apparently no longer a native Windows2016 driver.

However I cannot boot the new server once it's imaged, I get a missing boot device.  I can't even see the raid volume in diskpart.   I surmised that the driver is the issue.    I loaded my image on a Gen9 box and attempted to install the new Gen10 driver (SmartPqi) but the machine is not a DL380 and therefore the driver won't install.   Otherwise I'd get it installed then take an image and write to the new box.   I have had no issues moving this image onto different HP servers so if I could get the driver to somehow install I think I'd be good.

So I'm kinda stuck here and hoping not to have build a whole new image from scratch simply because it contains many hours of custom software installs that I would have to redo.     Any help/ideas are appreciated.

DL360 Gen10 iLO5 does not complete firmware update

Hi, I have a trouble with updating firmaware for DL360 Gen10.

I was tring install an ESXi6.7 U1 on DL360 Gen10 though iLO5.  The installation failed couple of time(this is a main issue but out of scope of this paticular thread)  and I've got this message says "Ingelligent Provisioning" needs to be reinstalled.  So I downloaded the ISO image(3.00.382) and installed it.  The installation seemed sucis cessfully completed.  And then the iLO said there is an update(3.20.154) available so I initiated update though iLO, however;  it neither completed or failed but kept showing the message "Waiting to be processed... 0%" on the Job Viewer for the last couple of days.

Could anyone knows how to cancel the job?  It'll be greate if any suggestions to solve this firmware update issue?  Thanks you for your kind support.

Hello,

I would like to configure a server with the following components

P06453-B21 - DL360 GEN10 4110 1P 16G-STOCK - base server
872487-B21 - 4TB SAS 12G 7.2K LFF SC-STOCK - as backup-disc
867978-B21 - DL360 G10 SATA M.2 2280-STOCK - for enabling the system with a M.2 SSD

and a Samsung SSD 970 Pro M.2 2 TB SSD - as boot/systm disc
and debian linux as OS

Would the system run like this and boot from the ssd, or can there be problems if the ssd is not a hpe-part?

Are there warrenty-problems from HPE if I use a part of a third party - in this case Samsung?

Can there be problems when I use debian linux?

Thank you very much and greetings form austria

I just bought a used ML150 G9 for learning more about servers. It booted fine with WS 2012.  I tried to install WS 2016 from a USB stick but something went wrong. It ajust stops at this point and doesnt continue. Nothing happens when I push F9, F11 or F12. I have tried with and without both USB-stick and disks. No error messages, nothing.

iLO 4 firmware update failure, stuck on "Checking HP Secure Digital Signature" and 1% flash progress

$

Hello, I am trying to update the iLO 4 firmware on a ProLiant DL360p Gen8.   It's an ESXi host.  It's currently running iLO Firmware v1.5.1.  I am trying to update it to 2.61, same as our other servers.   I have done this update many times through the iLO Web Interface, by uploading the ilo4_261.bin file, etc.

A coworker of mine tried to update this particular server with this method, several weeks ago.  For some reason, this particular server has failed to update.  It is stuck on the screen of "Checking HP Secure Digital Signature" and at the bottom of the screen, indicates "Firmware Flash Progress: 1 %".  This never changes, it's been at this screen for weeks.  I see no option to cancel it, or try it again, etc.

I have tried so many things to resolve this, here is a list:

  • Tried resetting/restarting the iLO itself from the Diagnostics page.  Though no errors are generated, it does not seem to actually restart looking at the iLO Event Log.  I believe this is because it thinks it's updating the firmware still.
  • This error / failure to update I'm seeing, is actually  mentioned in the HP iLO 4 user guide.  It says the resolution is to "hponcfg -r" from the command line.  I have done this from the /var/hp/tools/ install on ESXi on the server, and while it did succesfully reset settings to defaults, and wiped my user accounts out etc, the iLO still thinks that it's trying to update the firmware and the message is unchanged!
  • I also tried rebooting the iLO using a RIBCL script, that invokes the "<RESET_RIB/>" command.  This too runs as expected, no errors, but does not seem to actually reset at all.   The firmware still thinks it's updating, and remains unchanged.
  • I built a script to update the iLO firmware from the command line using hponcfg.  I verified the firmware location is valid (local, in the same folder) as are the user credentials.  This fails with the following error.  I can see this error in the RIBCL guide, and the error guide, but there is no explanation of what this error actually means or how to resolve it!  Very frustrating.  I am assuming that this error is just saying it's failing to flash, and perhaps that's for the same reason as why the WebUI didn't flash either? Here's the error in the full output:
/opt/hp/tools # ./hponcfg -f firmware.xml
HP Lights-Out Online Configuration utility

Version 4.4-0 (c) Hewlett-Packard Company, 2014
Firmware Revision = 1.51 Device type = iLO 4 Driver name = hpilo
iLO IP Address: 0.0.0.0
</-- ERROR : STATUS= 0x005E
MESSAGE= Open flash part failed. -->
Script failed
/opt/hp/tools #

I'm basically out of ideas.  The only thing left I can think to do, is to have the client go on site, and physically disconnect the server from power.  As this is a high availability host that is typically only remotely managed, I am trying to do whatever we can, to avoid that.

Is there anything else that can be done to try and clear this error?  Thank you!

ML150 G9 SATA power for LFF Drive enablement kit

I recently purchased a LFF Drive Enablement Kit for my ML150 G9 server. However, I found out that it only includes SATA data cables, and not the motherboard 8 pin to 2 SATA power connector. I can find references to the cable in manuals, but not the part number. Can someone point me in the right direction to getting this cable? It's item 1 in the diagram "LFF drive enablement cabling"  https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05054392

2- when im installing win server 2016 he can't see the hard disks or the RAID config that i made on the server (we couldn'tfind any driver.to get a storage drivers click load driver) and also the IP express OS installation can't proceed with the installation.

10k vs 15k SAS in 2019?

$

We have been in the process of researching different servers, and in this process several sales have told us the following: There is really no perforamnce increase going to 15k that justifies the cost, and that 10k vs 15k benchmark difference is neglible.

In our existing DL380 we have a mix of one array being 15k and a second array with midline 7200k drives. The performance is amazingly noticeable. I would like to hear from some real world users rather than sales whether there is a benefit to going with 15k 2.5" SAS vs 10K 2.5" SAS

The purpose of these servers are to run ESXi with a RAID 10 array holding the datastores. We don't need a gazillion terabytes of storage, but do need cost effective performance (stress cost as we have already excluded SSDs as too expensive).  We are currently looking at DL380 G10

Hello,

We have a DL20 Gen10 w/ E-2186G CPU and an Integrated Matrox G200 GPU.

The E-2186G CPU theoretically contains a Intel® UHD Graphics P630 processor. Is there any chance we can disable the Matrox one which is the default GPU and use the Intel one instead in Win10/Win Server 2016?
