has my reseller sold me an already used ML110 g10?

Hello!
I bought an HP ml110 g10 on April 26 online and received the device yesterday. This is the first time, i own a new proliant, before i always had old, used HP servers for my homelab.
Today i wanted to Register the server on hpe site for being able to download Firmware. I wanted to link the warranty to my hp account but got error message. Then i checked the warranty on HP site and it tells me that date of purchase is 28.03.2019. this is not the date i purchased (See above).
Now i was alarmed and checked the Server for signs that it could be already used. What makes me wonder:
The USB stick with the HP rapid setup Software is already placed inside internal USB port. There are only 6 blind modules filling the drive bays of the 8x sff drive cage. There is a sticky rest on the top of the case, as there was a sticker there before that has been removed.
And of course the fact that i cannot Register the Server and this strange date of purchase when checking warranty.
On the other side the package of the Server seemed to be originally sealed.
What do you think? Do above issues indicate that this Server was preowned and registered? or is this all normal and i am just too stupid to register it correctly?
Thanks for answers,
barry

Dear,

I have a DL380 G7 Server that have only 2 LFF Bay.

I want to buy a Hard Disk Drive for Server, the HDD that i want to buy is 2*1.2TB 6G SAS SFF (2.5-inch).

my question: Is HDD Physical Form Factor (LFF or SFF) matter to Server Bay (LFF or SFF)?

because the HDD i want to buy is SFF (2.5) and the bay that i have is (LFF).

Thanks

HP proliant dl380e gen8 - Access home server/iLO over VPN ?

Hey All,

Just a bit of personal back ground. Im relatively new to networking/servers. Passed CCENT last week and studying towards MCSA 2016 Win Server certification. Working in a GPS related industry.

Recently I have setup iLO for my 8th gen dl380, which was interesting. However, I am looking at studying remotely so would like access to iLO/Remote Access feature from external networks.

I have read a few articles on how this can be accomplished, however would like your opinion on which Router I should acquire (not compromising my current speeds etc). Currently I have a ISP issued router (2 of those actually) - Huawei HG659b. From what I've read it provides basic VPN passthrough, however it does not allow DDWRT/Tomato firmware upgrades.  I have a fibre 100mbit connection (Chorus Fibre termination box installed inside home premises).

Basically, the main points I wish to achieve -

1. Connect to Server ILO interface  from external network.
2. Have  the option to turn off/on the server using ILO UI buttons as required (to save electricity and not having to worry about my house burning to rubble whilst im away). I can do this easly on home network but not sure how this could be impacted by the VPN (if at all)?

3. Hopefully the latency would be minor and I would still be able to achieve acceptable level of Labbing (for study).

4. Have you had the experience with this before for primarily ILO/Remote access purposes?

Would anyone have experience with this , I am seeking any advice on which router I should get, DDNS /VPN providers etc. All information/diagrams/resources are most welcome :)

Kind regards

I'm new to HPE products, and I have purchased a used ml350p which I plan to use sata ssds. It will come with a P420 and it would seem the H220 might be a good choice for HBA mode. Can I remove P420i if not to be used?

Hi.

I have a small problem with my server.

I have put 12 2 GB DIMM blocks into the server and followed the order on the cabinet A, B, C and so on.

And it boots perfect with the 12 ram blocks. But when i reach the letter G it in the order it reports error.

It is the same RAM type as the others, and i tried different RAM blocks. But no luck.

Does anyone have any idea? Sorry if english is a little bad, I'm a Dane.

Hi,

We're upgrading CPUs in Hp Proliant DL-160G6 from 2 x Intel Xeon x5675 to 2 x Intel Xeon x5690. When we mount x5690 cpus , server doesn't boot. We've also updated the bios but still in vain.

These CPUs are supposed to be supported on this chassis.

Awaiting your advice on it!

Dl380 Gen9 (CPU E5-2640 v3) Unexpected Reset

last month we faced twice unexpected reboot server DL380 Gen9 with following error message:

Cffffapture.PNG

I found that error messages was exactly  (scenario 2 and scenario 3 ) described inside  Advisory: ProLiant Gen9 Series Servers - Unexpected Reset or Shutdown May Occur on ProLiant Gen9 Servers , Document ID: a00060570en_us

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00060570en_us

One thing is missing!!! the Advisory scope is for  E5-2600 v4  and  E5-4600 v4 Series , while my server is E-2600 V3 series.

is there any updated version of previous advisory to cover V3  series  ?

or our unexpected reboot problem is not related to that Advisory?

hp dl360p Gen8 drive array controller failure slot 0

Hi All,

Recently updated RAID controller firmware version to 8.32 after a recent lockup of the RAID controller on a DL360pGen8 causing the server to freeze with the following message log in the hp IML log  :

CRITICAL: Drive Array Subsystem - Drive Array Controller Failure (Slot 0)

But for some strange reason had another lockup on another DL360pGen8 server with the same critical errors shown in the IML logs post firmware update to 8.32 :

CRITICAL: Drive Array Subsystem - Drive Array Controller Failure (Slot 0)

The only indication of the fault is in the IML log shown above. Also, after conducting 2x reboots on the same server the machine came online successfully and since then can't see the fault/lockup/array controller failure happen again.

Can someone put me in the right direction to ascertain the reason behind the P420i array controller failure after updating to fw version 8.32 ? Are there any special logs I can retrive to get more info about the fault ? Is there anyway to simulate the fault again since it seems to be an intermittent fault ?

Thanks

iLO SNMP Pass-thru

Hi,

I am trying to understand the purpose of iLO SNMP Pass-thru.

What are the main reasons for using it?

Will it pass SNMP Traps through to the HOST operating system, and if so would a RHEL 7 snmpd forward those traps onto an external monitoring system?

If SNMP GET commands are passed thru to the HOST and responses are returned to iLO, does that eliminate the need to perform SNMP queries on the HOST?

Regards John

Do, or did, the DL360PG8 servers allow for NIC bonding/NIC teaming (whereby a single IP is used for two (2) separate network interfaces)?

HP Proliant DL580 Gen8 and GPU's

$

Dear all,

I'm a PhD student at KU Leuven university.  I have a HP Proliant DL 580 Gen8 server with 3 GPU's at my disposal. Lately we've been experiencing full system shutdowns. The main thing that has changed is that I added an additional GPU. I'm certain that is is related but I don't know the exact cause.
In the iLO we get the following message at 'Integrated Management Log':
System Power Fault Detected (XR: 10 A2 MID: BF 0F F0 00 00 FF 3F 0B 0B 04 04 0B 0B 0B 0B 04 04 ....)

The server setup:
HP PROLIANT DL580 Gen8 4X I-XEON E7-4850v2 12-CORE 2.30GHZ 512GB DDR3 RAM P830i 2GB RACK RAILS
4x 1500W Power
2x Geforce RTX2080Ti, 1x Geforce GTX1080Ti
CentOS

We think it's related to the GPU causing power issues/heat issues (although measured values are within accepted values).
By removing one GPU and limiting the average power to 220W for each CPU we haven't experienced any outages so far.
Does someone have any experience with this server along with GPU's? I was also wondering what the 10-pin MOLEX auxiliary power connectors can provide? Now a single MOLEX is used to power one GPU. Also, does it matter which connector I use?

All information is welcome.
Thanks!

Best,
Gert

How best to manage firmware for Proliant Servers running ESXi

$

What's the best way to manage firmware for the Proliant servers?  I have DL 380s some with Gen 9, some with Gen 10.   Is there a better way to manage firmware than booting from the iso on the ILO port on every server?  It takes about an hour a piece to do each way and there has to be a more effective way to do this.  Such as centralized management.  The servers are running ESXi.

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks.
