ProLiant DL380G6 - error 640006 and POST Error 1779

Hi there,

we have a ProLiant DL380G6,  Logical drive 2 is a Raid5 consisting of 3 hard drives  (3, 4, and 5).

The HP Diagnose tool has indicated that drive 4 has failed (error 640006) and recommends replacement.

We have hot swapped the drive 4 out with a new hard drive, but Logical drive 2 has disappeared, POST Error 1779-Drive array Controller dects replacement drives came up.

We put back the original hard drive and re-enabled array config the system is running fine now, but error 640006 still comes up when we run HP Diagnoses, I am a bit nervous in swapping it out and same thing happens again.

I am just wondering why has this occurred? We have replaced hard drive before and have never lost the logical drive.  Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Cheers

Jason

Hi,

I'm trying to enable syslog on a iLO4 1.51 from command line, using hponcfg v4.2.0 under CentOS 6.5.

I've successfully configured REMOTE_SYSLOG_SERVER_ADDRESS and REMOTE_SYSLOG_PORT, but I still can't switch REMOTE_SYSLOG_ENABLE to Y :

# cat << EOF |hponcfg -i> <RIBCL VERSION="2.0">> <LOGIN USER_LOGIN="xxx" PASSWORD="xxx">> <RIB_INFO MODE="write" >> <MOD_GLOBAL_SETTINGS>> <REMOTE_SYSLOG_ENABLE VALUE="Y" />> </MOD_GLOBAL_SETTINGS>> </RIB_INFO>> </LOGIN>> </RIBCL>> EOF

NIC Insight Notifications

I'm setting up a few new servers.

My existing servers are windows 2008, use HP's Nic Teaming software, and if a connection fails for any reason (cable unplugged, nic failure, port on switch, etc), I get a notification from Insight that its degraded.

Now on the new servers, Windows 2012, using MS NIC Teaming and the team is for Hyper-V so it is made not available to the host.  Now I get no notifications.  If one is unplugged, the network adapter shows as unplugged in Windows, but the SMH has no info on it under Network Adapters (my guess is becuase it is being segragated from the host by Hyper-V), although it does show up in the IML that they are down.  I can confirm Event Notification is working otherwise as i'm getting notifications about power supply redundancy, iLo NIC status, etc.

Has anyone seen a solution or workaround for this?  I can't find anything in MS NIC teaming that allows for notification.

DL180, vSphere triggers strange alarm: Host storage status

Hey folks,

Early in the morning we noticed an alarm on one of our hosts; Host storage status.

Sensors show me this (the forum does not allow me to insert the screenshot):

(here the disks that are fine)

and then...

- Disk 5 on HPSA1 : Port 2I Box 1 Bay 5 : 0GB : Data Disk : Disk Error
- Disk 6 on HPSA1 : Port 2I Box 1 Bay 6 : 0GB : Data Disk : Disk Error

- HP Smart Array P410 Controller: Slot 1 : HPAS1

- Logical Volume 1 on HPSA1 : RAID 1 + 0 : 931GB : Disk 1,2,3,4
- Logical Volume 2 on HPSA2 : RAID 1 :: 1862GB : Disk 5,6 : Failed

The strange fact here is that this host does not have any physical disk on those bays (5 and 6) and never had.

No amber light on current disks on bays 1, 2, 3 and 4 neither.

Server information:

- ESXi 5.1.0 , 799733 -

- Image profile: HP-ESXi-5.1.0-standard-iso

- Hardware: HP ProLiant DL180 G6

- Managed by vCenter and non part of a cluster

- has no iLO

- Current Offline bundle: 1.3.5

Does anyone have any clue why this could be happening? Why this alarm could be triggered?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I have a HP proliant ml310 g5 server with two 250 GB sata disks (raid1 – embedded raid controller). More free disk space is required. So I added two 1 TB SATA hotadd disks. In the embedded raid controller bios I configured also a raid 1. But my problem is now that Windows Server 2008 does not show me any new disk. Not even the HP Storage Manager shows me a new disk!

I updated all drivers and firmware with current SPP. I tried also a other HP disks, but with no success.

Has anyone a tipp for me?

Thank you in advance.

Best wishes

I have found the solution to install the OS manually. After a manually installation there is no HP-Software on the Server (ACU, etc.) and no drivers (Graphiccard, etc.).

I dont find any drivers and software from HP.

I want the SmartStart back! :-)

Thanks for any help.

Converting to RAID on ML 330

$

I have a client who has a ML 330 and it only had one drive in it.  Of course it is full and they have asked me to replace the drive with a bigger one.  Seeing that there was no RAID on the machine initially, I opted to set up RAID 0+1 with the new drives.  I was able to set up the RAID array and image the original drive to the RAID array, however it won't boot because Windows 2008R2 did not have the drivers for the RAID controller.  I was able to convert back to the standard SATA controller and booted to the drive and was able to add the drivers for the B110i controller and then switch back to the RAID controller, however it still won't boot.  Any suggestions as to how I can get this to successfully boot using the RAID controller?

Hi,
In ML370 G2 server, only one disk drive is not detected by the OS. The server has a drive cage of six hard drives. Drive cage si also replaced with the new one, but still the drive is not detected. Also no RIAD is configured, then, i test the hard drive, by swapping the two hard drives. After swapping the hard drives, again one is detected and other not. It means hard drive didn't have any problem...........Plz guide me what can i do next !!

RAID 6 OS issues on DL380

$

I have a friend that has the issues i am about to describe... A DL380 G5 with 8 HDDs and smart arry P410 was configured with ONLY RAID6 for all the 8 drives with 4 logical volumes. The OS is win2k3. One day, the users couldn't connect and when the sys admin got to the server room, he only saw on the screen.. "a disk read error occurred". He inserted the HP smartstart CD and saw that two of the drives have failed and required to be replaced. Because it was RAID6, he replaced the 2 drives and the rebuilding process started which took a long time like 16hrs hrs to complete. After the completion, the OS wasn't still coming up, so he decided if he could use the bootable OS to repair the OS on the server but the bootable OS CD wasn't booting. The only CD that boots on the server is the smartstart CD. He now decided to use the smartstart CD to install OS on the logical Volume1 since he is sure that is where the win2k3 OS was. After loading the smartstart CD and about to start the process of re-installing the OS, the C drive but got a message....." Ready to install" warning! Pressing "Next" will install the selected OS and will reset all drives to a freshly installed state. data currently on this server will be lost-- this is normal when installing OS."    Now the question is this.... How can this OS be repaired or be re-installed without losing the data on the Drives apart from the volume that has OS which is the logical volume1 ( drive C)???

Firmware Upgrade disks

$

Hi all,

I have a Compaq DL380 g2. The server uses a Smart Array 5300 SCSI controller (FW version 2.32), with 4 disks of 18Gb connected to it.

When the server is rebooted and initializes it's smart array controller, a message appears in the POST screen --> SCSI Port 1: SCSI Disk 2 needs a firmware upgrade.

So I have checked the controller with insight manager, and found that the specified disk is another model disk then the others.

A few questions:
1. Does it matter if all disks in a Array are not from the same model.
2. What will happen if the disk is not upgraded with the latest firmware, Performance loss????

thanks for your time.
Remco
