Hello, I have checked an existing Raid configuration on an DL380G7 with a P410i smart controller. I coud se that on the controller are strange settings configured. (see attachment for the hpcucli export) . For example cache ratio : 100% write and 0% write. I think that is not a recomendet configuration for a server. Can someone give me some input for this configuration example? I have a raid 5 with 4x 450GB SAS discs.

Proliant DL360 G5 - BSOD with PCIe eSATA card installed
I have a proliant DL360 G5, its being used for Symantec Backup Exec for our main servers. We were using an external hard drive linked with USB to store full backups on, this took forever, so I purchased a Rosewill RC-225 PCIe eSATA card to speed up data transfer speeds.
However, whenever this card is installed even in both slots, I get a BSOD when booting to windows 2008. I removed the card and installed drivers, then re-installed card and still having the same issue.
Is this a BIOS or firmware issue? Any suggestions?
HP ML350 G6 - NC326i PCIe Dual Port NIC - Problems after upgrade
We are in the process of upgrading firmware and drivers on 40 of the above servers.
I am using the HPSUM utility and downloaded the latest support pack with al lthe necessary drivers and firmware updates for the system and the operatiing system whcih is Windows Server 2008 32bit.
This all seems to have worked fine but now if I try to open the properties of the Loal Area Connection for either of the ports on the NIC I get an error pop up saying
"Some of the controls on this property sheet are disabled because on or more other Netowrk property sheets are already opem"
I know no one else is on the server and I have rebooted it to make sure but I still get this error.
I have searched for help on this and all the suggestions say to uninstall the NIC's, reboot and then let Windows find the drivers and all will be well. I have tried this but it does not work for me!
This is exactly the same on two server so far and I do not want to carry on with the other 38 until I can find a resolution to this problem.
Anyone got any ideas or seen this behaviour before?
Rob.
DL360p Gen8, B120i Controller and Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials..., total nightmare!
Hi, I would really appreciate any help on this one..., I'm having a nightmare building a new DL360p Gen8 with a B120i RAID Controller and Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials...
The server is a brand new HP DL360p Gen8 E5-2630 1 x CPU, 8GB RAM, 2 x 1TB HDD (RAID 1), which we are installing HP's own ROK version of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials..
Right from the start of this there seems to have been issues.. I would add that the hardware of the server seems to check out okay...
I started by trying to use the INTELEGENT PROVISIONING to install the O/S, but it wouldn'y have that and said that it didn't recognise the version of Windows we were trying to install..., not a good start...
I then created the RAID1 array and installed the O/S by booting from the Windows install CD... This seemed to work okay.. I ran Windows Updates and installed the latest Proliant Service Pack, HP_Service_Pack_for_Proliant_2014.06.0_784915_001_spp_2014.06.0-SPP2014060.2014_0618.4, and this is where the problems started...
The install of the SP took ages..., approx 3-4 hours!.., and then once we were back up and running there seemed to be other speed issues with the whole thing..., but I didn't seem to be getting any errors reported in the Event Viewer.. I tried rebuilding the server a couple more times, in slighly different ways but the problems persisted..
In the end I ran out of time as I had to install it on the customer site the next day, so I built it without installing any of the HP drivers or Service Packs, and this seemed to work to a point...
The server is now live but I'm still having problems such as when you run up Disk Management, it just sits there and says "Loading Disk Configuration Information", I also cannot seem to run any backups to an external drive.. It all seems to point to the drivers running the controller...
To this end I started investigating more, and I see from the forums that there are a shed load of problems with this HP controller, B120i and WSE 2012 R2...
I've followed this further and this lead me to two updates...
The first was update cp020819.exe, which put a much newer version of the controller driver on the server, 62.8.0.64 (10 Jan 2014)... This did seem to make things a bit better, but I still could not run a backup, and general speed issues again with the drive...
To this end I looked a bit further, and I found cp022624.exe which again took me to a newer version, 62.10.0.64 (13 Mar 2014)... This seemed to be a lot better and I could open Disk Management.., but it was intermittant at best..., again, if I try a backup it just runs up and says it is starting but goes no further...
We are now getting errors in the Event Viewer such as ;
The IO operation at logical block address for Disk \Device\0000003a (PDO name: ) was retried.

I'm really lost with all this... My problem is that this is now a live server and if I mess it all up by installing further HP Service Packs and lose access to it, I'm in big pooh.., but I don't have any backups yet, so I'm very worried in case I get bigger problems..
When I first started having the problems, I contacted HP and they advised I download and install the latest SP.., but as I mentioned above that just caused even more problems... As I cannot put any HP software on the box it's hard to get more feedback...
I'm sure I'm looking in the right area here..., as I found others with similar problems with this O/S and this contoller..
I would really appreciate any help with this one..
I've built loads and loads of HP servers but never had so many problems...
Which Server?
We are a small firm that want to buy a new HP server.
We really want to make sure that this server is capable of hyper-v in Windows sbs 2008.
We are looking at the following models:
638328-421
743735-425
768638-421
768647-425
743490-421
Does anybody know which model is capable of doing so?
thanks!
Trying to create usb to flash rompaq on proliant DL380 G6, copies my %userprofile%\Download folder?
Hello
I have the strangest issue creating the thumb drive to flash the rompaq on the server.
I downloaded the proper rompaq from the page: SP63007.exe
(I can't point the right http address, because that part of the hp website seems to be down today)
install and follow the instructions, a program called: c:\SWSetup\SP63007\ROMPaq USB Key\HPQUSB.exe
Select my flash drive and start the process, take a long time, like 6 or 7 minutes, and when it's done, i have in the flash drive copied my entire contents of %userprofile%\Downloads folder (no boot files, no rompaq bios)
OK, maybe the HPQUSB doesn't like my computer and somewhat confuses it.
repeat the process on my Thinkpad, now it creates the boot files, but instead of copy the rompaq, it copies my entire content of %appdata%\Desktop
what is going on?
This is the first time I flash a server, but I have some experience flashing from motherboards, notebooks, gpus, harddrives, etc I have never seen tomething like this.
My os is Windows 7 64 bit, without SP1. installed on C: drive (both machines have SSD's )
the desktop is a ASUS mobo with six core AMD phenom cpu, 8 GB ram, samsung 840 pro ssd.
the notebook is thinkpad t430, i5, 8gb, with intel msata ssd.
I am lost.
will try again with a virtualized XP to see if I can do it there.
any ideas?
thank you!
HardDrives for proliant
Hi: can you point me into the right direction? I have a proliant ML380G8 with W2k8R2 server installed.
I have 8 SATA hard drives installed each one of them 300GB.
I have a RAID configuration of:
RAID 1 (ONE HARDDRIVE ) C:\Drive with 279 GB
RAID 5 (SEVEN HARDRIVES) D:\Drive with 1.4 TB.
I would like to add some more space on my D: drive but not sure how to configure them... maybe 4 600 GB harddrives?
What's the process?
DL320e NMI parity error
Ok HP Gurus.
New Servers as per above. Document included mentions the NMI Parity error issue on shutdown for W2K8R2 or W7. MS link to kb2845432 also states the same.
Says to edit registry etc etc. No problem, IF someone could tell me which version of the AHCI these are running or how to find out??
two versions:
8C02
8C03
Both have different reg binary entry requirements. Which one, or should I just create both and call it a day.

HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) install on DL360 G7
Hello all.
We have two vendor configured ProLiant DL360 G7 servers running RHEL 4.8.
We are trying to install the latest SPP on these host by locally running the hpsum GUI to check the inventory and then deploy the appropriate updates.
Unfortunately, because of the how these servers were built, vendor requirements, there is no way to start the hpsum GUI (no gnome desktop, KDE,...).
Is anyone aware of an hpsum TUI (text user interface) that functions the same as the GUI?
I didn't see a reference to any TUI in the hpsum user guide only the CLI.
With the CLI, it looks like you have to manually specify which packages you want to install.
We aren't certain what's all needed on this server and would prefer to have the utility determine that.
Also, given the OS running on these servers, RHEL 4.8, we aren't certain the latest SPP is appropriate for it.
We don't see RHEL 4 explicitly listed in the SPP documentation.
Would we have to use an older version of SPP or Proliant Support Pack (PSP)?
If someone could please reply to the OS version and hpsum TUI questions asked here, it would really be appreciated.
Thanks all.
RAID5 standby disk
Hello,
I wouldl iek to ask if it is possible to use a 1tb hard disk if my existing raid are 72gb?
Also may I ask if there is a available slot on the server can I plug a emtpy hard drive? What will happen if I plug it?
Please adbvise. Thanks.

Retrieve information from iLo using HPQLOCFG
I am currently trying to retrieve information from the iLO using HPQLOCFG.exe v.1.0.0
The details I am after are
- Fan Speed
- Ambient Temperature
- Physical Disk Status
Using the following script provided by HP in the Scripting guide
<RIBCL VERSION="2.22">
<LOGIN USER_LOGIN="login" PASSWORD="password">
<SERVER_INFO MODE="read">
<GET_EMBEDDED_HEALTH/>
</SERVER_INFO>
</LOGIN>
</RIBCL>
retrieves quite a bit of detail including the first 2 bits of information which I should be able to extract using VBScript the thing it does not give me is the disk status
The following is also in the guide
An expanded version is also available (see example below). Not all tags are required, however
if no tags are specified then the command operates as if all the tags are listed and outputs all of
the embedded health data:
<RIBCL VERSION="2.22">
<LOGIN USER_LOGIN="login" PASSWORD="password">
<SERVER_INFO MODE="read">
<GET_EMBEDDED_HEALTH>
<GET_ALL_FANS/>
<GET_ALL_TEMPERATURES/>
<GET_ALL_POWER_SUPPLIES/>
<GET_ALL_VRM/>
<GET_ALL_PROCESSORS/>
<GET_ALL_MEMORY/>
<GET_ALL_NICS/>
<GET_ALL_STORAGE/>
<GET_ALL_HEALTH_STATUS/>
</GET_EMBEDDED_HEALTH>
</SERVER_INFO>
</LOGIN>
</RIBCL>
When I try to run this XML I get a <RESPONSE STATUS="0X0001" MESSAGE='Error: Line #3: syntax error near ">".'
Any help would be appreciated as I think the <GET_ALL_STORAGE> tag will pass me the information I need
RAID notifications
We have been using HP servers for the past three years for our XenServer platforms and they work good. BUT we cannot figure out how to get the RAID controller to send us alerts when a drive fails. In Dell, the controller has this option (which is great from a management standpoint!) but we cannot find this with the HP equipment.
We manage dozens of clients with HP servers on the XenServer (linux) platform. How can we get the hardware to notify us when there is a drive issue (or any other system level problems)?
HP server SSD performance
Hello all, we are looking for server ssd's suitable for massive write io as temp DB storage for MS SQL 2014.
During pre-purchase tests on Smart Array p830i (2GB cache) we have strange results - 2 ssd in raid0 configuration have the same performance as single ssd. In our test case it means 4500 iops random write with 4k block size, measured with Flexible IO Meter under Win 2012r2 on HP DL580 gen8. SSD Smart Path is enabled by default on controller. Random write performance corresponds with quickspecs for testing drives. Firmware and drivers at Sept 2014 level.
We expected much different results, generally double performance in raid0 setup when comparing single drive.
Is there anybody with similar experience? Should something be specially set in SSD setup in latest SmartArrays?
Help appreciated.
Thanks

Random Error Out of the Blue: Uncorrectable PCI Express Error
Woke up to a stalled server, checked the iLo log and found:
Unrecoverable System Error (NMI) has occurred. System Firmware will log additional details in a separate IML entry if possible
Uncorrectable PCI Express Error (Slot 2, Bus 0, Device 1, Function 0, Error status 0x00014000)
We're running VMware on the machine... I jumped in vCenter to track down the device and found:
Intel Corporation Sandy Bridge IIO PCI Express Root Port 1a #1
Segment Number: 0
Bus Number: 0
Device Number: 1
Function Number: 0
Capabilities: Bridge Subsystem ID, MSI, PCI Express, Power management
PCI Device ID: 0x3c02
Device ID: PCI 0:0:1:0
Vendor ID: 0x8086
Subsystem ID: 0x0
Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x0
Secondary Bus Number: 7
The only thing we've changed from the stock server is the addition of a FusionIO 320GB PCIe SSD, about a year ago.
Per this thread: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/DL380p-Gen8-with-uncorrectabl-PCI-express-error/td-p/5995669#.VBrE8vldVRg
I checked our System ROM, and we're at 02/25/2012, four days after the suggested version.
Thoughts?
How can I physically identify "PCIe Root Port 1a #1" to see what's plugged into that might have generated the error?
Thanks!!

Unallocated disk space not showing up on Proliant DL 380
I have a Proliant dl 380 g5 running windows server 2008. I am just about out of space on my c:\ drive. It was built on a raid 1+0 which had two 36 gig drives. In an effort to increase the size of the c:\drive I took one of the 36 gig drives out and put in a 146 gig drive. When the mirror was rebuilt I put another 146 gig drive in and let the mirror rebuild again. Now when I went into disk management the unallocated space did not show up so I could extend the volume. I tried to rescan the drives and do a refresh but still no go. I ran the windows based array configuration utility and you can see the unused space in the sas array 1 logical drive. Is there a way to merge the unused space in the sas array 1 logical drive to the used space without destroying the volume?
HP ProLiant ML150 G6 - CPU Upgrade
Hi guys,
I currently have a HP ProLiant ML150 G6 with a dual core E5502 CPU installed in it.
I am looking at two options here, either put in another E5502 CPU into the second CPU slot or upgrade the current CPU to one of the quad core processors in the list below.
Firstly is that list the correct CPU list for my server?
Secondly are there any issues with putting in a second E5502 dual core CPU into the server?
Would I be better off removing the current CPU and upgrading it with one of the quad core CPU's?
What are your recommendations?

Proliant DL360p with Smart Array P420i - can't expand array
Hi,
I have 2 x HP Proliant DL360p Gen8 servers (E5-2620v2 1P 4GB-R P410i/ZM 460W PS Server/TV) which both report having the P420i Smart Array controller installed despite the model description on the invoice saying "P410i".
I have one obvious question first: what does "P410i/ZM" mean, ie. the "ZM" specifically - does that suggest there is no battery backup write cache with this model and if so (a) do I need one and (b) what would the part number be for my system?
The real issue though is that I am having difficulty with the RAID arrays. I started with 2 x 300GB SAS drives in a RAID1 mirror, and added 1 x 500GB SATA drive as a single array so that left me with "SAS Array A" and "SATA Array B". I ran out of storage space so purchased 2 x 600GB SAS drives and put them in. Both were recognised but I was unable to create a third array either using the ACU in Windows Server 2008 R2 or going through the BIOS / POST utility. I WAS able to add one of the 600GB SAS drives as a hot spare to the SAS array though.
So, figuring there was an issue with having more than 2 arrays (despite no documentation that suggests this is the case) I removed the 1 x 500GB SATA and tried to create a new array with the 2 x 600GB SAS drives. That didn't work either, there was simply no option to create an array.
As a final resort, I removed one of the 300GB SAS drives and that forced a rebuild of "SAS Array A" using the other 300GB drive and the new 600GB drive. I then swapped out the remaining 300GB drive for the other 600GB drive, leaving me with a RAID1 array using 2 x 600GB drives and 2 spare 300GB drives which are currently sitting on my desk.
What I now want to do is expand the 300GB logical drive to be the full size of the RAID1 array which is 600GB. The array reports "Unused Space" of 559GB (50%) so it knows there is free space but there simply isn't an option to expand the array. I also can't create a new logical drive, that option ALSO doesn't exist anywhere.
Can someone please help, I'm tearing what's left of my hair out with this and in the meantime my VMs keep pausing themselves because they're running out of disk space!
Thanks a lot,
Jeremy
I want install W2k12 to ML110 G7 but I don´t download SSP, Why?
Hi guys.
I have a little problem.
I want to update my HP Proliant Server ML110G7 with Windows 2012 Server R2. I have complety format this server and them, install new windows.
I read in original HP manual that first I have to install Windows 2k12 as legacy installation (like normal PC) becouse HP SmartStar don´t support Windows 2012.
Well, the problem is that HP SPP downloadless because I need HP Care Pack update I think... My HP Care Pack by ML110G7 expried 2 moths ago...
Is it possible to download latest SPP without HP Care pack support? or have I to buy new warranty HP Care?
Thanks
B120i RAID controller online giving option for RAID 0 even though I have 3 drives
Hello,
Thank you to anyone that can help. I just brought a brand-new Proliant ml310e gen8 v2. I have 3 hard drives in there now. The b120i controller sees all 3 drives. I want to do RAID 5. I'm no super RAID expert or anything but I'm pretty sure you can do RAID 5 with 3 disks. With that being said, Smart Storage Administrator is only offering up RAID 0 when I try to create the array. I bought the 3 drives for the specific purpose of using RAID 5. At the very least I would want to have RAID 1 available for the redundancy. Can someone tell me how to do this?
Thank you!
James
