Rebuild RAID 1

$

I have 2 servers (Proliant G5 and Proliant G8) On the G5 server I had setup a Raid 1 array (is used with storage only purposes). Now, i want to take the 2 drives from the G5 server and put they on the G8, maintaining the mirror.

My question is if i setup RAID1 on the G8 (with G5 drives) wouldn't delete all data?

The reference image used for installaing is taken on the same host.

Any Ideas ?

Tip - How to send an HP WBEM Provider Alert to SIM from command line

$

0

When your installing the HP SIM Agents, i.e. the WMI/WBEM Providers

You can manually send an Alert 'called an Indication in WBEM terms' from either the SMH homepage, or the StartMenu tool.

But if you would like to use "native" tools from the Windows command line perform the following from a DOS prompt:

    C:\wmic /namespace:\\root\hpq  Path  HP_WinComputerSystem where Caption="target_name.tamu.edu" CALL  SendTestIndication TestIndicationID=101

The "key" is knowing the Method is [Non-Static] which means you must provide an explicit reference to the Instance your calling the method on.

That is what the [ where Caption="target_name.tamu.edu" ] portion does, it selects only one Instance of the Class [ HP_WinComputerSystem ] to call the method on.

In this case its the Instance created when the Provider service hosting that Instance originally starts up.

I wrote about it on my home page.

HP Proliant 310e V2 Gen 8 - cannot install grub

I have just installed Debian on a new HP Proliant 310e V2 Gen 8 server. I have been installing Linux on desktops, laptops, servers (only Dell) for over 15 years. I know my way around multiple Linux distros, but prefer apt-based systems, especially Debian Stable for servers.

I converted the entire partition into a physical area for encryption, followed by LVM, and partitioning into /, /tmp, /var, /home and swap. The install was unremarkable but I could not install grub to MBR.

I have a mystery partition (about 256 MB in size) that was untouched during the install. I assume it contains all the extra software that HP has preloaded (like Intelligent Provisioning, etc.).

How do I boot into my install?

Internal USB Headers on ML350 G4p

$

Hi,

I have a ML350 g4p server (356816-371). Its about 3 or 4 years old. I want to install an Imation Odyssey docking station which wants to connect to 4 pins of an internal 9pin USB header.

On checking the quickspecs for my server (see attached), it states I have an internal USB port, and on viewing the Motherboard, it looks like I have a 9 pin header there, however the sticker on the side of the case refers to it as a serial port.

I've tried connecting the Odyssey to the header pins, but it doesn't like it (Red light on the unit). It works fine on the internal USB of my PC however. (Green light).

Can anyone tell me what the USB headers should look like, and does a serial port connector look the same, ie one row of 5 pins with another row of 4 pins underneath it:
. . . . .
. . . .

I'm trying to work out if I need to get an add on card to give me the USB headers, or whether I actually already have them, and just need to do a firmware update or similar?

Cheers,
Mike.

DL380e Gen8 8xSFF adding additional drive cage...

When adding a 8xSFF drive cage to an existing DL380e Gen8, is it necessary to add a further P420 controller?

Can all 16 disks be added to a single RAID set?

ML150 G6 and adding RAID after Windows has been installed

$

I have a Ml150G6 that I took over support for from another IT consultant.  It is running Windows 2008 SBS.  For some unknown reason (at least to me), the former IT guy used Windows software mirroring.   I want to get rid of the software mirror and start using the B110 controller.  So I have imaged the system using Acronis Backup Essentials and restored to a single drive which converted the dynamic disk into a basic disk when I restore.   So far so good.  Now the problem.  If I enable the B110, create a Raid 1 set and restore the image, the server will not completely boot.  I know this is because the B110 drivers are not found.found.  I can of course put everything back and it works with the software mirrrong.  I am using a couple of new drives for my testing.   I think I need to preinstall the B110 drivers on the original system before I take the image used to restore.  Problem is the HP B110 drives don't want to install without the B110 activated.

Does anybody know how to preinstall the HP B110 drivers on the Windows 2008 SBS system running on software mirroring so that when I backup and restore to the B110 mirrored drives the B110 drivers will be active and installed letting the system boot.

HP Proliant DL380 G5 USB 3.0 card support?

$

Hi All,

As the title states I'm after a USB 3.0 card for a Proliant DL380 G5.  From what I've read it seems that there is no official HP USB 3.0 card yet?  This means I will be buying an aftermarket one.  On the many forums I've been through I can see that people has fitted USB 3.0 cards to Proliant servers with varying degrees of success.  Some have got them working, others not at all and many seem to have the problem where the fans speed up 50% as the system cannot get thermal data from the card so ramps up the fans as a precaution.

Does anyone know of a working USB 3.0 card for Proliant servers or even better does someone have this running in their setup?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

Why my Win Serv 2012 std (hp ROK) does not get installed on my esxi 5.5.0?

$

Hi folks,

I am a begginer, so be patient with me please.

My company bought a proliant DL385p Gen 8 and it came with a windows server 2012 dvd media.

The media label says:

"Windows Server 2012 Recovery Media for Windows Server 2012 ROK Products for HP Proliant servers"

So I am trying to install the windows 2012 with this media in my Esxi 5.5.0, but when installation starts I recieve a message saying me tha the windows should be installed only in hp machines.

My doubt is that I am running hp customized esxi: VMware-ESXi-5.5.0-1746974-HP-5.72A.3-Jun2014.iso

Why my windows does not recognize that I am doing its installation on a hp machine?

How could I fix it? Could I download another windows image and activate with my key product?

Best regards

Firmware question regarding the HP NC522SFP

Hi

Not sure if this is the right forum?

Yesterday I updated the firmware on my NC522SFP NICs to the newest one availiable (4.0.593), but I have a question that I need some help answering. Why does the firmware update utility say that my active firmware is either of the old nor the new firmware? Take look at this:

Before the update:

C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\Drivers\NC522SFP\Firmware\Extracted>nxflash_x64.exe -i "Ethernet 2" --info
Board Type                 : 0x26 (HP NC522SFP Dual Port 10GbE Server Adapter)
Board Chip Rev             : B2
Serial Id                  : XXXXXXXX (For your security, I have removed the serial number from your post above - that's information you probably don't want to make publicly available.)
Efuse ID                   : 0x4e424d3530303e14
Firmware version(on Flash) : 4.0.579
Active Firmware version    : 4.0.590
Driver version             : 5.3.27
BIOS version               : 2.1.0
MAC Addr 0                 : 80:C1:6E:A9:61:78
Subsystem ID               : 0x705b103c
PXE Status 0               : Enabled
WOL Status 0               : Enabled
NCSI Status                : Enabled

After the update:

C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\Drivers\NC522SFP\Firmware\Extracted>nxflash_x64.exe -i "Ethernet 2" -info
Board Type                 : 0x26 (HP NC522SFP Dual Port 10GbE Server Adapter)
Board Chip Rev             : B2
Efuse ID                   : 0x4e424d3530303e14
Firmware version(on Flash) : 4.0.593
Active Firmware version    : 4.0.590
Driver version             : 5.3.27
BIOS version               : 2.1.0
MAC Addr 0                 : 80:C1:6E:A9:61:78
Subsystem ID               : 0x705b103c
PXE Status 0               : Enabled
WOL Status 0               : Enabled
NCSI Status                : Enabled

OS is 2012 R2 and driver version is the "HP QLogic P3P Multifunction Driver for Windows Server 2012 (American, International)" - HP QLogic P3P Multifunction Driver for Windows Server 2012 (American, International)

Where does the Active Firmware come from? It seems like there is a bundled firmware file within the driver?

Thanks in advance

gen 8 intelligent provisioning

hi,

as per hp's communication you cant obtain smart start/support packs for g8 servers anymore.

if we are unable to use intelligent provisioning through the ILO how would we update the server?  also we dont have access to the support centre as this is managed by a third party.

would we just request a support bundle from the 3rd party.  what do you call the bumdle if i were to request it?

Thanks

Hi guys,

I have question about compatibility drivers for HP ProLiant BL460c G5 and HP ProLiant BL460c G6. We have HP ProLiant BL460c G5 and we want upgrade network drivers. The last driver version for HP NC373i device is 7.4.14.0 (B)
19 Feb 2013 and the last version in download page of HP ProLiant BL460c G5 is this driver, so this is correctly. BUT, this driver is avaliable on other link like 'alone driver' in new version: 7.8.50.0 (D)16 May 2014 !

This is link: NC373i download page

My question is, if can install new this driver 7.8.50.0 (D)16 May 2014 to HP ProLiant BL460c G5?

Just installed Windows 2012 on this and I have an unknown device listed. Just wondering if there is a driver for this? The device info states its ACPI\HPQ000B\0 and hardware ID states ACPI\VEN_HPQ&DEV_000B, which I assume is related to the 100-Series Management Controller? Any help of assitance to a driver on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 What´s problem? Config BIOS?

Is it possible that the problem be SmartArray controller drive? In this case... Where is the driver to download?

PS: I try to create USB boot with Windows 2012 use Windows 7 DVD/USB Loader app but don´t start it.
