Wiping Drives in a RAID Array

$

Hello All;

I am retiring our Proliant ML370 G4 Server which is using an HP SA6400 Array controller. My question is:

Is there a way to do a security Wipe on the drives in the array before getting rid of this hardware?

I have read about and tried dban but it will not work on the raid. The best would be a bootable CD that could wipe them out and then be done with it.

Hi,

Today I saw an warning message in windows 2003 log:

ID: 24607

Source: Cissesrv

The event information received from array controller P410 located in server slot 4 was of an unknown or unrecognized class.
An excerpt of the controller message is as follows: Surface Analysis Pass Information, LDrv=0 Number of passes=26.

What does it means?

Several weeks ago, failed hard drive in the array has been replaced by the same one. HP Proliant Server ml-150-g6, RAID 1.

Thanks.

HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter don't work after firmware upgrade

I've made mistake probably.

Server DL380G5, adapter in PCI-X Riser slot

HBA SC44Ge doesn't seen in system after upgrade.

When I press F9 Setup and select from menu PCI Devices I see this adapter. When system is booting, I don't see lines about this HBA and, after booting LSIUtil says  "0 MPT Ports found"

What can I do with it? How can I reload firmware?

Smart Array P212 (email reporting & rebuild time)

We have a Smart Array P212 in a ProLiant DL320 G6, running RHEL5-AS x86_64.

We are seeing two issue with this RAID controller.

1) setting up email reporting, so an email will go out when a drive fails, is proving to be way more difficult than we think it should be. The controller BIOS has no email reporting, so reporting must be OS dependent. Finding a simple utility that let's us configure email reporting seems to be impossible. We either have to create our own scripts in combination with the hpacucli utility to have the OS send out emails, or install the SIM onto another server and setup that service to monitor the controller in question. Both those options are a ton of work for simple email reporting. Is there any better way to do this? $40 controller at best buy have email reporting on them, why can't the 212?

2) We recently lost a drive in a 2TB RAID mirror on this controller. The rebuild priority was set to high, yet the rebuild took 4 days. That's absolutely nuts. A $40 controller at best buy can rebuild the same 2TB in less than 24 hours. What gives? Is there any way to decrease the rebuild time even if the rebuild priority is set to high?

Sincerely,

ITS-Admins

P400 doesn't want to use hot spare drive

Hello!

One  our customer have DL380 G5 with SA P400 RAID controller and 8 SAS drives:

- array A of 3xHDD in RAID5;

- array B of 4xHDD in RAID10;

- 1 drive as global hot spare;

All the drives are the same 72G 15K type.

One of drive in array B has failed. Data on the degraded array are still accessible. The controller does not rebuild the array with hot spare drive as expected. Array B shown as failed and RAID10 as degraded, but still protected by hot spare:

=> controller slot=1  physicaldrive all show

hplog shows some strange errors:

We tried to reset the controller by power off and restart but without a result.

The firmware of the controller is old (5.20). Can the error be a firmware-specific issue? Is it safe to update to current 7.22 at this conditions? Any ideas more?

The server is far from us. Local technician can exchange the drive and press power button but not more. The customer can schedule only a little downtime. We can't risk to loose any data from the server

HP DL380 G5 - Broadcom 1Gb Drivers

The drivers download page for HP ProLiant DL380 G5 with an OS of Windows Server 2008 R2 currently has two similarly named broadcom drivers listed:

  1. HP Broadcom 1Gb Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions (American, International)
    Current Version: 17.0.0.3 (15 Jun 2015)
  2. HP Broadcom 1Gb Multifunction Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions (American, International)
    Current Version: 7.8.50.0 (E) (9 Sep 2014)

Are these two drivers related - is the first intended as a replacement for the second? Or are they two completely unrelated drivers that should both be installed simultaneously?

Impossible rebuild new disk RAID1 - HP DL320 G5 controller onboard (embedded)

Hello everyone ...

I find myself struggling with a troublesome situation.

On my server DL320 G5 with Embedded SATA Controller, it has failed a disk2 configured in RAID1.

As usual, I turned off the server, insert the new disk (which is bigger than a few mb) and restart the server.

The disk does not automatically rebuilt, and on windows I find how a new unity (to format).

And  as if the controller had not automatically assigned to the array exists.
The settings of the integrated controller, i can see the disk but i can't add the existing array.

I read something about the Proliant Service Pack 2013.02 that improve the software HP Sorage Manager to manage the RAID.

I remember the first restart was just with a good disk inside. Is the possible cause?
Can anyone tell me how to force the rebuild to the new disk?

Thanks a lot.

Patching a G5 Server with Windows 2003

Hi

I would like to patch old servers that we have with the latest patches, drivers and firmware

We are still using these models of servers with Windows 2003 running on it

ProLiant DL380 G5

ProLiant DL360 G5

ProLiant DL580 G5

With newer models I normally use the latest SPP and run a online and offline scan and patch everything

But I understand that with old model (hardware and OS) it is different.

I know these are no longer supported by HP and Microsoft will soon no longer will support Windows 2003 but for some reason we need to keep these old servers running but I would like them to be at least run on the latest software and patches possible.

What would be the best way you would recommand to patch all these ?

Thank you for your help

Monitoring thermal and fans

Hi world
I have a Proliant DL380 G4 with MS Server 2008 X64 Standard SP2 installed, and I need to read CPU temperature sensors and fan's speeds. I don't need to make complicated reports, nor send readout emails, nor remotely test my server. I just want to know the CPU temperature, locally, just like Linux HP-Health does. I've installed SNMP service (and configured traps and security) , Insight Management Agent, Proliant Support Pack... I've checked WMI and wBEM... nothing seems to work. The System Management Homepage keeps telling me a question mark on temperature reading:

No sign of fan status.

Please, point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have the 64bit version of the Array Configuration Utility (hpacuhost.exe, version: 9.20.9.0) installed under Windows Server 2008R2 on a DL360G4p. The Server has the system disks in the internal 6i controller and has an MSA20 attached to a SA6402.

The ACU suffers from random crashes when using it, sometime I can get things done, other time I can't.

Can anyone help with what the problem might be please?

regards

Dave

RAID Configuration Suggestion - Help, please

$

I have a new Prolaint ML 350 Gen9 with 8 x 300 GB SAS HDD using the onboard Smart Array P440ar controller.  It's more storage than we require (nice bonus) so I would like to take advantage of RAID 1+0.

Which would be better? Reliability, Redundancy, & Performance are my priorities.

Windows Server 2012 R2 will be on the system drive, and we'll be using two Hyper-V servers.

Option 1

8 x 300 in RAID 10 = 1200 GB, then use Windows Disk Management to partition into 300 & 900 GB drives.

Option 2

2 x 300 in  RAID 1 =  300 GB

6 x 300 in RAID 10 = 900 GB

Any other suggestions?

Is the onboard RAID powerful enough for this?  Our vendor said it was.

Thanks,

- Ken

8-Bay SFF PCB Power Connector

Hello

I'm after a bit of advice, i've been trawling the internet for hours with no success. I've recently purchased an 8-bay SFF drive cage originally meant for a DL370 G5, on the rear of the cage is a PCB with a 10 pin power connector. I've been looking high and low for a breakdown of the pins for the connector so I can make up a power connector, i'm guessing it's going to need +12v, +5v ,+3.3v & COM but i've no idea which pin is which?

Can anybody help?

Problems Downloading iLO 4 Firmware Updates

$

Hi,

I'm based in the UK and I'm having major problems trying to find and download the latest iLO 4 update (v2.20 15-Jun-2015).

I have tried the URL 'www.hp.com/support/ilo4' where I select 'English' and 'Windows Server 2012 R2' and after waiting ages, the headings show but all have (0) for the number of available downloads.

I also managed to get to an HP Support Center page headed "Drivers & Software, Online ROM Flash Component for Windows - HP Integrated Lights-Out 4" which has the full set of info (Description, Enhancements, etc) but the is NO download button.

I've spent far too long on this wild goose chase - where can I obtain this download?

I have 2x DL380 G9 and 2x StoreVirtual 4330 - both under warranty.

Thanks,

Graham

CIM from latest Offline Bundle for VMware 5.1 still broken

$

Hi.

We found that the CIM Providers from latest offline bundle for ESXi 5.1 are still broken (hp-esxi5.1uX-bundle-2.3-20).

Changes for Ethernet Port status (duplex / speed) are not reflected when you query them via WBEM whereas they are shown correcly in VSpehre Client.

The good news is that at least the same bug included in AMS for ESXi when you query ILO via SNMP has been fixed in latest release from what is stated in revision history and from what we could confirm by our lab tests here.

Come on HP we are highly dependant that monitoring information we receive from our customer systems are correct so please fix that annoying bug.

Thanks.

Hello,

I've installed and configured the ILO of my DL380 HP server yesterday, but I cannot ping it from my office,

nonetheless I can ping another DL380 installed by a colleague of mine 6 months ago and  connected to the same hub and the ILO network configuration is the same ..(gateway, mask,...)

any idea why I cannot ping at all in the ILO IP address ?

how to trouble shoot ?

thank you,
