Update storage firmware DL380G6

Hello, I've buyed used a ML380G6 dual Processor with P410i controller and 12 GB RAM

I've updated succesfully the BIOS to P62 and I wish to update the controller and backplane because I wish to mount 4 sata 2 TB o 3 TB 2.5" drives. I've already have 4 SAS 146GB 2.5" in RAID 10 where I've installed CENTOS 7.

The server will host a big INNODB database with a plenty of datas. So I will use the SAS RAID for system and INNODB and SATA RAID for files linked in the DB.

I've read that the controller and backplane have been updated with many BIOS that fixes a lot of problem and give support for bigger disks.

Now the P410i is 2.00 and ILO is 1.78.

(I don't know about backplane and I don't know how to retreive this information)

I've tried to download the firmwares in HP support section, but I cannot find a valid path to apply them.

In the instruction there are link of HP Smart Update Manager on the Firmware Maintenance DVD version 10.00 (that not work) or the  HP Smart Update Manager from the HP Service Pack forProliant (Now I'm downloading 2015.06.0, but at home page I read that require a warranty or contract active, so I don't know if it will work or not)

How I can apply the new firmwares?

And I can apply the last one or I need to apply each revision?

I Need to update ILO to last version before try to update storage?

I read of many people that had blue lights on backplane after update, because of fail...

I thank you in advance for any help!

DL360/380 G6 ILO2 2.25 and 2.27: intermittent web page display corruption, tabs go missing with IE

$

                        All,

On a number of DL380 G6 and DL360 G6 systems with ILO2's (both v 2.25 and 2.27), we are seeing a strange ILO display problem cropping up. At some point after logging in, often after starting a java app (attaching a virtual CD or using virtual power), the ILO web page (not te remote console) appears to be corrupted - either the tabs across the top, or the Summary section on the left are not shown, but instead an error "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the web page" is shown in that space.  Sometimes, refreshing the web page fixes it. Sometimes, the user's session is disconnected.

This is happening when the browser is run from either Win2003 or 2008R2 client systems, with IE v7 and IE V8. Firefox does not appear to exhibit the issue, but is not an option for all of our users. I've not been able to find any mention of this in the Forums or release notes - any and all help is greatly appreciated.

                           Thanks, best regards,

How to change Embedded SATA Configuration in ML110 G7 from CLI (command line interface) or iLO CLI

$

Hello everybody,

I want to remotely manage the SATA Configuration in a cluster of ML110 G7 servers.

When accessing the RBSU over a VGA there is this option:

Advanced Options -> Embedded SATA Configuration -> Enable SATA AHCI Support / Enable SATA Legacy Support

Advanced Options -> Embedded SATA Configuration -> Drive Write Case -> Enabled

This changes the following:

SATA Option ROM ver 2.00.C01  vs  HP AHCI SATA Controller (v0.82)

However how do I change these settings from the CLI ROM-Based Setup Utility or iLO CLI?

HP ML310 server hangs after memory upgrade

I bought the hp proliant ml310e G8v2 server with 4GB of  RAM.  I also bought the memory module HP 8GB (1x8GB) Dual Rank x4 PC3L-10600R-9-10.E1 1333 ECC. When I plugged this memory into the server. the server stops with initializing at 20%.

I take a look at http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetHTML.aspx?docname=c04111535 and I think this memory modules must been supported.

Someone an idea why this memory module is not working?

RAID levels on P410 Array controller

Can anyone tell me how to get RAID level 5 on a Proliant P410 controller. I just purchased 2 ML350 G6 servers and I added a 2 bay LFF cage (total of 8 LFF drives). I want to run RAID level 5, but when I run the HP array configuration utility, I only have the options of RAID level 0 or 0+1. I have seen other posts where people are running RAID level 5 on an ML350 G6, but I don't have that option. The firmware revision for the controller is 3.66 so it should support it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

DL360 G3 - 300gb Hard Drive

Hi all,

I have a DL360 G3. I had a 36gb (running OS) and 300gb (IP security camera storage) drive running, the CPU fan decided to die on me. The fan problem is resolved. The server is back up and running.

The issue I have now is the server thinks that the 300gb drive is only 36gb, I have data on the 300gb drive that I need to recover. Any suggestions on how to resolved this issue? I installed the 300gb drive some time ago and cannot remember if I needed to do anything to allow the server to see it correctly.

DL380 G3 - Array issue, status sill in "waiting for rebuild"

$

Hi,

I tried to fix an issue with a server. The HDD was flashing at the 3rd led indicating a predictive failure.
I changed the HDD (a new one) using ACU to rebuild the array, so "online" on windows. The rebuilding has started but finally was stopped after x minutes. I tried to do the same after changing the priority of the building to high. I restarted the server. I made this 2 times. The last time, I have updated the RAID controller. But the status is still the same, "waiting for rebuild"...
Attached the last ADU report.
Any help will be really appreciated...
thanks,
alex.

Can't update firmware for P410 on a ProLiant DL180G6

$

Hi,
I downloaded the latest Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component for Linux - Smart Array P212, P410, P410i, P411, and P712m from the support area. Then I downloaded the latest maintenance CD and flashed it to an USB key with the HP utility. I put the firmware executable (the latest, Sept. 18 2009, ver. 2.50) CP011721.scexe and its MD5 on the suggested "compaq\swpackages" folder (where the other .scexe files are stored), but when I start up the USB key, the system says that there's nothing upgradable. This is nonsense - I have a P410 controller with a RAID 5 of 3 SATA drives...
Anyone that took the firmware upgrade successfully on a DL180 G6 system?

Little help with ML370 and 6400 Smart Array Controller

$

Greetings,
Please pardon my post if it is not complete this is my first one and unfortunately, I don't have a lot of information with me. I may have to get more info if necessary the next time I go on site. I have a few questions regarding configuring the array. I know it's wordy, but I wanted to include as much information as I had.

I am about to inherit an ML370. It is a production machine for about 30 users and has been functioning fine for 5 months. Here is what I currently know about it. It is currently under support with HP. It has a Smart Array 6400 controller in slot 4. (ACU says so). Last August, it crashed. I am told by the former admin that after a few attempts to repair it, HP came on site and replaced the RAID cage, a drive or two, the cable and I think (but not sure) the controller. For whatever reason the machine was rebuilt with what I consider a poorly though out disk plan and I would like to fix it.

The machine has 5 drives in it. 0,1,2,3 & 5.
Drives 0 & 1 are 2 72gb drives, are RAID 1 and are the OS (SBS 2003 Ent).
Drive 2 is a standalone 146 gb drive. RAID 0.
Drives 3 & 5 are 2 146 drives and are RAID 0.

Slot 4 is empty.

According to Windows Disk Manager:
Partition C is the OS.
Partition E is drive 2.
Partition F is a 136 GB logical drive carved out of array C.
Partition G is a second 136 GB logical drive carved out of array C. (It also says this is a page file).

I would like to:
A. Make 2 backups of all the data on E, F & G .
B. Then add another 146 drive, and install it in slot 4.
C. I would like to keep (and hopefully not have to reinstall) the OS on the first two drives (0&1).
D. Then I want to reconfigure the array controller to Make a RAID 5 array out of 3 of the remaining 4 146 gb drives, and keep the last 146 gb as an online hot-swap.

Questions:
1. Is the 6400 a hot-swappable controller, and are all the drives (72 and 146) hot swappable?
2. Is it an auto fail-over system?
3. If so, can the 146 hot swap be used if needed to auto-fail-over for EITHER a 72 (RAID 1) or 146 (RAID 5)? Is the controller and firmware "smart" enough (no pun intended) to format the 146 as a 72, and rebuild it from the remaining 72 gb drive should it fail.
4. Can the controller be configured to notify someone if an array has been compromised?

I presume like most array controllers the process is pretty straightforward. Are there any tips, tricks or "gotcha's" I should be aware of before attempting this. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for? I plan on doing it on a weekend, but it IS a production machine and *will* have to ready by Monday.

Any suggestions, comments or thoughts welcome.

Thanks again for putting up with my noobie-ness.

SmartArray 642 h/w failure on DL380 G5

Hi There!

SmartArray 642 controller just can't be seen by DL380 G6 server. Even no SA642 BIOS messages during POST.

There's some diagnostic LEDs on controller's board: CR5 through CR12. I've got: CR5 - amber, CR7 and CR8 - green, others are down. What does it mean? Any ideas?

I am hoping someone can help. My company has two HP ProLiant DL185 servers running 2003 Storage Server R2. We purchased two new HP ProLiant DL 320 servers running 2008 Storage Server R2. I would like to use the HP Storage Mirroring software to replicate the data from the two old servers over to the two new servers but cannot seem to be able to establish a connection between the servers. I have tried contacting HP support and spent almost two hours being transferred in circles. Can anyone provide documentation on how to use the HP Storage Mirroring software?

Server crashes

Hi,

Proliant DL 165 G7. P410/256 Int and P212 Ext with D2600 Disk enclosure.

Linux kernel 2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen , RedHat 5.5. P410 has a mirrored pair of 146GB SAS disk for OS.

This server has crashed about 4 times in the last two weeks. The problem seems to be with the P212 controller and/or the disk enclosure. The symptons are that the server becomes un-responsive and the console will show a panic message like this (big post sorry):

dm-0 is one of the LVM volumes on the disk enclosure.

At this point, I have to power-down the server as nothing I have tried seems to make the server close down gracefully. When the server comes up I get a lot of message like the one below.

ioctl32(cmaidad:5612): Unknown cmd fd(6) cmd(c058420b){00} arg(ffe64520) on /dev                                    /cciss/c0d0

ioctl32(cmaeventd:5495): Unknown cmd fd(5) cmd(c058420b){00} arg(fff1c460) on /d                                ev/cciss/c0d0

ioctl32(cmaeventd:5495): Unknown cmd fd(5) cmd(c058420b){00} arg(fff1c460) on /d                                     ev/cciss/c1d0

During the POST, there is a message from the P212 controller about  "a controller failure event occurred prior to this power-up, previous lock code..."

I have seen other posts about the ioctl32 error. One of the posts on the HP forum said the problem was resolved when he changed the cable. I switched the SAS cable but I am still getting the error. I applied the last firmware (5.6) and used the 9.5 firmware DVD to flash all the components on the system two days ago. I still get the messages above. The server was not resposive yesterday morning and I have to power it down again.

I do not know if the messages above as related to the crash. I'd like to hear any suggestions at this point because the current situation is loosing me sleep.

Thanks in advance.

Proliant DL360 G7 and MSA50

Hi,

I currently have a DL360 G7 and an MSA50 but was wondering what controller i could use for them. Our re-seller told me the P411 would be fine, yet I read a post on here earlier which said it does have problems and adivsed against using it in production. I spoke to my re-seller with regards to the P800 instead and they told me that it wasn't on the quickspecs so isn't compatible.

Can anyone tell me whether any of those cards will work fine with the setup please?

Thanks

Paul

We have server DL180G5. And we want to buy Smart Array P212/ZM controller for it. Will it work with this server?

There is no such controller in the list of compatible accessories. As i think, this is because chassis has SFF-8484 connector, and controller has SFF-8087 connector. If we buy 496016-B21 (HP Mini SAS to 8484 32in/35in Cable Assembly), i think we can use this controller. Is that true, or am i wrong?

Hi guys!

I have this HP 8 INTERNAL PORT SAS 64/133 PCI-X RAID HOST BUS ADAPTER, one of the System HDDs configured as RAID 1 failed.

I got the new HDD and installed it but the RAID 1 doesn't syncronize automatically.

Do you know how to resynconize it?

Thanks,

Javier
