HP Intelligent Provisioning update error on Proliant ML110 G9

$

Hi everybody!

I have a brand new Proliant ML110 G9, and before installing the OS I want to update all internal firmware and software, everthing went fine so far, the only one giving problems is HP Intelligent Provisioning v2.20 which I want to update to its latest version 2.30. But every time I try to update IP 2.20 through "Firmware Update" utility I get the following errors during the updating process (see attached image).

Anyone who can give me a hand? It's my first time posting here, so I'm wondering if I asking in the right place, or maybe I can contact HP directly because of my warranty...?

Thanks in advance!

ProLiant DL380 G3 freezes after cpu detection !?

Hi,

I have a DL380 G3 Server. It worked very well until today. I think it freezes just befor scsi hard drives detection...

It freezes after cpu's detection, in here: http://screencast.com/t/WDF8f4ml

 Motherboard leds: http://screencast.com/t/hHiWW56Fmo

What i allready tried: jumpers reset bios, battery out, ram out/in, power regulators removed and placed back, scsi hdd removed and placed back...I also tried to power up without hdd but it's doing the same thing.

On front panel the first led it's having the orange color, the first one from here:  http://screencast.com/t/8HdZBaC2zbkR

I mention that this server was used rarely, and it is placed in a room with no more that 10 degrees C, maybe this was a bad factor for what i mentioned above..

Any thoughts about this issue ?

Thanks!

OEM Windows activation on DL380 following motherboard replacement - no SLIC

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on this as it's an issue I've received conflicting information.

We have a server which was purchased with an OEM licence of WS2008. As a result, the OS automatically activates with the SLIC tables in the BIOS, HP's certificate and SLP PID key (the latter two are installed as part of the OS installation with SmartStart CDs, etc).

We have over 100 servers, most of them running HP OEM Windows licences fine.

One DL380 had a motherboard failure. This was replaced under an HP Care Pack support contract. The issue is that the replacement motherboard doesn't hold the SLIC tables so the OS is no longer activated.

Some have suggested that we should activate it with the COA key on the lid - this is something we could do, but not really an accepted solution as it would require human intervention for manual activation (server is not on the internet). Also, this means this server would be different to all the other servers running activated with the standard HP OEM mechanism.

So my request is I would want the replacement motherboard to be a "like for like" which includes the SLIC tables present so it can operate the same way that the previous motherboard did. Of course, we can track by the serial number and confirm that the server was purchased with an OEM licence, but it appears that this isn't possible?

I've used other OEM vendors before and any motherboard hardware replacement was always a like for like and any previous SLIC information was injected in the new one when applicable so the OS would continue to operate. So should HP be any different?

Smart Array 420i

25 hard drives

OS - Red Hat 6+

This a global issue...

This brings the total of 1.2TB HDDs replaced to 20 so far, a case was raised with HP because of the high number of failures, there are a couple of strange issues about these incidents, all the failed HDDs are in slot 20 as a hot spare, the controller is at 5.22,  yet HP did not pick up on this, if we had received a bad batch of HDDs, the failures would be in various slots, the odds of installing every bad HDD in slot 20 are vast.

DL380 G5 Not network connexion

Hi,

I have a DL380 G5 server with Windows 2003
After a reboot the server started well though the network is not working.
Everything seems normal on the server, network cards blink network services are started but the ping and remote connection fails.

The following tests were performed:
- The direct connection between the server and a laptop fails
- The server IP spoofing by laptop is ok  which exclude an issue on the local network
- Restarting the last good configuration with no result
- Reconfiguration of the network card no results

Someone would have an idea or suggestion to help me solve this problem?

Power supplies going offline on new HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9

$

Hello,

I'm having an issue with a server where the power supplies seem to go "offline", but not at the same time. I noticed this just a week or so after getting the server (August 2015).

iLo reports a PSU as haven lost power. If I unplug the power cable from the UPS and plug it back in, it comes back as healthy.

Just the other day, the server went offline and was even inaccessible via iLo. Once I got to the hardware, it was completely powerless. I unplugged the power cables from both PSU's and re-plugged, and it was then able to power on, and iLo reports everything as healthy.

Normally this would only effect one PSU at a time, giving me time to replug the cable and restore redundency. However, this time the second PSU failed before I noticed that the first had failed as well, taking everything down.

I contacted HP support because the server is obviously still under warranty, but they couldn't see any problems other than the logs saying that PSU redundency was lost.

All the firmware is up to date, including the power controller and BIOS, according to the HP tech. iLo says that the PSU's themselves have firmware version 1.0.0 on each, so I thought they may be able to be updated, but I can't find anything on the HP site as far as PSU updates - just power controllers.

I don't believe it to be a UPS issue because there is another server and 3 network devices connected to it that have had no issues. Also, the UPS load is very low (10-15%).

Any ideas on what I can do?

3T HDD Lost on MicroServer Gen8 with AHCI enabled

Hi Experts,

I have a MicroServer Gen8 which installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with AHCI enabled.

After the OS installed successfully, i inserted the new 3T HDD to the slot, and the system can recognize the HDD correctly, but when i tried to copy my backup to the new installed HDD, the data copying worked well just for minutes, and suddenly, the system reported I/O error, and the copying corrupted. And after i reboot the server, the new installed HDD was lost and the system can not recognize it any more.

I tried two new HDDs and got the same senario. My HDD config like below:

slot 5: SSD which installed the OS.

slot 1: insert the new HDD.

Could you please help to check why this kind of issue would happen? Is it related to the AHCI driver?

How can i solve the issue?

Thanks so much!

Ignore FC/NIC link down status via CLI

I have over 100 ProLiant Gen8/Gen9 servers with FlexFabric NICs set to FCoE personality mode. Many of the servers don’t have LUNs assigned to the FCoE adapter and they are not zoned on my FCoE switches. These servers all show up with warning status in System Management Homepage, Insight Manager, SCOM, etc. because the Fibre Channel HBA status shows as "Link Down". There is an option in SMH under Fibre Channel to "Ignore Status" which resolves this problem and everything shows green despite the fact that the FC HBA has no link. How do I programmatically (or via CLI) set this 100s of servers short of setting them to iSCSI personality?

I've tried poking around the HPQ WBEM WMI classes in Windows but can’t find the class that controls this setting. I assume the method would be similar to disabling unused NIC link status as well?

Hi All,

I've just bought 2 eSATA 2 SATA RAID PCI PCI-E Express Card Sil3132 from: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-e-PCI-express-to-eSATA-SATA-RAID-Sil3132-3132-controller-Card-Adapter-/221256450796

and I've attached it successfully to my HP Proliant DL 360 G7 but the problem is that I cannot see the eSATA HDD in my external casing on my VMware ESXi ?

Do I need to plug any SATA cable from the card to any available SATA connector in DL 360 G7 motherboard ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

DL360 G5/G6 iLO2 with firmware v2.25 support IPMP V2.0 SOL? Get Auth Capabilities error

Hello,

First of all, thanks for your help/advice.

I have several DL360 G5 and G6, iLO2 with latest supported firmware version 2.25. I want to use IPMI tool, in particularly the SOL (Serial Over Lan) features available in IPMI v2.0, to monitor these servers. However, I ran into connecting (Auth Capabilities Error) issue, so I wonder if iLO2 supports IMPI v2.0 at all? here are the commands I ran

ipmitool -I lanplus -U xxx -P xxx  -L Administrator -H 10.242.21.155  sol info -v

Get Auth Capabilities error

Error issuing Get Channel Authentication Capabilies request

We have tried with different User, but the result remains the same. I have also tested to identify the port 623 is enabled on the ilo and can see that, it is opened —

nmap -p 623 -sU -P0 (IP ADDRESS)

DL380 Gen 9 processor serial number

$

I'm trying to fill in a form for the free cashback offer that HPE are running. On the form it says 'Serial number' next to the processor kit I ordered (which was installed by the reseller). Luckily I still have the processor here and can access the unit, but pulling the lid off reveals 3 stickers on the 2nd processor heatsink, none of which say 'S/N' or similar. I can see a holographic sticker with

  • Security ID and a 7 digit code
  • CT: and a 14 digit code
  • PN: and a 6 digit code followed by -001

Otherwise there is a white sticker with 'Replace with spare', PROC E5-2620v3 85W and a number in brackets [762xxx-001]

There is another white one but this is for the heatsink itself.

Any ideas which one is the processor serial number (if any)?

Offline Firmware and Gen 8+ Systems Running Windows

Guys, just wondering if offline firmware is required anymore on Windows systems running on Gen8 or higher hardware? In the past, we generally would have been able to run some component firmwares online but other things like older drives would have to be done offline by booting to media. has this been removed in Gen8 and higher servers i.e. will all firmware components have the ability to be flashed online?

bad drive replacement hot swap

Question on drive swap Proliant ML350p Gen8

I have a bad drive on this server but my concern is when I look at the array diagnostic report it shows 2 logical drives in interim recovery mode but only 1 bad hard drive, set up is 8 HP SAS 900gb drives in a raid 50. of course I am 1 month past the warranty period on this unit and HP quoted me 945.00 to have a tech come out and replace the drive. i have a spare and i am fully capable of pulling the old drive and putting the new one in but I am trying to avoid a system crash as this our production server and no one is working if I crash the system. I was on the phone with HP and when I sent AD report to them that was when they suggested having a tech come out so I am wondering if they saw something that gave them some concern or what. any help would be appreciated my user ame is not a joke
