Online reconfigure RAID

Hi

Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction please?  I have a Proliant DL380 Gen9, with HP Smart Array Controller HP 440ar.  6 disks in the server.  2 x 300GB 10K SAS as RAID1, 4 x 600GB 10k SAS which is being reported as RAID1.  Running out of disk space.  Is it possible to add an additioanl 600GB 10K SAS (all my budget will permit) and perform an online conversion to RAID5 without data loss (i.e. 5 x 600GB SAS in RAID5)?  If so, what is the procedure?

Grateful for any advice.

Regards

Problem with installing windows OS on ml10 v2

Hello guys,

we got some problems during the installation of windows OS on the HPE ML10 v2.

  • When we try to get in the SSA with pressing F5, nothing happens and the server boots like normal
  • We tried to update the firmware with an bootable USB drive, but it always says:  boot:  vesamenu.c32 is missing
  • Our main problem is that there is no drive shown in the windows installation menu

I found some post (about offline SSA and more) which are similar to mine problem, but it didnt help me really.

I hope you can help me.

Proliant ML310 G5p RAID: does someone have a definitive solution?

Good morning

I have a problem with a Proliant ML310 G5p with 3 HD (1TB)

I'm trying to rebuild a RAID1 on 2 of the 3 HD. It was "Degraded".

First of all: the led of the 3 HD are off; they only blink once when I turn on the server but they all remains off all the time while they are working.

Following the HP assistant instruction I istalled all the software on the o.s. (Windows server 2008 R2 standard) but neither the Array configuration Utility (ACU, ver. 9.40.12.0) and HP Smart Storage Administrator (HPSSA, ver. 1.60.17.0) can't detect any controller. I found on this forum that it's normal with an HP (Adaptec??) Embedded SATA RAID Controller.

If I press F8 during POST to enter in the RAID Configuration Utility (located on the controller BIOS) I can see the controller. I installed the GUI-based HP Storage Manager(ver. 5.01.00) on Windows server and it seems to work too.

What I've done: I removed the second HD of the RAID1 and testing it, I found it partially broken (with HD Tune ver. 2.55).

I replaced the HD with a new one and tried to rebuild the RAID1 first with HP Storage manager under Windows: the process was very slow and didn't complete successfully after a lot of hours.

The I tried to use the RAID Configuration Utility in the BOIS and the offline process was faster during the night: when it finished an error message told me that there was a problem with the old HD where the o.s. was running and the process was not completed correctly.

When I rebooted the RAID was "Failed" and the o.s. doesn't boot. Fortunately I read on this useful forum how to solve: I deleted the RAID1 and Windows now is working!

Now I have one HD that is "ready" (the new one), one that is partitioned (where the o.s. is running) and the third that is part "optimal" and is part of the only logical drive (array?) present (I use it only for data...).

Before I used RAID Configuration Utility in the BOIS I tried to use a HP Proliant Array Configuration Utility (v. 8.70.9.0) using a DVD after a system reboot, as the assistant suggested. With this offline method I can see the three HD but they didn't result in any array. I was afraid when I saw that and prefered to use the BIOS utility instead of it.

Someone can help me?

I can give you more info and screenshots if necessary!

latest iLO Firmware 2.40 issue -- [System Information -> Storage] controller information missing

Hi,

When upgrading HP Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) firmware to the latest version 2.40, I'm no longer able to view the controller (physical  and logical Drives information) from [System Information -> Storage]. All other previous versions work fine.

*refer to the attached image below for detail.

-searched through HPE's Advisory, found this, but this is NOT what I'm experiencing.

HP Smart Storage Admin

My first time here and hope I'm in the right location.   I inherited a Microsoft SBS 2011 environment....the server is and HP ProLiant G6 and configured with a RAID array, but has no utilities on it.  I've tried to find a version of Smart Array Admin that will work on this server, but nothing will install (installs say they are incompatible).

Can someone point me the right direction as I've had a drive failure and need to analyze the array.

Wiping disks

Hello,

I need to wipe disks so I can send them to 3rd parties W/O fear that data escapes the company. So far we used Acronis Cleanser but it has some limits.

The software should be able to recognize the serial numbers of the disks to be wiped. It will run on a ProLiant DL380 G8 and this server is able to see the numbers.

Who can give me some advice what program to use?
Thank you very much!

Kind regards, Ruud Baltissen

RAID Arrays Failed on Proliant

Have  a Proliant DL385 G9 with a Smart Array 440ar.  I have 20 drives installed.  I have 2 drives (in the optional expansion slot in the front of the chassis) and 18 drives in the standard slots.  The 2 drives are RAID 1, Logical Drive 1.  The 18 drives are RAID 6, Logical Drive 2.  The server has been performing fine until it went offline this evening..  I went to look at it and it is constantly boot cycling.  Under System Health It says: Configuration Required.  - 1779 Slot 0 Drive Array - Replacement drive(s) detected OR previosuly failed drive(s) now appear operational: POrt 1T, Box:1, bay 1 and 2 (SAS) Bay 9 - 24 (SAS) Logical drive(s) disabled due to possible data loss.  In ACU Critical Status Message:  271 Logical Drive 1 has failed and cannot be used.  All data on this logial drive has been lost, etc.  Same for Logical Drive 2.  I am given the option to Re-Enable Failed Logical Drive.  No drive errors indicated in ACU.

I would rather not lose my data (yes, I know backup, backup backup.  That was the next step but this happened).  I have no failure lights on the drives.  No drives have been replaced.  I find it hard to believe that 5 drives from the RAID 1 and RAID 6 failed at the same time.  I assume the RAID Controller, hiccuped?  Any advice? Help, please.

High Temperature Detected at Processor

Hi;

We have Server HP proliant ML310 G5. We are using it as a database server. Unfortunately; some days ago, my office AC (where we are using this server) became out of order. I was not in a position to stop this server but i also know that AC is recommended for its normal use. I put a fan on it and continue using it. Now AC became OK yesterday but unfortunately........

last night SERVER restarted and after BIOS check, a message appears on the screen "High Temperature detected at Processor....."

System stopped there and not going to start windows. No keyboard key is working.

If anybody know anything about the problem, please share to help.

DL160 Gen9 4LFF with P440 with SAS drives not detected

Greetings,

I have a DL160 Gen9 (4LFF) with a P440 SAS controllers. I have 2 SAS HDD's of 2TB connected to it and I cannot make these work, the lights go amber on the front led panel of the disks. Searching heavily on Google I found I might need an extra cable (and checking out the documentation, it seems to be the P/N: 725593-B21).

Can someone confirm this is all I need to make it work? I'm desperate about it, I'm new at this. Can you confirm it's the right one?

Thanks in advance, hope you can help me. I attached an image for further help.

How to get a pair of SSD's in RAID 1 in a ML110 G7 with LFF cage?

How do we disbale SSL v3 and enable TLS 1.2 in ILO4?

Hi Experts,

How do we disable SSL v3 and enable TLS 1.2 in ILO 4?

I had deep dive in HPE support site and understand that latest firmware will have default SSL v3 disabled and TLS 1.2 enabled in ILO4.. No additional configuration is required for this in ILO console.

Please correct me if I am wrong and provide your vaulable guidance on this topic..

Thanks & Regards, Gopi P

"virtual NIC" on a teamed NIC DL580 G7

I have a couple of DL580 servers, with teamed NICs. To my surprise, they have been built with additional NICs, that appear to be virtual NICS, on the team NICs. E.g on the production team, there is an adapter device name heartbeat:production, Replication:production. These "virtual" NICs have the same MAC address as the team, but their own ip address . I am confused by these "virtual NICs", how were they created. Is this an HP technology, or is it Windows? There are screen dumps in the attachment.

Expanding network on a DL180 Gen6

Hi Guys,

The current HP DL180 server which I have is equipped with only 2 LAN ports. I'm having hard time figuring out whether the read/write operations slow due to the server (using only a single LAN) or because of the switches.

However, I could see a massive amount of read/write happening as per ESXi logs and I would like to expand the LAN to allocate more bandwidth to the server using link aggregation. But I'm quite confused as to what would be the compatible to use the available PCIe slot.. if we can use?

Any advise will be appreciated.

Old Servers | DL580 G7 BIOS Upgrade

Hello Guys !

Need a bit of help !

We have multiple old servers - DL580G7 and DL380G8.

G7's BIOS version shows P65, and DL380G8 BIOS version shows P70.

Can someone please let me know the best SPP version I can safely upgrade my servers to ? Should I do the whole SPP or just the BIOS upgrade  ?

Finally, what does this P65 or P70 correspond to ? Which SPP is present right now on the servers ?

Am very new to HP tools and trying to execute one of the HP tool to get required ILO 3/4 data using standard *.xml file provided by HP.

The problem am facing is when I try to execute "HPQLOCFG.exe" tool from windows 7 64 bit machine. I get the below error :
