Issues with DL180/se G6

Hello,

I am trying to work on an HP DL180se G6 that has been giving me issues (at least that is what version of proliant I was told I have).  I am constantly getting BMC errors during POST.  It always says the BMC versions are NULL.  Everything I've read says to update FW, and to update the Lights-Out first.  So I download and update the Lights-Out FW and it successfully updates the BMC, the POST screen also indicates that there is a version loading now.  Once the machine cycles power, the BMC FW version goes back to NULL and it has problems initializing, requiring me to update the BMC FW again.

The next step was to try and update the BIOS (installed version is 3/20/2012).  The only BIOS image I can find for the DL180se G6 is on the DL180 G6 support site.  The AFUDOS program is telling me I am using the wrong version to attempt an update.  Can anyone confirm that the DL180 G6 BIOS image can be used on the DL180se G6?  If not, where can I get an image for the DL180se?

Or, is there something else wrong with my proliant server that is causing the BMC to not initialize each boot?  The RAID card that was in it was a p410(?), I removed it for a different controller that allows HBA.  Could this be causing the issues?

Thanks

Good evening!

I have problem with HP DL380 G5 server with Smart Array P400 controller.

I have RAID1+0 with 4 SATA 500GB disks inside.

Today morning, array started to rebuild logical drive. In details, it said that disk in bay 4 is rebuilding.

That's ok, but after rebuild system has been working for maybe 20 minutes and rebuilding of this disk started again.

The situation is repeating all day long, I don't know what to do now. Replace disk, replace RAID controller?

If You need any more datails, I will post it here.

I will be thakful for Your advices,

greetings!

TIP: How to install a HP branded Windows OS as a virtual server

Hi All,

I recently pumped into this issue with my HP ProLiant DL360 Gen8 server using a HP ROK license for Windows 2012 server. Problem is that, if  a VMWare hypervisor is running on top of the proliant and you want to install the windows OS for your virtual machines/server you will get an error of "Failed Bios Lock". The usefull link below should help anyone with this problem.

DL380 G5, Smart Array P400 - few questions about recovering

$

Good morning!

I have few questions about disk recovering under Smart Array P400.

(I HAVE FULL BACKUP OF SERVER)

We bought DL380 G5 with 4x500GB Toshiba SATA disks, everything have worked fine for 4 years.

We have RAID10 of 4 disks, it's one logical disk with size 931,5GB, disks are in 1-4 bays in Cage1.

Last week, disk from bay 4 started to recovering time after time, whole system slowed down so I decided to replace this disk with new WD RED 750GB SATA. Recovery hanged at 4% for few hours, but maybe after 6-7 hours it was recovered (I think but percents wasn't going up). My first question:

How can I check if this disk was really recovered?

I checked this removed Toshiba under HD Tune and it has bad sectors. My second question:

Why HP ACU didn't notice that? Are there some tools to check RAID disks for bad sectors?

Now I want to replace all Toshiba disk to WD REDs 750GB, yesterday I tried to replace disk from bay 2 (bad sectors at Toshiba too, more than on previous disk).

It goes well until that 4% hangs, I thought that it will be like with disk from bay 4, but after few hours system hanged completly. I had to reboot server and remove this WD RED from bay 2 to make system works (Windows Server SBS 2011). Now i have bay 2 empty and I don't know what to do. Is there a chance that bay 2 is failed?

Can I try to seat this disk in bays 5-8 maybe and try to recover?

I will be grateful for Your help.

Greetings!

Memory in HP 380p Gen 8.

We have a Gen 8 DL380 with 128GB Ram (4x16GB 8x8GB). One of the 8GB modules has failed and this has reduced the total memory available to the OS to 96GB, as two good module (8GB & 16GB) are now in a state of "Good, used for resiliency". We have a replacement module on the way, but I like to know why we lost the use of a further two module when one failed, please could anyone explain how this works? A google search for "Good, used for resiliency" produces no relevant results.

I attach a screenshot of the memory details.

Smart Update Manager Won't Load After Server Restart!!

I have been having this issue since I installed the latest version of SUM (7.5.1).

I installed it and it ran properly by opening hpsum.bat; after adding all my nodes and creating a baseline, I had to reboot the server. But once the server came back, SUM will just stay in the loading screen in the broswer. I looked around and searched for answers but nothing came up. The only way I could get it to work again was by running hpsum.bat again and it works, but all my nodes and baselines are gone now.

This happened to me a couple of times already and it still happens every time the server is rebooted.

Can somebody help me figure this out?

Is there a workaround for this?

Also, is there a way to restore all the data that won't show up?

Thanks in advance.

Unable to Install Windows OS on ML150 G9

I recently got a ML150 G9 and am not able to install SBS2011.  I use IP with all defaults to install it and it was going well at the beginning of the installation until the progress bar almost reached to the end then "Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver coulbd not be installed" popped up. Finally everything was reinstated.  When the machine was rebooted after the installation failure, two other error messages "Firmeare Bug: the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources (MSR 38d is 330)" and "Can't read CTR while initializing i8042" shown.

Just wondering has anyone come across this situation and hoping someone can give me an idea to fix.  Thanks a lot.

Failed RAID 10

Hi all,

I think I know the answer to this I just want to double check though.

Have an ML350P with a 4 drives in a raid 10 array, drive one has failed and has been shipped from hp already.

I just wanted to make sure I was fully aware of the process of replacing it safely.

All I need to do with the server turned on is take out the dead one, wait 5 seconds and then replace with the new one, the server will then automatically start a rebuild ?

Thanks v much.

No Microcode update to fix TSX bug in ProLiant ML310 Gen8 v2 with Intel Xeon E3 1220 v3 Haswell CPU

$

Dear HP

I noticed that there is no ROM update which contains updated microcode for HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2 with Intel Xeon processors based on Haswell architecture. The known fact is that these processors are suffering from bug in TSX instruction set, which can be triggered by some transactional database systems (more info HERE). This is especially critical in production server environment.

To my surprise, HP released ROM update for HP Z Workstations (version 1.42A from 2014-12-05 HERE) and the microcode version has risen from 0x1A to 0x1C with TSX disabled (Hardware Lock Elision and Restricted Transactional Memory became not supported).

I have no doubt that such update must be released for above servers(and maybe others).

There is much more probability that this bug will be triggered in server than in workstation environment. I am really surprised that this patch was not released to this day, despite the fact that the severity of this bug could be much more harmful in server environment.

And by the way: why HP Z Workstations have so much more new releases of ROM (even Z400 has recived an update recently HERE) in contrast to HP ProLiant ML310, where the latest ROM is from March 2014? This is really strange for me. Even the HP DL320 Gen8 v2 (which is basically ML310 put in RACK case) has newer ROM (and it Addressed an issue where a system under heavy stress could experience an uncorrectable machine check).

Please take this case seriously, this is realy important thing. We and our customers relay on your products since year 2000. Thank you!

Hi,

We are trying to install a 10Gbit HBA (652503-B21) into an HPE DL580G7 server with the RedHat lInux 6.3 OS.

The OS does not detect the card.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be great. We have looked at the firmware, and it appears to be up to date.

RAID Degraded

$

Hi I have a ML115 G5 server. I am using the onboard NVIDIA RAID controller with 2 identical hard drives. I set up a RAID1 volume and shut down the server, when I powered it up the volume shows as degraded, but the volume is still accessible (i.e. the Server 2008 OS can still boot from the volume).

I know both of the hard drives are working correctly as I have run a surface test with the software MHDD.

Is there any way to use the RAID without it degrading so quickly?

Thanks
