Hi. I have some problem with installing 2012 R2 to Proliant DL360p Gen8 server (HP SPP 2016.04 firmware level).

Try these two ways:

1. Use HP Intelligent Provisioning. Attach flash drive with file en_windows_server_2012_r2_vl_with_update_x64_6052766.iso. Install end with error (about 99%) - "The wim.xml file was not generated correctly. This may have resulted from a failed copy of install.wim. of install.wim"

2. Use this file for startup, copy to flash drive driver "Smart Array P420i Controller" - hpcissx2.inf, attach it via Virtual Media after Rescan install give message "No new devices drivers were found..."

Please help.

With my HP NC365T 4 ports network cards (any 3), one panel tells me Speed: 1.0 Gbps while the other suggests 1.00 Gbps is not available.  Which is it ?  I run diagnostics, it reports cable error when I have cat6 for all ports.

Hard Drive problems

Hi all,

I have a Proliant DL360 G5 server. It has 2 hard drives in Raid 1. Couple of days ago I powered it off to blow the dust out. When I turned it back on, the P400i controller wouldn't find the second hard drive any more. The hard drive has an amber light. Tried re-seating it again a few times, no change. Put in new hard drive, still no go. Took the server's cover off and re-seated the cable that connected the drive-bay to the controller. Still nothing.

I booted from HP's Advanced Configuratin Utility and it also reports that the second drive is not seen (the old or the new replacement one).

Here is what I'm thinking to do, althoug it may sound a bit crazy:

Pull out all hard drives and put in 2 new blank ones. Then power on the server and delete the configured logical drive and create a new one. Hopefully when I delete the old and create the new, both hard drives will be seen. Once it's all done and is all good, power off the server, put back in the old hard drives and cross fingers and they will go.

Or any other suggestion?

DL380 Gen8 P420i controller adding Hot spare to work at predictive faillures

$

Hello All,

I´ve one DL380 Gen8 with 6 disks 300 GB 15K using RAID 6 with P420i controller, yesterday one of the disks starts warning predictive faillure, result X3 database slows down performance and users are claiming better performance.
My purpose was shutdowm all VM´s, replacing hd in predictive failure, and adding a hot spare configured to be activated at predictive failure, when I arrived to datacenter my colleague changes the drive 3 in predictive failure with a new one, and other disk at slot 7 for future Hot Spare disk, so my first screen was Intelligent Provisioning Screen at Maintenance option and HP array maintenance.
As my colleague change the failed disk with a new one, I´ve rebuild RAID working, and my problem is to put the new HD as hot spare of this array, as I  cannot find the hot spare option even selecting unassigned drive to try config for hot spare, only option build a new array, even after other reboot with F8 to enter at controller options.

Thinking better a raid at rebuild does not admit to remove or add new disks, think this is correct;.

My Question : With Raid 6 rebuilding, I can not add a Global Hot Spare and configure it to act in Predictive Failure.

Only tomorrow I will try other boot and enter with F10 at Intelligent Provisioning to see if I found Hot Spare option to activate to this new unassigned disk, Any advanced help will be welcome

Thanks for All

PCI Express video card for ML 350 G6

Hi,

I recently bought a second hand ML 350 G6 server tower for home use. I am going to use is to both run code, as well as watch netflix and such. There are two Xeon 5570 quad cores on this machine with 48GB of RAM.

I am planning to install a graphics card on it, preferably in the 8x PCI-E slot. Does anybody know whether there are any available cards that would be perfect for this?

Please note: I want to keep the 16x slot free for a future GPU (similar to Nvidia Tesla) that I will install at a later date.

I would greatly appreciate input on this.

Thanks

Anand

Hello, i have a simlpe question that needs an answer. Our Server at the moment has a memory configuration which

as i just read about, is totally wrong concerning the optimum performance of the machine.

As I read in the online manual of this particular server, it gives 3 different configurations of memory dimms

one with 4Gb of memory, one with 52Gb and another one with 64Gb of memory.

Me question is instead of using 4X1Gb on the first memory module and 12 X 4Gb dimms on the other three memory modules which gives 52 of total memory, can i use 4X1 on the first module and 12X2Gb on the other three which will give a total of 28Gb memory?

Or please advice on any other memory configuration with maximum total memory of 48Gb.

Im asking you that because we want to do an upgrade to the memory of the server but it seems that those

memory dimms are too expensive.

Thank you.

Installing Grid K1 card into Dl380p Gen8 Questions (picture included)

We are installing the Grid K1 card into our DL380p Gen8 server. We purchased the Riser cage for it, but we wanted to know answers to the following questions:
1. Do we need the 1200W Power supply listed in the requirements? about to buy them so figured it couldn't hurt
2. Do we need a cable to plug into the aux power on the K1 card? If so, what cable and where do we plug it in?

hp proliant ml350 g4 wont boot (intermittent)

The issue im having happens intermittently which is really strange. When I try turn it on it doesn't boot. The fan on the power supply runs continuously regardless of whether the computer is turned on or not. When i attempt to turn the server on there is a brief moment of power then the system health led goes red and nothing else happens except the power supply fan continues to run. There are no lights on on the mother board other than the green one to tell me the power is connected.

I have tried to reseat all components and ensured everything is connected correctly. I disconnected every component leaving only what was needed to attempt to boot to bios with no change.

I removed the battery from the mother board and also tried resetting the cmos/nvram multiple times and nothing seems to be working.

The wierd part is that occasionally the system will boot up normally but after about 10-15 mins it dies and the systems health led comes on again. For example i was trying to get it to work last night with no success but when i came to try this morning it booted up first time for about 10-15mins before it died again and iv not been able to get it to boot again all day.

Please help.

Hi

Sorry i'm a bit of a newb when it comes to these things, but i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

We had a server installed which has 6 SSDs,

5 are assigned to the Smart Array P440ar Controller.

1 is assigned to the Dynamic Smart Array B140i controller.

I want all 6 to be managed by the P440ar controller so i can use them all in 1 RAID array. How do i achieve this?

Thanks

NC522SFP Dual Port 10GbE Server Adapter keeps going down

I have 4 ProLiant DL380 G6 servers with Windows 2012 R2 installed and all updates.  I have a NC522SFP Dual Port 10GbE Server Adapter installed in each server with driver version 5.3.10.1101 (the latest I could find).  The are connected to an HP 6600ml-24XG (J9265A) switch with J9285B-AO 7M 10GBASE-CU SFP+ TWINAX F/HP PASSIVE DAC Cables.

I keep getting QLNDNIC Link is down in the System Event on the servers.  It happens anywhere from 1 to 3 times per hour, but not every hour.  The times on the servers do not match each other.  The switch logs show lots of CRC/Alighnemt erros and Link flapping.

Any ideas?

Thanks so very much for any help!!!

HP D6020 Dual I/O Module disk enclosure with redundancy.

Hi All,

A bit info on my setup:

I have with me a HP Proliant DL380 G9 running on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard with 2 x P441 Storage controller and a unit of HP D6020 disk enclosure with dual I/O modules installed.

I have connected one of the SAS port from one of the P441 to SAS port on the primary I/O module of drawer 1 on the D6020. And another connection from SAS port of the second P441 to SAS port on the secondary I/O module on drawer 1 of the D6020.

My issue / questions:

I am managing the D6020 using HP SSA. I can create new disk arrays using the first P441 using HP SSA, but when i click on the 2nd P441, i don't see the disk arrays that i have created earlier using the first P441. I need to do a reboot and then only both P441 can see the arrays that i have created in HP SSA. Is this normal or is there something i am missing from my setup?
