Unable to Find Sata Disk while installing Rhel7 in HP DL380 Gen Server

Hi,

I have HP Dl380 Gen9 Server with HP Smart Array p440ar integradted HBA/Raid Controller. I don't want Raid so I have enabled HBA mode. After enabling HBA mode and I have start installtion with standard method of Rhel7 i am unable to see any available HDD in HBA mode. Also I have tried to installed Rhel7 in HP Intelligent Provisining tool but still same issue. I've disabled UEFI mode and enable Legacy BIOS. I 've updated BIOS and iLO as well.

I can see HDD in Win2k12 and SLES 12SP1 in HBA mode but not able to see any HDD in Rhel7.

Please let me know what should I do.

Que tal buen dia, 

Pido de su apoyo ya que no logra iniciar el servidor, el mensaje que me indica es

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F Existing Broadcom PXE ROM

Por lo que he indagado sobre este problema es que no encuentra un dispositivo de arranque, el orden que tengo de booteo es 1) CD ROM 2)HARD DISCK 3)NIC

Fisicamente detecte que uno de los discos que estan en RAID 5 estaba en color ambar.

Que necesito hacer para solucionar esta problematica

RAID 0 - NVMe Enterprise SSD in ProLiant Gen9

Upon first setup and install of our new server, the HPE storage management utility, did not recognize my 2 new disks, which i would like to setup in RAID 0 or 1.

Using this ProLiant Gen 9 server and 2 x Intel P3700 NVMe PCI-e SSD drives, i currently have Windows Server 2012 R2 running perfectly with the disks mirrored in windows booting perfectly from this setup.

But i'd rarther have the disks RAID 0'ed via your EFI tool. Problem is that the devices are concived as #Other Device# in the HPE-SMU, not letting me set up RAID. I'd try Intel RST Rom Option, but it seems to not be selectable from the UEFI menu.

Is there any way of forcing the SMU to recognize the disks, even though they are not HPE branded?

Alternately, is it even possible to run an other EFI rom on the HPE ProLiant Servers?

Any help is apreciated.

Installation W.S2012 on Proliant DL180 G6

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to install and configure an old Proliant 180G6 that my IT department gave to me, there are 8 new hard drives and no OS installed. I need to configure RAID + Windows Server 2012.
There are 8 x 2TB drives.

I'm more it an IT networking guy, so I'm asking a little help here :

The drives need to be in GPT ? or Legacy BIOS? how to choose this ?
What would be the best RAID if I want to have 1 drive faillure and a lot of storage ? How and when to configure the RAID ? prior installation of Windows ?

Hi All,

I'm confused with configuring the new LUNs for my backup server purpose, so can anyone here pelase share some explanation as to when to use RAID 6 (ADG) vs. RAID 60 or RAID50 ?

DL580G8 and G7 Get-HPiLOMemoryInfo incomplete info

I'm running a sweep to check memory configuration on servers I manage and I found a weird problem where in case of these two models the commandlet Get-HPiLOMemoryInfo doesn't return Memory_Details and Memory_Details_Sumary properties although the others are available. Is this by design? How else can I get this information off the iLO?

Newbie! trying to get my DL 380 G6 to recognize my 24 port Raid controller

Good day!

I am a hobbyist trying to make some hardware I have work,  not sure what I am doing wrong at this point.

I have a “HP Proliant DL380 G6”  configured for Windows 2k8 R2

It has 1TB in storage on 6 2.5 SAS drives. (internal) 

I recently purchased the following 2 items.

 1 – “HP 24 Port PCI-E 3Gb SAS Standard Profile Expander Raid Card 487738-001 + 4XCord”   (AKA  468406-B21  ??)

      Ebay Auction 161696131154  

 

2 – “4U Supermicro Superchassis SC846E1-R900B 24 Bay SAS SATA Chassis JBOD Server”

      Ebay Auction 131931786169

 

  • I have installed the card, into the server, and to my knowledge, Windows 2008 is not detecting it.
  • I am not sure I have even installed it correctly.
  • I have 3 cables connected from the Card to the JBOD  
  • 1 SATA 3 TB inside the JBOD case. 

Basically, my end game would be to have the  Proliant Server connected to the JBOD case and be able to have 24  2-3TB hard drives each.

 

If I had to buy a new controller card, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

 

 

Can anyone help me?

Intel S3700 SSD drives in Proliant Dl380 Gen 9

I was watching an Openstack presentation where they had in a DL380G9 22 SAS disks (I guess in the front bays) and 4 Intel SSD S3700 drives.

My questions are:

1- can non-hpe ssd disks be attached to the DL380G9? with what disk caddie?

2- This is a youtube video so, where were the 4 ssd attached? stacked one on top of each other and then plugged into where?

Hi,
I am looking to pair my HPE ProLiant DL60 Gen9 Server with a UPS that will stay connected constantly and will shut the server down gracefully if the battery charge reaches depletion. My current EATON UPS frequently loses communications with the server, which is a big issue.

Upgrade DL380p G8 from SFF to LFF

Hi,

I have DL380p G8 Server with 8 SFF bays and a DvD drive in a seperate 8 bay enclosure.

 I would like to drop 8 x 3.5 SAS drives i have available into the machine. To do this i believe i need to upgrade the device enclosure from SFF to LFF for this enclosure. I believe i need to remove the entire front panel assembly and replace it with a LFF version. 

I have read posts of people doing this on G7 and G6 machines but i have not found confirmation this is possible for G8.

Can someone knowledgeable advise if these are the parts i need?

Is this as simple as pull out and swap over of parts and connect cables or do we need a specialist?

Any other parts needed?

Does the bios needs to be changed or updated after this change?

The device is out of warranty so we are not concerned about whether this is covered or not.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

P440ar & battery: TRIM not supported w/RAID? Battery-backed write cache in HBA mode?

Hi,

We recently bought two DL380 Gen9's (768345-425) which include the HP Smart Array P440ar Controller and HP Smart Storage Battery. Yesterday I was adding SSD's to the machines and noticed in Linux that the controller does not support TRIM (in HW RAID mode, I'm using RAID1).

Three questions:
1) Am I correct that in RAID mode this controller does not support TRIM/DISCARD?

2) If I instead use HBA mode instead of RAID (I will then use software raid, Linux MD) can I use TRIM?

3) In HBA mode, does the battery-backed 2Gb write cache work? Or is this part completely bypassed in HBA mode?

iLO web interface missing information

Hello, i'll try to explain the issue as best i can. I had configured iLO on 2 DL360p Gen8 servers about a month or two ago. They are running ESXi 6.0u2. Today, one of the server fans was screaming, so I went to log in to see what was going on. One of the servers, I couldn't log in using the username and password I configured. I used the HPONCFG tool to create the user account again. I was able to log in, and found that the Fans, Temperature Sensors, and Power Supplies are "not installed." On the information overview page, the Product name is "Null" and serveral other fields show as "Unknown." Of course the iLO web interface for the other server is working just fine.

Anyone have any insight? I already reset the iLO, but I cannot restart the server until Sunday.

Hello ppl,

it sounds like a joke, but one of my workers missunderstood my order and pulled 6x 146GB SAS drives out of a powered off server, since i was stupid enough to think that this never gonna happen, we dont know the original positions of the harddrive, i already openend the Array Configuration Utility, did the diagnostics, but iam to stupid to find where the original drive order is ? I need your Help guys it is a RAID 50 System.

Second Question, if the array controller would be reconfigured, the DATABASE on that Harddrives will be lost? :O

I have a prolem in using Remote Control on iLO homepage.

Proliant DL380e GEN8.

I can not run Remote Control. When i click on .NET, it displays "Application cannot be start. Contact the application vendor"

Pls help me resolve this problem.

How to easily choose the boot like simple computer ?

I try since two day to choose a ssd disk on odd sata for boot.

Omv is intalled on. But i can only boot on with F9 after a bios error while server trying to find system.

I don't unterstand what the "Advanced Options>Advanced System ROM Options>Virtual Install Disk:Enable" is made for.

I don't know why the raid system set the number 5 to this disk while it's on odd sata and not in baie.

Sorry for my bad english.
