ML330 G6 Hot Swap

We currently have a ML330 G6 with a 410 controller which is fitted with 4 x 250gb Sata drives configured as two Raid 1 250gb drives.

We're out of space so need to upgrade - am i ok to replace 1 drive from each raid set, i.e 1tb wait until rebuilt, and then replace the second from each set so we end up with two available drives with 1tb each ?

Thanks

DL360e G8 With TPM - No Drives on B320i show up during CentOS installation

Greetings,

I just purchased a used DL360e G8 for firmware testing before I inflict it on my customer's Gen8 and Gen9 DL360s and DL380s.. I put in three SATA drives and powered up the Dl360e. I booted the 2016.04 Firmware DVD. I ran the standard set of diags and when no errors were detected, I booted the server and got into the Storage Array Configuration utility in the BIOS. I configured two drives as a RAID1 entiity and a third drive as a JBOD. Eveerythig looked good so I booted the CentOS 7 installation DVD and was surprised to find that the installer could not see any of the arrays that the Array Utility clearly configured. I tried rebooting into the array utility and turned the RAID1 array into two JBODs. Booting the CentOS installer saw no available drives.

Opening up the DL360e, I found that it had a TPM module installed. SO, I have two questions:

1) Would the TPM keep the drives from being visible?

2) If the TPM is keeping the drives from being seen by the CentOS installed, can I safelt remove it and have the DL360 behave as if it didn't have a TPM installed or will removing the TPM brick the DL360? ( The server did not include the key to gain access to the TPM.)

I don't need, want, nor desire a TPM in this system. I only need to be able to do installations and checkout Firmware DVDs,.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Cheers...

HP Proliant ML310e wont start properly and make continuous beeps

Hi!

My brother recently bought a ML310e for a steal that was described in the listing as working, but as you can tell, it isn't. As soon as you start up the Server it comes to the initialization screen, the fans goes to full throttle and then back down, the screen shows ''Early Processor Initializaton'' and a progress of 10%. Then the screen goes black and then it reappears, but now the progress is at 20% and it's come to the point of ''Memory and QPI link Initialization start''. That's when the server emits this loud constant beeping for 3-4 seconds until it quiets and the screen goes black again.

The screen then reappears to show the progress at 30% but it's still at Memory and QPI Link Initialization. Just after a couple of seconds the server will start to beep again, but this time the beeps are about 2 secs long and comes just after another. And the server will stay like this for an eternity.

Down in the right corner it shows STATUS CODE : 0186, is this of any help?
I would really appreciate any help i can get

/Samuel

Problem upgrading ilO2 firmware on Gen 6 servers

$

Hello --

I recently downloaded the CP027871 package onto a group of our DL380 Gen6 servers, and most were sucessfully upgrading to the 2.29 release. However, several of the servers were problematic.

When I ran the initial sh command, the following error message appeared on-screen:

ERROR: Make sure hp Lights-Out driver is installed and loaded. Also, execute the utility as 'root'. []

...

This operation requires following condition(s) be met:

1. iLO 2 Security Override Switch must be set.

After entering y to Continue, the following error message appeared on-screen:

Trying to reset V850E
Trying to reset V850E
Trying to reset V850E
Trying to reset V850E
Trying to reset V850E
V850E isn't in reset!

ERROR: iLO 2 security override switch isn't set. []

I checked on-line, and came across the following article which indicated that I would need to power down the server, open the case, and manually set the switch before proceeding:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=mmr_kc-0115522

My question is the following: Is this the only solution I have, or is there an interim upgrade that I can install before going to the 2.29 release without having to go through the steps listed in the article?

Thanks.

DL180 Gen9, P440 controller upgrade

Hi everyone!

I need to upgrade the actual controller of my server (DL180 Gen9 with a 8 LFF drive cage) from a H240 to a P440 FIO controller, but the mini-SAS cable conection is different. On the H240 were 2 ports mini-SAS, but on the P440 were only 1 port that is bigger than the mini-SAS.

I've done some research and I found that there is a Cable KIT for my server (P/N 725577-B21) that is compatible with my server and the P440 controller, but I don't actually know if this cable kit is enough to replace the actual mini-SAS cable to the controller.

Does anyone know if this cable kit (P/N 725577-B21) is what I need to finally put On-line the P440 controller?

Thanks for your help :D (...and sorry for the bad english)

HP Smart Array P420i RAID 5 HDD and Volume Expansion

Hello,
I have at one of my customers a HP Proliant ML310e Gen 8 with a HP Smart Array P420i  2gb Cache configured with RAID 5,   3 x 1TB Hard Drives.  this server has a 5 Drives bay.
Their systems database is growing in size at a really fast pace, and soon I'll have to replace the drives, My question is: What is the easiest path to replace the hard drive and how do I go about it and configuring?

I've read on some forums people saying just replace one drive at a time, let it resync, then once all the drives are replaced, then increase the volume size,.  is this something that can be done on the P420i?

Thank for the help and advice.

Bad performance from SQL Server 2014 on DL380 Gen9

$

This issue is something that I haven't had much luck trying to solve via on-line research, and was hoping to find a hit on some forums out there.

I have an HP DL380 server that has 3 physical CPUs, 4 cores each. 32 GB RAM. Four HP MM1000FBFVR drives set up in a RAID 5 configuration. There are 4 1 GB network cards in the back, I'm not sure of the model, but we are using only one, with the jumbo mtu set to 9000, the max.

The OS is Windows Server 2012 R2, and I have SQL Server 2014 Standard edition on it.

I have a set of jobs that I am running on my development machine, a Lenovo with 32 GB of RAM, 1GB network card, and a Blue Western Digital hard drive, 1TB. The OS is Windows 7 Pro.

The problem that I am trying to diagnose is that the same jobs are taking up to 4 times longer on the production machine than on my development box, and that just isn't making sense to me. The network connections are the same speed, and the disc I/O on the production machine is at most 1/2 and often 1/3 of my development box.

I am wondering if it is because it is a standard edition of SQL? I didn't do anything out of the ordinary when I installed it. Could it be the RAID 5? Should I set it up as RAID 10? Any help or tips would be appreciated.

HPE System Management Hardware Monitor - Won't send emal alert

Hello all!

I have an issue with HPE System Management v7.5.5.6.  I have it installed on two Proliant DL360p servers (both have Windows Server 2012r2 OS) to monitor the status of the hardware and need it to send out an alert if there is any change in the hardware status.  It seems to be monitoring the hardware, but it is not sending out alerts for any of my test traps.  Here is what I know so far:

1. SNMP is installed on both servers.

2. SNMP Trap Service is running.

3. HP Management Agent Event Notifier is configured to point to a valid Mail Server, has viable recipient addresses and is configured to alert on all events.

4. Did a Port Query on Port 25 to the Mail Server and it resolved okay.

5. Sent Test Indications of all three types (Informational, Warning and Error) and all three generated entries in the OS System Event Log but no log in Integrated Management Log and recieved no alert email.

6. Further tested by enabling and disabling a single NIC and it generated an entry in the OS System Event Log but but no log in Integrated Management Log and recieved no email alert.

Everything seems to be configured as it should be, but no alert emails.

Has anyone seen this before and if so, what actions remediated it?

Thanks.

Fibre Channel Card Needed for DL320e Gen8 V2

I just saw the SSD remaining life and that was NOT HP SmartSSD Wear Gauge reporting

Hi everyone,

I just saw the SSD remaining life somewhere (could have been iLO or HP Array Administrator) and that was NOT HP SmartSSD Wear Gauge reporting

It was a simple GUI tha tlisted all SSDs on the controller with little blue % bars to the right of each drive.

Where is that function? I can't remember and I've looked everywhere.

Again this IS NOT SmartSSD Wear Gauge reporting (that one is pretty useless imho)

Thank you

Where is the "Networking flexibility in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers with FlexibleLOM technology” paper?

$

Hi everyone! :-)

This is my first post here in the HPE Community forums (I must say that I find it to be quite confusing the forum navigation here).

The "Locating HP ProLiant and HP BladeSystem technical white papers - Networking flexibility in HP ProLiant servers with FlexibleLOM technology  document (available at http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03405579&lang=en-us&cc=us) mentions the following:

" The “Networking flexibility in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers with FlexibleLOM technology” technical white paper is located in the HP Enterprise Library at
http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=4AA4-6708ENW&doctype=white%20paper&doclang=EN_US&searchquery=&cc=us&lc=en "

HOWEVER, if I click on that link, I get to an "Oops!" web page (basically, a cute 404 Not Found page).

I tried to replace "hp.com" by "hpe.com" on that URL, but it also points to a non-existing web page.

Google also has the following URL for that document:

http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/4AA4-6708ENW.pdf?ver=2.0

... but that redirects to https://www.hpe.com/us/en/404.html which has the Heading "404: That Page Cannot Be Found". Replacing "hp.com" by "hpe.com" in the previous URL also points to a 404 Not Found web page.

The "Implementing SR-IOV on HPE ProLiant Servers with VMware vSphere 5.1 " - that is available at https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-3282ENW.pdf - mentions, in a "Note" located at the end of "Page 4", the following:

" For additional information on FlexibleLOM technology refer to the white paper, Networking flexibility in HPE
ProLiant servers with FlexibleLOM technology, available at hpe.com/V2/getpdf.aspx/4AA4-6708ENW.pdf "

That "hpe.com/V2/getpdf.aspx/4AA4-6708ENW.pdf" link text actually points to http://h20195.www2.hpe.com/V2/getpdf.aspx/4AA4-6708ENW.pdfCan you guess what happens when you click on that link? That's right! You are also redirected to the "404 Not Found" web page - https://www.hpe.com/us/en/404.html:-(

I have also tried, by "guesswork", the URL https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA4-6708ENW.pdf but that also returns the "404 Not Found" web page.

Does anyone know where has HP / HPE "hidden" the “Networking flexibility in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers with FlexibleLOM technology” (4AA4-6708ENW.pdf) technical white paper?!

Thanks in advance! :-)

Cheers,
