How do I find memory part number for my DL320e Gen8

Hello,

I'm using DL320e Gen8 server and would like to expand its memory now I have 8GB installed, how can I find what part number memory I have installed on my server without turning it off - server is in production so I can't turn it off.

Is there any software that will show me memory part number so then I could find suitable memory option to expand it?

I would use HP memory calculator to find new memory for server:

ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2 - More than 16TB?

I have now 1x1TB HDD and 3x3TB HDD at my ML310e Gen8 v2.  (All HDD is non Hot Plug)

Do that server now support storage than 4x4TB if have all drivers updated? For axemple 1X1TB HDD and 3x8TB HDD? I think use Raid5 to these three HDDs.

I can't read that in user guide from januar 2016 (http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5379531&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03791990).

In User Guide (perhaps from 2014) it say maximum storage is 4x4TB. https://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03480938&sp4ts.oid=5177949

HPE ProLiant m710x Server Cartridge does not like Linux Kernel 4.7

We install “CentOS Linux 7 (Core) OS” with  “Linux 3.10.0-514.6.1.el7.x86_64” kernel, then install Intel SDK for OpenCL version 6 patch 3. At this point if you want to access general purpose GPU over OpenCL, you need to upgrade kernel to 4.7 with Intel patch.

This works on systems from other vendors, which also utilizes E3-1585L CPU+GPU . HPE moonshot blades refuse to boot after this unlike other systems.

I attached to screen shot. I wonder if anyone else run into a similar issue.

ML350P Gen8 and H220 Controllers

Hello,

I have been struggling with the storage configuration on this server for over a month.  I am trying to use the H220 SAS controller.  I have two LFF hot plug drive cages with HP Gen8 drives.  If I connect the onboard P420i to either of the boxes all is well.  Once I place the H220 controller(s) in the server it starts a constant beep at Power and Thermal Calibration.  I ordered New H220's and have also tried to use LSI 9207-8i controllers with the same results.  Has anyone had similar issues with this? I see posts about people using non HP PCIe cards, yet I have issues with HP cards.

Thanks in advance!

HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 - Memory Issue

$

Hi there,

We have a HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 server, with 2 x Xeon E5-2620 v4 Processors.

We are installing 16 x 16GB modules of memory (Part: 809082-091), the initial configuration we have tried for this was;

P1 Channels -

  • C1 - 16GB
  • G2 - 16GB
  • K3 - Unpopulated
  • D4 - 16GB
  • H5 - 16GB
  • L6 - Unpopulated
  • J7 - Unpopulated
  • F8 - 16GB
  • B9 - 16GB
  • I10 - Unpopulated
  • E11 - 16GB
  • A12 - 16GB

P2 Channels -

  • C1 - 16GB
  • G2 - 16GB
  • K3 - Unpopulated
  • D4 - 16GB
  • H5 - 16GB
  • L6 - Unpopulated
  • J7 - Unpopulated
  • F8 - 16GB
  • B9 - 16GB
  • I10 - Unpopulated
  • E11 - 16GB
  • A12 - 16GB

However this gave us Error 207 for Processor 2 Dimm 1 & Dimm 2. We thought maybe it was the RAM at fault, so changed 2 modules of ram from the Processor 1 bank with the 2 modules from Processor 2 dimm 1 and 2 slots, however we still had the same error. We have been through and re-seated all the modules of RAM and can confirm they are all locked in place correctly.

By changing the configuration of the RAM for the P2 channels from the above configuration, to the below configuration, the system is seeing all 16 sticks of ram OK;

  • C1 - Unpopulated
  • G2 - Unpopulated
  • K3 - Unpopulated
  • D4 - 16GB
  • H5 - 16GB
  • L6 - 16GB
  • J7 - 16GB
  • F8 - 16GB
  • B9 - 16GB
  • I10 - Unpopulated
  • E11 - 16GB
  • A12 - 16GB

We followed the guidelines for Advanced ECC memory mode, by filling the white and black dimm slots of each channel first, which worked OK for the Processor 1 slots, however doesn't seem to want to work for Processor 2 dimm slots.

Any idea's? We think it could possibly be an issue with the motherboard?

Many thanks in advance

Brand new ML350g9 Server 2012R2 PCI Bus errors on soft reboot

$

Received 2x ML350G9 servers last week.  Took 1, installed Volume License of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. 32 gigs of RAM, single Xeon, onboard RAID controller, 4x 600 gig 10k SAS drives setup single RAID 1+0

Intelligent Provisioning setup.  Windows install went fine, carved out a 250 gig partition for the C drive.  Next reboot, installed the HP SPP dated around Sept 2016.  Reboots. Ran a few rounds of Microsoft updates.  Reboots.  Run another round of Microsoft updates to find 1 or 2 stragglers.  Prep for delivering to client..install our N-Able agent and bitdefender antivirus.  A few reboots..all is well.  I go to reboot another time...and it hangs hard on shutdown.  Windows screen shows "rebooting" circle..but froze.  Hard reboot...she comes up.  I go check management logs and I see the following:    I can replicate this on soft reboots...sometimes it reboots OK, other times it hard locks on a reboot..and the following will be in iLO management logs.  Get on the horn with HPE support..they send out a tech the next day to replace the motherboard.  In the meanwhile, I take the 4x hard drives, and the 32 gigs of RAM, and move them over to the second server that got delivered that day (for another client, but I'm on a tight schedule).  I deliver that server to the clients network...I join it to the domain, do a few things to prep for a migration over 3-4 days, some reboots..no problems.  And then on a reboot, it hangs again.  Same problem.  Same errors in logs.  I take it back to my office...I have HPE send a tech AGAIN to replace that system board.  He replaces it.  I reboot a few times..BOOM...same lockup on a soft reboot, same errors.  So I nuke 'n pave..fresh clean install. About 2 reboots after the HP SPP cd install of HP software and drivers...reboot..same thing AGAIN!  So get on the phone with HPE..sending tech out again (3rd time)...this time he says he will replace the RAID controller, since that is device bus 0 device 0.   Since I had this problem on 2x different yet identical HP servers...I doubt 2x RAID controllers were bad.  And that original server ...is running Server 2016 standard just fine for over a week now.

What are the chances it's memory?  What are the chances it's one of the hard drives?  (all brand new HP direct parts).  What are the chances that HP SPP driver CD from Sept 2016 has some driver bug for Server 2012 R2 volume license image?  Client getting very upset...schedule for migrating their club systems software is getting tight now.

iLo 2 reset pw

I've got an interesting question.

I've got 3 DL 380 G6s that have IPs bound to iLO (in some way)

When I browse to the IP in the servers browser, I get an iLO 2 login - great.

However, I dont have the password or login creds/

I've seen how you can reset it with the hpconfg - problem is - that folder doesnt exist on the servers.

We've acquired these with running guests so.... how can I reset this?

Server was hit with Wallet Dharma Ransomware so trying to format the server and reload Server 2012 R2.  The server is an HP Microserver with two 2TB drives.  It was previously running smoothly, prior to the virus.  I've tried to reconfigure the RAID and even remove RAID.  I removed the two 2TB drives and replaced with a single 3TB with no luck.  I've tried to locate/load a driver for the WD Green 2TB and 3TB drives without any real success.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

HP ILO4 Remote console not connecting

$

Hello folks

Runnig ILO4 2.50 at the moment. I've noticed that I can't start a .Net remote console session from my remote location - the ILO console starts and after 15 seconds it closes by itself.

I suspected it could be a firewall issue - it was working up until a month of so ago but just in case I had the DC recheck rules - I can connect over HTTPS and SSH from my IP but not the remote console.

I tested from a dev machine within the same network (no firewall between then) and it worked fine. To test I created a rule blocking outgoing port 23 connections from this dev machine and the remote console starts and closes instantly - different than the timeout behaviour I am seeing on my remote access.

TL;DR ILO4 2.50, firewall ports 80, 443, 22 and 23 open for specific IP, Web and SSH work fine but no remote console.

Anyone seen anything like this on 2.50 and the immediate previous version?

Thanks for your comments.

Monitoring redundant HP R1500 G4 UPSs

Good morning,

We have a VMware cluster of dual-power-supply hosts (HP DL360s).   Each host is connected to two different UPSs (HP R1500 G4.)

We want to configure Power Manager so that a loss of utility power to one UPS does not cause a shutdown event, but the loss of utility power to both UPSs does.

I submitted this question to HPE support, but their only answer is to repeatedly send me a link to the UPS Management Module Installation and Configuration Guidelines for VMware, which only has examples of hosts with one UPS each.

Can someone point me in the right directon on this?

HP CN1100e converged network adapter change its personality from FCoE to ISCSI after each reboot

$

Hi,

We've followed the procedure described on the HPE manual for activating the FCoE on the HP CN1100e dual port converged network adapter:

1) Change the adapter personality on the UEFI System Setting;

2) Install the HPE Storage Fibre Channel Over Ethernet Adapter Kit for the x64 Emulex Storport Driver;

3) reboot the OS (Windows Server 2012 R2).

After the reboot, the adapter personality is changed back to ISCSI knowing that before installing the driver I could see the adapter personality as FCoE. Even when I don't install the driver and I reboot, the same thing happens and the adapter loses its FCoE personality. The server is an HPE Proliant DL380 G9
