Firmeware Update "Smart Array P440ar Controller" on ESXi 6.5 not attempted

Hello,

we have a vSAN Cluster with two ProLiant DL360 Gen9 working with  VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 5310538.

Now, the vSphere Management says, that the Current Smart Array P440ar Controller Firmware 4.02-0 is not VMware certified. Recommended Firmware is 4.52.0.

OK -> no problem. I want to upgrade the firmware with Version 5.04

* RECOMMENDED * Online ROM Flash Component for VMware ESXi - Smart Array H240ar, H240nr, H240, H241, H244br, P240nr, P244br, P246br, P440ar, P440, P441, P542D, P741m, P840, P840ar, and P841

But the Installer says:

[root@esx3:/vmfs/volumes/vsan:...] ./CP032042.vmexe

HPE strongly recommends that this firmware update be performed in an offline environment. If this firmware update is performed online, ensure a graceful shutdown or restart is performed in order to flush all data from the controller cache before the new firmware is activated. Abruptly rebooting the system while there is data in cache might result in data loss.

HPE MIB - OED to use for System health (ProLiant)

Hello,

Is there particular cpqhlth MIB OID that corresponds to "System Health" status reported bu iLO? By description it looks like this might be

cpqHeMibCondition (This object represents the overall status of the server health system represented by this MIB)

But in tests values are not always the same. Which OID should we use to monitor overall ProLiant health via SNMP?

Best regards

HPE ML310e Gen8 v2 Server

Hi,

I have 3 HP HPE ML310e Gen8 v2 Servers for which I don't have the front bezel keys. I want to know how can I open the front bezel lock without keys? Would the key work if I order a new front bezel and use the keys that come along with it to unlock the front bezels of the 3 servers I have? Are the keys unique?

Please share your experiences. My requirement is to somehow unlock the front bezels.

Thanks.

HP ProLiant DL180 G6, got stuck in the booting up screen, cannot get access to BIOS

Today, I wanted to check the hard drives status in the BIOS on a HP ProLiant DL180 G6 server.
This post might be frustratingly long, so as my day.... (Please bear my spelling and grammatical mistakes... I am totally exhausted after this task, but still want to know the reason behind it...)

When I connect a monitor to the VDI port of the server, there's no signal. I need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and wait for around 30-60 seconds to have something to show up. (see the attachment below).

After this screen, the monitor becomes no signal again. Normally, the server will give you choices to press either F9 or F10 to go to different screens. But this server somehow doesn't.

So, I thought maybe the F9 and F10 flash away so quickly that I can even see it. Therefore I pressed  Ctrl+Alt+Del again and waited for another 30-60 seconds to reboot it, then I repeatedly pressed F9 crazily fast. Yet, nothing happened. No signal right after the same screen.

Then I tried F10, failed;

then tried Enter, failed.

In the following 30 minutes, I tried almost everything from F1 to F12; none of them work.

Then, I thought maybe unpluging the power cord will do. In another 30 minutes, I tried uplugging and replugging the power and repeat the same process mentioned above, hitting all possible keystrokes. Still, no luck.

Up to this point, my boss is so pissed. it takes too long for me to do a simple task.

But I really have no idea what's going on here, the server doesn't behave normally as what I would expect. I spent another 1 hour to change keyboards, moniors, VDI cables and search for solution on the web. Yet, the problem still presist.

Could anyone please help me out? The same screen appears over and over again over the past 2 hours....

ML310e Gen8 v2 and Microserver Gen8 - How to Change Splash Screen

$

Hi People,

I would like to change the splash screen at the mentioned servers.
I ask the question probably better here, since the support in Bulgaria was absolutely not willing to help me. Maybe they have not even understood the problem ...
Both Servers have the latest BIOS and the NVRAM was cleared with the Switch '6' from the System Maintenance DIP-Switch.
For a different Gen 8 server is this described here:
http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=mmr_kc-0107107
Unfortunately this does not work on my servers, regardless of whether the BIOS serial console port option is set to auto or disabled.
Power on logo enabled or disabled make no difference.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks
Andy

Hi,

I'd like to know if HP have withdrawn RAID 1 support on Legacy mode?

I'm helping a customer using DL380 Gen 9 with P440ar Controller, and I was told by the customer who's engage with your TAC, that RAID is only supported on UEFI mode. They are trying to install a customized Ubuntu OS which requires Legacy mode with RAID 1.

Can I please get some clarification here? Thank you in advance.

Note: I've seen this post that is somehow related.

Boot USB - Help

$

Is there a tool I can download that I can make a boot usb that will see the raid? I need to run repaires on the windows 2012R2. The server is a DL320E

Back Story

We had an issue with a windows update on our server that stop a program from running. They decided to uninstall the windows update from our server and it failed to uninstall. Shortly after it failed they rebooted the server and it would not boot back up. It just cycles and then goes to advance recover options. When I look at diskpart the only drive I can see are the USB drive if it is plug in. I created a 2012R2 install usb, No extra drivers, but it cant see the raid volume. I think it need to have the raid drivers so that it can see the volume to I can try to run SFC on it.

Any extra help would be awesome.

Identifying Drives in the LFF 2 Bay on a DL370g6

Recently received a production server which is in use.  It's a Proliant DL370 G6 with 2 SSF 6 bay cages fully populated and a third LFF 2 bay cage fully populated.  All drives are 600GB SAS 15K for a total of 14 drives.  The server is running Win2008r2 Ent.  It appears that who ever configured it with all indications used the (2) SSF 6 bay cages to have a C:\ Vol Mirrored Disk0 and the balance of the drives as Raid5 Disk1 E:\. Looking at windows explorer and disk management which exactly shows what I just describe.  Here my question:  There still remain the LFF 2 bay cage which has 2 "running" hard drives in it and the "drive light are not on or blinking" and these drives do not show up under disk management nor windows explorer.  Though there in the LFF 2 bay cage running away and I'm not sure what and why they are there and there purpose.  I did pull a drive and the system reacted like I pulled one of the raid 5 hot swap drives.  So I immediately reinserted without any bad effects.  Can anyone shed some light as to their possible purpose?  The folks who had it previously are unable to contact the consultant who set it up for them, so you might say I'm in the dark on further information about this type of config.  I'm not a seasoned HP Comqac Server guy, Dell's are my forte.  I would have put a picture of the server but i wasn't cleared to make an attachment.

Let me know

Thanks...Scott2112

How best to migrate 'old' drives in RAID-10 to hotspares?

$

Never had to do this and unsure of the 410i behavior so I'm asking.  Client had 2 drives in a 4 drive RAID-10 fail.  The failed drives were in different sets and one hotspare is present.  I've replaced the 2 failed drives with new drives and the array has completed rebuilding.

What I would like to do is pull the remaining 2 old drives and replace them with 2 more new drives that I have waiting and use the old drives as additional hotspares.

My question is, "If I re-insert the 2 fully functional 'old drives', that technically would make up a valid array, will this cause problems with the now rebuilt RAID-10 array that is made up of all 'new drives'?"

Hello,

I have a DL360 G6 with centos 6.8. I installed a HP NC523SFP 10Go but after a few minutes it down!

In log message i have :

My NIC version is :

Hi All,

I have a question that how often should i shutdown DL380 G7 and G9 Servers, if we do not shut down our server for months, will it slow down the performance or can cause any H/W failure.

Please advise what are the recommendations.

Thanks,

Agha

Get Smart array / BIOS firmware versions from iLO4

Case 1 :

I'm trying to get Smart Array firmware version from iLO cli. Tried the below command and it returns swid 1-12 which doesn't have Smart Array firmare. Most of the cases i'm able to get this value from system1/swid13

show -all system1/swid*

More details about the server

More info :

ProLiant DL360 Gen9

/system1/firmware1

version=P89

date=05/06/2015

/map1/firmware1

version=2.20

    date=May 20 2015

Case 2:

In this case the same command returned only 1 firmware which is swid1 (iLO)

More details :

ProLiant DL360 Gen9

/system1/firmware1

    version=P89

    date=09/13/2016

/map1/firmware1

    version=2.50

    date=Sep 23 2016

    name=iLO 4

I would like to know why these behaviours are different? Is there any better way to get these values from iLO cli?

DL360 G6

Hi all, new to HP servers so go easy.  I have an older dl360 G6 that is being used as a host in a home lab.  It has 4x148GB drives and I'm using the integrated p410i controller.  I receive a message saying one of the disk's firmware is out of date, so I booted up the Full SPP (2016.10.0).  It finds one update for the raid controller, but none for the drives, and eventually fails the raid upgrade.  I don't have the error log in front of me but I'll get it later.

Is this the right approach to updating the drive firmware?  The host is running ESXi 6.5

R1500 XR Firmware Upgrade

HPe migration seems to have fouled up details and links...

Searching by serial# YBTCJTJ22P, HPE lists our R1500 XR UPS as "HPE On Line On Demand Three Phase Uninterruptible Power System," and has difficulty locating correct firmware for R1500XR Low Voltage (USA). Site keeps linking to R1500 G2 and R3000XR

I cannot believe it would use the same exact FW as R3000XR [up to 2.02] or G2 series, especially since I found forum posts indicating somebody using FW 3.04 on R1500XR, and found several references to even newer FW.

Searching by model only, http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=266731&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=54 shows 5 different FW upgrades, none of which are specifically for R1500XR.

SOFTPAQ SP29019 info on FW 3.08 ftp://15.240.25.55/pub/softpaq/sp29001-29500/SP29019.txt

I cannot locate the actual SP for FW 3.08 anywhere, does it exist? Does it even WORK?
